Barrel leg jeans

I like them. On others! Bought some and felt they looked like clown trousers! Can anyone suggest some that are less clown like but still slightly cropped and wide?

They look awful on everyone.

Makemeanonymous · 28/12/2025 12:07

Another absolutely ridiculous fashion trend.

I.was looking at some photos from the 1970s last week. With people wearing those really wide trousers and flares that were in fashion then. And they just looked absolutely laughable.

When people look back on photos of themselves wearing the awful wide trousers, and barrel legged trousers that they have been conned into wearing in recent times they will wonder why they ever allowed themselves to be made fools of by the fashion industry.

RedRiverShore6 · 28/12/2025 12:12

They suit people that are shortish and not too thin, I'm far too tall for them so look a bit silly.

Handeyethingyowl · 28/12/2025 12:13

A colleague has the Whistles barrel leg jeans and looks great.

MySweetGeorgina · 28/12/2025 12:15

I love them, they look cool

i have shines from Uniqlo that are really nice, they come in different lengths

Because they’re not as balloon like compared to many. I tried a pair on in M&S and they were ridiculous! I looked like a cow girl.

Clockyclockz · 28/12/2025 12:19

You need to go for the subtle ones

shoofly · 28/12/2025 12:22

I'm short and fat and over 50 and they looked bloody ridiculous on and went straight back. On my tall, willowy 35 year old friend and tall slim teenagers they look great

Floisme · 28/12/2025 12:23

The op wasn’t asking for opinions on barrel leg jeans. She asked for recommendations.

I think the barrel shape has become more extreme in the last few years as it’s caught on, and both my favourites are from a few years ago:
I have some from M&S that aren’t the best quality denim but the curve in the leg is quite gentle. Also some from the Uniqlo U range of a few years ago which are wider than M&S.

If the current ones on the high street feel a bit much, it might be worth checking out second hand sources.

LevelHed · 28/12/2025 12:26

The Japanese made denim ones from Toast are gorgeous.

Quincette · 28/12/2025 12:26

I love them. On other people.

I am tall and slim, yet they look bloody awful on me. I’m determined to find some that look good.

Clockyclockz · 28/12/2025 12:27

i’m tall & look weird & lanky in the more extreme ones

SiobahnRoy · 28/12/2025 12:28

I’ve tried a few and whistles are the best (least clown like) on me

SwirlyShirly · 28/12/2025 12:30

Horseshoe are similar - slightly less exaggerated than barrel leg. I got some nice ones in next that I wear often.

mynameiscalypso · 28/12/2025 12:31

My favourite are the Tu Relaxed Barrel Leg jeans. I’m wearing them right now and don’t think they look ridiculous at all - I’m 5’7’’ and a pear shaped size 12.

Agree with this. I love them. (Short and not thin).

Somnambule · 28/12/2025 12:35

I bloody love them. I'm tall and fairly slim but I think they look great on pretty much everyone. Comfy too, unlike skinnies which I'll be happy that never wear again.

These, all day long. They are the best jeans I've had for years.

The Whistles ones are also very good, I have a pair in a darkish khaki.

Also have some from H&M (nice fit, but very soft denim so tend to look more baggy and tapered at the ankle than true barrel - not a bad thing just different), and some balloon leg from M&S (far more subtle shape than the name would suggest). But Sainsburys are the best by far.

I gained a lot of weight over the last couple of years and have now lost it all plus an extra stone, and have had the Sainsburys jeans in every size from 14 (possibly 16) down to 8 and they suited me at every size. I'm 5' 6" and a small waisted pear, currently arseless due to weight loss, and definitely do not look like a clown. I do however look like a parsnip or some kind of misshapen sausage in skinny jeans.

EllaPaella · 28/12/2025 13:11

Uniqlo curve leg are the nicest I’ve found aside from my Sasa ones (bought from a local shop and not easily available online). I hate any that have a high waist - they totally distort the overall look. Uniqlo are great as they are very much mid rise.

TheLemonOtter · 28/12/2025 13:12

I am shortish and not thin and I think they suit me! Have a cream H and M pair, and a blue mango pair (they are called balloon in Mango, but are really a barrel).

I like Baukjen Nixi. I have them in washed and black.

I'm sure you look nothing of the sort! Congrats on the weightloss. I'm a 14 amd curvy and just find them super flattering on. I have two pairs of barrel jeans from M&S and wear them loads.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 28/12/2025 18:31

I should like them as I’m a size 12 and 5 ft 5 but I’ve never tried them. Now wondering about them.
