Is this OK for DS's wedding?

It's a city registry office wedding for close family and friends in summer followed by a party for the wide extended family and friends in the evening. Emphasis is on casual and relaxed. I'm 57, five foot 1, size 12 on top, 14 on the bottom, blond hair and hazel eyes. I really like this, with possibly navy heels (not too high) and maybe a fuchsia bag - not hat/fascinator, might do a nice hair clip and low messy bun. What do you think? Also open to suggestions 😊 (but must take account of my lack of inches and nothing above the knee or light blue colour) https://www.hobbs.com/product/petite-tess-shirt-dress/0126-5997-1185L04-MIDNIGHT-NAVY.html

I think it's beautiful, really classy

HollyGolightly4 · 08/02/2026 18:21

I think it's lovely! Especially like the idea of colour in there through bag- maybe shoes as well?

RaininSummer · 08/02/2026 18:23

Really classy and beautiful.

MrsMitford3 · 08/02/2026 18:30

Perfect!!

Agree a pop of colour-I think fuchsia shoes and bag a great idea-love navy and pink.

And I almost never like the things ppl post on here asking if they are ok!!
Gorgeous!!

SuperSharpShooter · 08/02/2026 18:33

Gosh OP, thats lovely.
Perfect for your sons wedding. Love the idea of a splash of pink, do the shoes as well!

mellicauli · 08/02/2026 18:39

love it!

holycrapballs · 08/02/2026 18:40

It’s a gorgeous dress, so lovely. A fuchsia bag would be great with it.

SirChenjins · 08/02/2026 18:40

Ahh thanks everyone! 😊 I love the dress, but my social life involves dog walking up hills with my pals, so I'm a bit clueless. I think I need to stick with the navy shoes - I've found that if I wear shoes that are a different colour to a plain coloured (roughly) knee length dress it shortens me even more, so think I'll just go for a coloured bag. Does fuchsia sound ok?

That is a gorgeous dress!

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 08/02/2026 18:41

Really nice. Wedding appropriate without being TOO mother of the bride. Hobbs is great for these sorts of occasion outfits if you don’t want something too out there.

skippy67 · 08/02/2026 18:43

Nice.

Whatayear26 · 08/02/2026 18:43

Really lovely ☺️

ChristmasGrit · 08/02/2026 18:48

Lovely, perfect for what you want. Hobbs do lots of wristlets and fascinator hats. I’m sure the would be happy to help if you popped in.

MrsMitford3 · 08/02/2026 18:50

I know this is not pink but I bloody love it

I'm so glad you said that - I wanted to avoid that formal 'mother of the bride/groom' look with anything too formal or structured as that's just not me at all. That's great this dress doesn't have that look 😊

Love love love that bag @MrsMitford3 - that is stunning!

StrawberriesandBrylcream · 08/02/2026 18:55

Gorgeous dress and the bag sounds perfect for a splash of colour. I wouldn't try to match the shoes to the bag anyway, something that complements it would be my preference so navy or nude would be my go to.
You have a lovely eye for a dress

It really is isn't it...

having a glass of wine and feel myself buying it.

You can borrow it... 😉

MrsBridgetMcClusky · 08/02/2026 18:57

Beautiful! Like the idea of the pink, but I also see it with gold.

MrsWhites · 08/02/2026 18:58

Love it, perfect for the occasion and you could wear again.

Also love the bright pink bag idea too!

I love that bag but don’t think it pair it with the OPs’ dress though. Maybe it’s the different textures. I’m imagining a plain but bright fabric.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 08/02/2026 19:06

Definitely go for a metallic bag OP! Hot pink with navy is a bit cliched.

My DM is the same about wanting to avoid the classic MOTB look - she wouldn’t be seen dead in a pastel pink bolero jacket and kitten heels.
