Naomi Watts and Emma Thompson have loads but still look great so what do they use to make their lined and wrinkled skin look so good?

Asking for a friend 😊

I didn’t have any lines till post menopause at 52 but I’m also half Chinese and as they say Asian don’t raisin. I still have very few. There is a Chinese comedian, she is brutal, I saw a sketch where she said Asians are all Hello Kitty and then suddenly Yoda, I await my fate. I would say my skin is just like my Dads who was virtually unlined till he died at 84. He drank zero alcohol, almost all fresh from scratch food, steamed fish, rice and veg, walked a couple of miles a day.

Hi @NooNooHead I am 59 and also half Chinese, I have zero number 11 just a few fine lines at the very edge of my eyes and none of the ones round my mouth.

I’m half Korean and you know Koreans won the skin jackpot.
No wrinkles but a constant battle to keep away hyperpigmentation. And the loss of fat isn’t something I’m loving.

spent most of my life lamenting my moon face. Now wishing it back 😆

I cant comment on the two celebrities you mentioned.

Im not totally wrinkle free but I have great skin at 60. I think this is a combination of good genes. I started a skin care programme when I was about 14.of course I didnt know it was called that but I used Anne French cleanser and a moisturiser before going on to something more sophisticated ( probably Nivea! 😆) I never smoked, I rarely drink and I have used sunblock on my face, even in winter for 40 years and stay hydrated and sleep well. I think those factors have helped me look ok.

That's petroleum jelly. It doesn't contain any protein.

I know but I've always called it protein jelly.
Its ahabit.

kittywittyandpretty · 15/12/2025 10:38

Has anybody tried that Korean make-up I keep seeing advertised on Facebook?

People comment on how nice my skin is . No alcohol is the big one , then after that is sunscreen and staying out of the sun. Then using boots protect and perfect range.

KingfisherBluey · 15/12/2025 11:26

It's an opinion that they look good @IsobellaandthePotofBasil

You only see them I assume when they have had perfect slap applied by experts.

Sometimes the more revealing photos taken when they are not in 'public' show something very different.

I think ET has very old skin for her age to be honest.

Does it look 'good'? What is good?
It's make up and lighting.

That's because we have got used to seeing 60 something women look like Nicole Kidman or Amanda Holden. So it's a shock when they actually have wrinkles.
I think Harriet Walter also looks great but no one else does! Because she doesn't look like Demi Moore.

I find it impossible to believe that people in their 50's+ have no wrinkles. Not even a single fine line? (Someone will come in in a minute to say that their 92 year old grandmother doesn't have a single one.)

Probably short sighted and thus everything looks better lol.

WearyAuldWumman · 15/12/2025 11:51

I'll add that in spite of avoiding sunbathing, I have 'orrible sunspots. How come?

In the '60s, children from deprived areas were still being given the 'benefit' of sunray lamp sessions at the local health clinic: I was about three, I think.

I vaguely remember a roomful of toddlers, all stripped to our pants, supplied with sun goggles and sitting round one large sunlamp. I believe that it was supposed to boost our vitamin D.

Not sure how long that went on, but the damage has been done.

ETA I am fighting a losing battle to fade the most prominent one on the side of my nose and one on a cheekbone.

YYYDlilah · 15/12/2025 11:08

What's wrong, it's just a name I was raised with and it's stuck.
Its not worth the quoting about but here we are doing it.

In the 1960s? That's unusual. It was something my mum mentions (she was born in the 1920s) but I was never aware of it in the 1960s and I was in a very deprived area.

Sun damage comes from UVA and UVB rays and the only way to stop that is to use spf 50e very single day as the rays still come through on cloudy days.

I started using spf daily at 35 (a long time ago) when it was advised during some treatment (not related to the sun.)

Even now you should be using spf 50, under make up, every day.

No it' s not. There is a huge difference between the clearly 'worked on' faces of AH and the appearance of HW (who looks very old indeed compared to my friends near her age.)

SparkleSpriteDust · 15/12/2025 14:27

I always think that women my age (mid-50's) and older look great with well defined eyebrows and a pretty, fresh colour on their cheeks and lips.

And, most importantly, a great smile and a sense of fun.

See I don't think there's anything wrong in looking old, so I think Harriet Walter looks great. As does Siobhan Finneran.

I googled Harriet Walter. She’s 75! What do you expect her to look like?

You are coming from the angle that looking old is bad. But that’s simply not true. You can have very beautiful 70 year olds that look their age but look good with wrinkles and lines and you can have 30 year olds who don’t look good even if they have zero wrinkles.

I will say a natural face is more beautiful than a weird looking overdone face…..

Not like that.
To be really blunt my mum who is in her 90s has fewer wrinkles. As do her friends who are anywhere from mid 80s to 90. None of my friends and family look like HW and they are around her age.
I wonder if she was a smoker?

I agree with the rest of your post.

It’s a fact of life that some people look young (not better or more beautiful) for their age and others will look their age or older.

You are associating looking old and having wrinkles at 75 as a bad thing. I think she looks beautiful. She has amazing bone structure and a natural face full of character. I think she looks 75.

You could show me someone else who is 75 and may look 65 with less wrinkles but that doesn’t mean they would be more beautiful.

Delatron · 15/12/2025 14:44

My point is wrinkles don’t make you ugly. You can have a young looking wrinkle free ugly person.

Over40Overdating · 15/12/2025 14:50

Hydration and a healthy skin barrier.

A Pro make up artist who’ll be using light layers of make up to bounce light off the skin to give the impression of fullness and health.

I’ve started using my HRT vaginal oestrogen on my skin and that seems to be helping give my skin some bounce again. Hasn’t worked on the wrinkles but skin feels less papery.

Exactly this. I would kill for HW's bone structure.

PeopleTheyAintNoGood · 15/12/2025 14:58

😂. Have you given up, OP?
If it helps, I only look 19 and I'm 82.

Fixydodah · 15/12/2025 15:15

Make up and lighting do the heavy lifting.

There is a woman in her mid 60s who came up on my Instagram feed. She is very lined. A lot of her posts start off with no make up. She looks very old. (Just a factual statement, but being mean.) I would say she looks older than her years. Clearly has the funds to have surgical interventions but doesn’t seem to. I don’t know anything about her, only seen a few posts, but it’s fascinating the transformative effects of make up.

By the time she has put on makeup her face is so different. Still looks in the autumn of life but marvellous. She is slim, fit, long grey hair and wears clothes that suit her.

Her name is whitehairwisdom (Lynn Shabinsky).
