Naomi Watts and Emma Thompson have loads but still look great so what do they use to make their lined and wrinkled skin look so good?

Asking for a friend 😊

I would so much rather look like Emma Thompson in Down Cemetery Road than Jennifer Aniston or Nicole Kidman.

BeaTwix · 14/12/2025 13:20

Moisturiser.

My skin looks much better with regular moisture. I really like a hyaluronic acid serum (the ordinary one is fine, but I normally use the beauty pie one).

My eyes like eye cream twice a day.

I've got loads of sun damage/ pigmentation thanks to years of water sports and no SPF (I'm allergeic to chemical sunscreen and good minerals just weren't around). Vit C isn't shifting it. When I've used up my moutain of beauty box products I'm going to subscribe to skin & me or dermatica.

I actually think some fine lines look better than none at all. To have none looks a bit odd if you have a skin type (northern european translucent in my case) that would normally have them.

I was on the tube last week and noticed at least three girls with huge trout pout lips. I thought they looked awful. It did make me wonder if I'm just getting really old and out of touch. A couple of my colleagues do aesthetic work so I'm sure they have filler and botox. They certainly don't look like that though!

YYYDlilah · 14/12/2025 13:26

I know someone who is qualified to do fillers and she says they are likely to make person look worse if they stop having them than if they'd not used them.

NK looks strange IMO. She looks quite unlike the young version.

ET has grown into her looks, and that's down to good bone structure.

Teaforthetotal · 14/12/2025 13:27

I agree especially that Emma Thompson looks particularly radiant recently. They're something beautiful and empowering about how she holds herself as a proud woman in her 60's. We need these role models in aging.
I imagine she uses great skincare and facials but i think her glow comes from within and a great fitness regime as she looks very healthy.

mikado1 · 14/12/2025 13:36

Anything brightening or highlighting done subtly really helps for the glow I think. And then as others have said, moisturiser, oils and serums etc so skin is at its best. Both green tea and flaxseed have made a difference to my skin and hair for a glow/clearness I think. Still have 11s 😆

BluePeterAdventWreath · 14/12/2025 13:44

I don’t have any wrinkles or grey hair at 52, my mate is convinced I have botox and my clients regularly think I’m under 40. I don’t do anything except dove face soap and aldi day & night creams and my hair is thick and natural.
My sisters in their 50s and 60s use a range of expensive creams between them and mum mid 80s uses pears soap and nivea cream also look younger than they are, it’s genetics!

Tea4ten · 14/12/2025 14:07

I don’t think lines and wrinkles are that important if the jawline is taut. It’s how ‘they’ get that taut jawline without (allegedly) having work done. That’s the mystery to me.

Agree. Kiera knightly looks amazing with wrinkles but her jawline is immaculate. No jowel in sight. I would say they have very expensive neck lifts or similar.

Agreed. I reckon quite a few have some kind of lift in their mid to late 40s, so that the skin elasticity is still good and the contrast isn't too dramatic.

pouletvous · 14/12/2025 14:24

I have a good skincare routine and look after my skin

im still aging though. It’s genes

celebrities can pay for treatments and probably dont di their own make up when going to events

P00kyW00ky · 14/12/2025 14:26

I got a LF advent calendar and there are lots of nice stuff in there

Yuasa · 14/12/2025 14:33

I have nothing to add on the topic of ET, etc., I;m afraid, but I love your title.

I particularly like how on the "how old am I?" threads there are inevitably posts along the lines of "well, my mother is 80 and has no wrinkles, so based on the fact the op has nasolabial folds I'm going to say at least 85." Meanwhile, op looks to be in her 40s.

LoisGriffinskitchen · 14/12/2025 15:02

Ha! I tried one of those AI “how old are you” photo things. I’m 59 and it told me I was 62. Rude!

So am liking this thread 😁

bettyboo9 · 14/12/2025 15:09

It’s why the Rolling Stones aren’t completely pickled yet. They don’t do the R&R lifestyle every day, they have holistic practices and a team of age happy consultants behind them.
Happiness and a life worthily lived is the best ever face treatment alongside kindness.
nb I’ve just spotted a new line 🙅‍♀️

Those of you who say you don't have wrinkles ... that's not the point of this thread. I'm talking about women who do have lines and wrinkles - like ET and NW - but their skin looks great.

