Barrel leg jeans

I like them. On others! Bought some and felt they looked like clown trousers! Can anyone suggest some that are less clown like but still slightly cropped and wide?

Quick question for experts. Do barrel jeans have any stretch in them or don’t they need them?

DramaAlpaca · 28/12/2025 18:36

I like them on me, I'm tall and I have a couple of pairs from Hush that are just slightly cropped.

Rainbow1901 · 28/12/2025 18:54

They make people look like they have rickets!!

Another absolutely ridiculous fashion trend.

I.was looking at some photos from the 1970s last week. With people wearing those really wide trousers and flares that were in fashion then. And they just looked absolutely laughable.

When people look back on photos of themselves wearing the awful wide trousers, and barrel legged trousers that they have been conned into wearing in recent times they will wonder why they ever allowed themselves to be made fools of by the fashion industry.

I don't think they are any more of a con than any other fashion trend. It's like saying you should only enjoy photography because abstract expressionism or cubism isn't realistic.

To me the main point of a fashion trend is that they are fun.

Delphigirl · 30/12/2025 16:10

I bought some black corduroy ones from hush with some trepidation and actually I quite like them. Not too barrelly and the colour/texture combo is anti-clown

Onelittledog · 30/12/2025 16:44

Carrot leg from M&S are a narrower less billowy version of a barrel leg but my favourites are beyond nine.

twilightcafe · 30/12/2025 16:59

Bunch of miseries earlier in the thread!
I like them - at least they're a more interesting shape than straight/mom cuts.

I have several pairs: narrower from Sainsbury's, M&S; and a wider Topshop pair.

5ft10, size 16/18

Also wear Uniqlo curve and I think they are great. The are quite utilitarian which I like.

I actually thought that people who are into fashion took it deadly seriously. That it wasn't fun at all to them.

In my experience the people who derive fun from fashion are the bemused onlookers who are amused by the ridiculous things fashionistas are prepared to wear in the name of adopting the latest trend.

I defy any one but the most dedicated follower of fashion to find barrel leg trousers anything other than looking extremely silly.

I can't comment on your experience - or lack - of but I enjoy fashion and particularly the silliness. I like looking at my outfits in old photos from the 70s and 80s, wondering what the hell I was thinking and having a good laugh.

HipHopDontYouStop · 30/12/2025 17:24

I love wide leg trousers. Don’t see the appeal of barrel leg at all.

Monstermunchy · 30/12/2025 17:29

I have dark denim whistles ones - they’re nice but I think they’ve shrunk in length slightly which is annoying - they’re nice and soft so don’t look too accentuated.
I often get complimented on them too (early 50s, 5’6, size 8/10)

My favourite are the Tu Relaxed Barrel Leg jeans. I’m wearing them right now and don’t think they look ridiculous at all - I’m 5’7’’ and a pear shaped size 12.

I have these too. I like them on but they're a pain in the arse to iron.

MeAndMyGhost · 30/12/2025 17:32

I am 5 feet 7 inches, a good 16 (prob small 18 if I'm being honest) and have these from Old Navy, I love them and think they suit me very well.

*Apologies I thought Old Navy did international shipping, but right now they don't.

I'm giving a 2nd vote for the M&S Ankle grazer carrot leg jeans - not as curved as barrel legs .

Branleuse · 30/12/2025 17:36

It's my favourite jeans shape ever.

Decemberweeds · 30/12/2025 17:44

I have always felt that with barrel jeans it was a case of a bunch of misogynistic fashion designers sitting round a table thinking up something that will make women look absolutely ridiculous.

They are genuinely awful. On everyone.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 28/12/2025 11:47

They look awful on everyone.

In your opinion

MoominMai · 30/12/2025 17:49

@Makemeanonymous oh no disagree with the iconic flares lol. I think you’re right, there was a period of time when people looked back at the 70s and flares in disbelief but I think since the late 90s or so they’ve sort of become an acceptable classic style. I think they look good as long as they’re not crazy wide.

What I fail to get are those jeans with the massive turn ups! They look horrendous!

bostonchamps · 30/12/2025 18:01

I’m just assuming everyone who is saying they look awful on ‘everyone’ just aren’t stylish enough to make them work 💅🏻

Ha you don’t need to be sorry to me, I don’t design them 😂

bostonchamps · 30/12/2025 18:23

to answer your question OP you might like the ASOS slim barrel leg, they do a pair in several washes that has an adjustable waist which is brilliant for my hourglassness. I wore the black wash today with a grey sweater tucked in, neppy socks and black suede bostons.
I’m going out tonight in a pair of leather barrels - would you consider non-jeans? I have a white denim shirt and backless western mule heels on (I am freezing but I will suffer for these shoes).
