Anyone also crazy about this Dune bag?

I know it’s very similar to the Bottega Venetta Hop.

I saw it for the first time yesterday, they’ve got some lovely colours and I’m especially inclined towards either the light brown or the blush pink. Reviews on their website are good but would love to hear any MNetters opinions, especially those who have the bag!

It went a bit viral last year (Cosmopolitan link here) so calling it “dated” is quite funny (unless spring 2025 is dated? Maybe it is)

I liked the look of it then and was quite tempted but agreed that it’s quite pricey for synthetic. Some of the colours are on sale on third party sites - won’t linked lest I’m accused of trying to get affiliate revenue but eg saw black one on ASOS for £75 I think.

Not sure why my reply linking to a Cosmopolitan article about how the bag went viral last year has been hidden! Anyway, it apparently did, so not sure whoever called it dated is quite right :)

VivienneDelacroix · 26/01/2026 08:32

I wonder if Mumsnet gets the affiliate benefit rather than OP, if she just copied and pasted the link from the website? It could be an agreement with certain shops?

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 26/01/2026 04:34

It’s nice but an annoying shape

That’s what like about it :-)

I like slouch bags. Points about the price vs it being synthetic are well taken.

Yep it’s about a year old and now back by popular demand.

When I click on the link, it just goes to Dune. Is that wrong? First time poster on this topic and also with links.

Lots of woven (real) leather bags on Etsy for that sort of price, that would be my preference

BrendaSmall · 26/01/2026 08:40

It looks like cheap and nasty plastic , no way would I pay £129 for it

LoveWine123 · 26/01/2026 08:41

Papayatropics · 26/01/2026 08:24

No that was not my intention. I went on Dune, found the bag and posted the link so that people could see what I was referring to. If I’ve posted a wrong link, I’ll delete it. First time I put up a link for anything. Really no need to be this aggressive. Everything is not ill-intentioned.

Aggressive? Because I called you out? 😂 You somehow by accident posted the link from which you earn money? Sure….

nothingtoseehereatall · 26/01/2026 08:51

@LoveWine123 If I went to the link in the Cosmo article and pasted it here it would also be an affiliate link, because Cosmo would have one. It doesn’t mean I would make money.

I don’t know where the OP got the link from but it’s perfectly possible she did something similar. Posting an affiliate link doesn’t mean it’s your personal one …

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 26/01/2026 08:56

It looks plastic, it isn't even good looking faux leather. It looks cheap.

CunningLinguist2 · 26/01/2026 09:10

Unlined = nope.
Cheap copy = nope
Rose blush makes it look a little scrotum’esque = nope

I don’t earn any money from anything here. This is idiotic. Not worth the harassment from people like you. Go pick on someone else.

Thank you @nothingtoseehereatall. I went to the Dune website and posted the link to the bag.

@LoveWine123 I can’t be bothered with the toxicity insist on bringing to a thread about opinions on a bag. Your life must be fun.

Not for me. Don’t like the clasp bit at the top. Doesn’t look right to me.

OvernightBloats · 26/01/2026 09:36

I've noticed quite a few students with that similar shape slouch bag at the moment. The bags look better when they are on the shoulder than when not being carried.

Seen no woven bags though. That handle looks really uncomfortable because of that weave. There are lots of lovely slouch bags available at the moment - I would look for something more practical and comfortable to carry.

It's plastic, looks cheap, it's mass produced and it's a 'rip off' of a designer bag.

But, if you like it, go for it. It's your money.

The strap is super comfortable. I tried it on. My concern is that it might look a bit cheap, as it has some shiny elements on the material.

It looks cheap and dated op. Like very old fashioned type. I’m sure you can find other stuff out there

I like the look of it in the darker colours (I think the lighter colours look cheap and plasticky - obviously the darker colours are also plastic, but they carry it off better!).

The reviews are good. The popper closure looks like it would be awkward to use.

Ultimately I wouldn't buy it because it's synthetic and I don't think it would last well. But then I have a thing about bags being leather, and I'm not really bothered about the woven look. If you really love the woven look then it could be a good affordable option.

A few years ago I almost bought the Bottega (the designer one on which this is based). But even there, the cost of that bag versus the material used, did not make sense.

I like the design of it, I’m a sucker for that woven leather look particularly in the summer. But it’s plastic so a no from me.

I do wish Dune would use real leather, so many of their bags are a great style but they are always synthetic and look and feel plasticky in person, plus it’s obviously not great for the environment. It’s weird as their shoes are real leather so why arent the bags?

And considering it’s not real leather I think that price is very high.

Sigh. I think you are right (as are a lot who’ve pointed out the same thing re synthetic vs price). I’ve bought very plain, simple but leather bags for £50 so it’s not like Dune couldn’t do it.