Neither of them have botox or filler.

Yeah exactly. Why are loads of posters piping up to say they don’t have wrinkles. Who cares? That’s not what the OP was asking.

The women mentioned do look fabulous and it’s a lesson to stay away from any obvious work and not Botox your face.

I always think sagging and jowls look far more ageing than a few lines and wrinkles - you can’t see sagging from a distance but not fine lines.

These women have great bone structure and good jawlines. I do wonder if Emma Thompson has had a well done face lift and then left the rest of her face alone. Her jawline is very tight for her age.

The fact is though, if you’re beautiful then you’ll age well and remain beautiful. Wrinkles or not.

Younger people with no wrinkles can still not look great….

Littlebuddh · 14/12/2025 12:04

I stopped all skin care products.
I only use e45 and protein jelly.
Wash in baby wash and baby soap and cold water.
And to my amazing amazement it works.

This has been a 2 year trial for me and at 39 I dont look it, i look around 29, I have very little wrinkles compered to 2 year back.

Products that say they can turn back time is a waste of money believe me i tried them.

I have very sensitive skin hence why I use baby soap and baby wash.

I'm similar. I only use Aveeno to moisturise any dry areas and quite often just use hot water in the shower to clean my face unless I've really sweated etc. I only use a gentle soap on any dirty areas so not all over my body which seems best for my skin and it's a hell of a lot cheaper!
I do eat cleanly, drink loads of water and exercise a lot which I think gives me a semi permanent glow. I've never ever really been one for makeup which I think has kept my skin in better condition.

lifeonmars100 · 14/12/2025 15:25

I am having a think, I reckon not smoking and using SPF, good lighting , a make up artiist fot public appearances, good skin care, good food, money so less low level constant stress, which I reckon can take your "glow" away. I would also think that being in the public eye is a motivator for looking after yourself . Agree that they look good but so do most high profiile women in the entertainment industry

xmasstress12 · 14/12/2025 11:56

@Coffeeishot high cheekbones & strong jawline

It act as a scaffolding and really helps with holding skin up as you age as ageing causes the face to get longer and sag so it reduces the impact.

Edited

I am so lucky to have both and it does help. People always comment on my cheekbones I have even been asked if they are implants! God no! face is getting hollow and saggy tho and I have to keep telling myelf it could be worse. if I am tired I look as if I have died, been buried and then dug up

DucksInARowingBoat · 14/12/2025 15:44

We watched "Civil War" with Kisten Dunst last night. My husband completely unprompted said how refreshing it was to see a female actor with a "normal" face. Obviously in the film, her face is meant to reflect her life but he said it makes her much more interesting and credible as an actor.

I know men's opinions on women's faces is a big part of the issue but it's always good when people recognise what adult skin looks like for most people.

IsobellaandthePotofBasil · 14/12/2025 16:58

my clients regularly think I’m under 40

Oh bless, they really don't! Do you actually ask them to guess your age? Or do you go around saying "I'm 52, you know!"

People keep missing the point. ET and NW both look their age and look good.

Oh god the neck 😭

IsThisTheWaytoSlamMyPillow · 14/12/2025 17:23

I think their lovely smiles help a lot too. People always look better smiling and it lifts the cheeks, so sagging is less noticeable. Eyes naturally crinkle when we smile, so any ‘lines’ just look like smile lines.

Blusher also helps, decent eyebrow shape and an illuminating primer.

Prescription Tretinoin has been a game changer and I’m certain it has kept further wrinkles at bay (I’ve used Dermatica and Skin and Me). I have a product that can be mixed with the tret to fade dark spots/pigmentation - another game changer.

I’m this age group and don’t have jowls, neither did my mum. I’ve always had quite a ‘sharp chin’ though and been a fairly constant weight during adulthood which I think has helped.

JacknDiane · 14/12/2025 17:31

How do you know how good they really look @IsobellaandthePotofBasil? Have you seen either of them first thing in the morning without make up on or hair styled? Im guessing you are going by media photos. It takes an entire team to get those photos, as well as a team at home to get the lifestyle.

Money helps.
