How to get rid of chin hairs when your eye sight is not so great (thanks menopause!))

Just that. I can feel them but I can't see them, even with my glasses, a magnifying mirror and all the lights on 🙄I usually just get the razor out and give my chin a once over but I don't think that is the best solution...
Any tips?

@Additup Blonde hairs can still look terrible. Mine are long so I look like Fu Manchu Barbie or a would-be Viking warrior if I don’t do something about them!

😲 I didn't realise long blonde chin hairs could be a thing !!!!

Before becoming “virilized” and looking like full pubes, hairs go through an intermediate stage.

Vellus hairs are tiny, see through and barely visible. They can become “accelerated”.

Accelerated hairs are a little thicker and longer, and blonde or brown in fair-complected people.

Eventually they become fully virilized chin pubes.

PrincessOfPreschool · 31/01/2026 19:28

I wax them

LadyRoughDiamond · 31/01/2026 19:28

Another vote here for the epilator. I whizz over chin hairs a couple of times a week. Moustache can be eye-watering but it’s over quickly. Also works for peach fuzz on cheeks.

Electrolysis is the answer

ThatsOneView · 31/01/2026 19:33

I have a x10 magnifying mirror and use a combo of things. I have actually cut some skin off a few times with the tweezerman nail scissors. Very sharp when new! Not advised.

I mascara mine so I can see them, then tweeze.

I can’t decide if I’m a total genius or batshit mental.

Chineous

DearestItIsSnowing · 31/01/2026 19:40

I had a lot of electrolysis a long time ago, which worked well. It was before the days of laser treatment.

But now I’m post-menopausal more hairs are breaking though, which need attention.I can’t imagine going for more electrolysis because there aren’t enough at a time to make it worth a visit. I tweeze 2 or 3 times a week, and find perhaps 2-4 hairs each time. I’d feel very self-conscious and unkempt if I left them to grow between electrolysis visits.

newbie202020 · 31/01/2026 19:45

Get them lazered off?

Maia77 · 31/01/2026 19:49

You need good light.

TOTAL GENIUS. I salute you. I can still just about see mine in my insanely strong hand mirror at the moment but I will remember that I can mascara my chin when that fails me.

I am going to try this tomorrow

Get electrolysis, remove them permanently

Electrolysis doesn’t remove them permanently I used to get that before Covid and had to go every month. Currently flawless finish but need to do it every day. I’ve booked in for laser on my chin. Has anyone any experience of it?

pestowithwalnuts · 31/01/2026 20:35

Are these those hairs that aren't there at night but appear long black and wirey in the morning...the menopausal fuckers .

If it genuinely didn’t work, you had an incompetent practitioner who plucked your hairs before they were killed.

Though each hair does need to be zapped on two separate occasions before dying. Also, at any one point some hairs will be in the exogen stage - post-she’d and before regrowth - so not visible or zappable.

I literally went for years and over that time to different but definitely reputable salons. I still needed it done every month.

minnowonthesay · 31/01/2026 20:58

I had electrolysis twenty years ago and it really scarred my chin and area between my brows, hopefully it’s improved since then - as my previous thread proves, it didn’t work on me either as I’m still the beardy weirdy 🙄

I usually position a light source under my chin with the mirror tilted to catch the light. Another trick is to dust your chin with dark eyeshadow to make the offending hairs to stand out.

like your name btw - one of my favourite Cure songs!

Yes. No hair to three cm long overnight. The evil is strong.

RonnSeall · 31/01/2026 19:10

I also have a Simplehuman mirror and it’s amazing- although it’s horrific when you see your face that magnified!

Like nothing else. It really is horrific! But once you can’t see any more hairs in that mirror you KNOW they’re all gone.

Tezza1 · 31/01/2026 21:24

patooties · 31/01/2026 00:43

do people taking razors to their faces not end up with stubble?
I have 4 hairs (that’s it) I can pull the fuckers without a mirror as they got from zero to sancho panza overnight. Car tweezers are your friend.

You do realise you are tempting fate by saying you have only four hairs. I speak from experience.

MayaPinion · 31/01/2026 21:51

Like Mr Tweezerman but £3.99 for two. Used these for years and they’re very efficient.

How long did that take? I've been going for over a year...

Leumurshavethumbs · 31/01/2026 22:15

Similar to the mascara trick, I spray dry shampoo on my chin. It coats all the bristly fuckers in a light layer of snow and highlights them for my tweezers!

weaselyeyes · 31/01/2026 22:19

It’s very comforting to read of others’ similar struggles! I’ve just bought a lumea as the sheer volume of dark hairs feels like it’s got way beyond my plucking ability and failing eyesight. The white hairs might elude it, but I’ve got enough darker ones to keep it busy!

It says you’re meant to remove all hair before using it, but I’ve not been able to contemplate shaving or doing anything to the currently acceptable hairs, as I’m frightened of over-exciting them and going full Desperate Dan. Has anyone used the lumea on a haired chin and had success?
