SOTE is La Superba Rossa which has grown on me recently

IDontHateRainbows · 22/01/2026 21:19

SOTE Amouage Lineage. There's something very particular about Amouage that just smells of decadance and privilege somehow, something in the 'house DNA;. I like this one, it's rich (in terms of depth, not (just) money) and complex and expertly blended.

Has anyone tried Creed Carmina? It came in the liberty floral box and I was intending to sell it, but the profile looks like it might be up my alley - rose, oud, cherry, where do I sign? I could test it but I don't like to sell them once I've tested it as ebay have really clamped down on selling 'tested' or 'sprayed once' and I don't want to lie.

Lineage is such a strange one and not my usual thing at all. It has aquatic notes alongside a lot of spice. It's a 'do I like it or not I'd better put some more on and see' kind of scent. I mean, I do like it. But I don't know why I like it. I get this with food occasionally, where it's interesting so I have some more to see why. Not sure if anyone else gets this.

I wore Santal 33 yesterday. I don't know how did I ever like it... uh

Lurkingshark · 23/01/2026 06:56

Carmina came as a test in the CB free fragrance gift if you got it @IDontHateRainbows ? I quite like it as a rose note fan, but it may be that the delina is enough for you? Very feminine not to sweet.

@MiaN interesting! I never fell into it but the marks dupe is a good light spray. Cosy.

I think i will test the carmina, wfh day so time to spritz spritz spritz !

SOTD tana meadow from the liberty floral box. This is uncannily like rare beauty rare - maybe not quite as spicy/gingery but has a very similar base, quite sweet verging on too sweet. I do like it but it's not one I would reach for every day, a little too much on the sweet side. I had a small sample of rare and enjoyed it so this should be a lovely addition to my ever growing collection.

Speaking of which I have loads and loads of travel sprays now, if I had to count them up I'd say 60-70 I do enjoy getting these but sometimes the thrill of the new can over ride the enjoyment of the old.

I have learned the hard way not to buy full bottles though, as I inevitably move on to something else although my byredo mo ghost absolu and vanilla powder have been ones I've continually returned to.

I'm going to be in London for my birthday and no birthday is complete without a trip to Liberty and the perfume lounge, thinking of buying this although it should be redeemable against purchase and I'm not sure it is? Although the sparkling wine and truffles sounds good....

Also having sworn off full bottles I wonder if they'd let me get a selection pack...

It does sound like a good experience though,

That sounds wonderful

Little sniff session today. Gypsy Water Absolu - another uh. Now I can say I much prefer the original GW, bal d'afriqie and MG but the worse absolu by far is GW.

The new dior addicts- tested 2 out of 3, firm no for me.

The new Kilian - I may try on skin some day.

MFK la rose male - like but dodn't need

Ouai Sicily - I like but not sure if I need it. If there is good offer on SpaceNK I may use up my points but no rush.

Its nice to be at stage I am not tempted to buy every perfume I like.

OvaHere · 23/01/2026 11:10

SOTD Valentino Born in Roma Extradose today. This is a strong one and I've overdone it because I wanted to finish off the 2ml sample. I quite like the BiR range and still half wish I'd bought the reduced gift set. I have too much perfume though.

Edited

What made it the worst absolu? I do think sometimes the absolus or exclusifs are not as good the original
Originals I prefer: Gris Charnel, Valaya, Vanilla powder

It's a bit of a con to get us perfume addicts to pay/buy more!

OP posts:
MiaN · 23/01/2026 11:41

The other two are nice. Maybe I prefer the original but I didn't dislike them, they were just different take on the original. This is intense dislike - nothing like the original, very artificial vanilla/plastic to my nose and doesn't even remind me of GW.

MiaN · 23/01/2026 11:43

it also feels very generic to me, very disappointing.

Mackemlass79 · 23/01/2026 12:24

SOTD an impulsive vinted buy a double roll on of coach poppy and poppy blossom i am wearing poppy blossom today the smell is very strong on the rollerball but seemingly my skin eats it as its very light on the skin can barely smell it. A nice pleasant fragrance but definitely not a head turner so I'm glad its just a small purse size

MotherWol · 23/01/2026 12:35

SOTD Diptyque Bois Corse, I really like the warm coffee and wood notes but maybe this is a bit heavy for office days? I feel like it’s best worn on days where I’ll be outside in cold air, but I’m always a bit concerned about how other people will react to scents.

@MiaN Byredo has been one of my biggest disappointments, love the aesthetics, love the notes, but Gypsy Water literally disappears within an hour on me. The product doesn’t match the hype.

BakeOffRewatch · 23/01/2026 12:39

In terms of houses, I haven’t liked anything from Byredo, Granado or Bibbi yet.

I love everything I’ve smelled from Ex Nihilo.

Vilhelm Parfumerie is hit and miss.

BORNTOSTANDOUT is unique and more about curiosity than anything else!

MiaN · 23/01/2026 12:40

I like good few. I wish they last longer but I still appreciate the scents. If I have to choose only one perfume from everything I own it could be bal d'afrique, it really works for me and my mood.

IDontHateRainbows · 23/01/2026 12:50

Have I had a brain transplant? I tried Bibbi Swimming pool in the summer and hated it - real scrubber. Just tried it again and it's lovely and refreshing! So strange but I am exploring more aquatic and fresh notes. Maybe it's one where the brain has to get used to them but can then learn to like them? I was like that with Amber, hated it at first then got in to it. I am getting bored of sweet gourmands and vanillas so apprecite the new direction.

I quite liked this one. Not a fave by any means but it's different and I liked it enough to keep it.

Granado to me is a mid tier brand posing as a high end brand, nothing exciting about anything I've tried from there all a bit meh.

Bryedo I have some absolute favourites from but it's hit and miss, a good house for experimenting and discovery. I also like the aesthetic.

Bibbi I love vanilla factoy and now swimming pool but not much else

Vilhelm there's some good ones in there and I would explore more .

A house I really want to get to know better is Ds and Durga, they have some very experimental scents like steamed rainbow and concrete lightning, but I would want samples not a full bottle.

if I really want to live on the perfume edge, ELDO have some weird scents including the fat electrician one.

QueefofSheena · 23/01/2026 15:45

I found Swimming Pool had a bit of a menthol edge. I may give it another go in this weather.

SOTD is ADP Oud & Zagara, opens a bit soapy but settles nicely on me

IDontHateRainbows · 23/01/2026 17:22

It does have a menthol edge but it dries down quite nicely so not as strong as it is at first. It's really gone from Zero to Hero for me, can't believe how much I now like it. It definitely feels like diving into a lovely outdoor pool or pond on a warm summer's day.

The liberty fragrance lounge experience looks great but I'm worried they would make/entice/encourage me to buy a full bottle of something hideoulsy expensive. I wonder if I could 'say I wanted to think about it' and then get some samples online of whatever I fall in love with. I know they can't make me part with my money and I'm usually quite good at resisting hard sell. Plus liberty wouldn't be too pushy I don't think. They do have slots on the day I'll be there, my birthday. Hmmmm.........
