How old is your dressing gown ?

Mine is probably 20 years old and is from BHS which in itself has been closed for years .
I have had others in that time but always defer back to old faithful and the newer ones end up going to charity shops .
How old is yours ?

I got a new one for Xmas last year… but prior to that mine was also a BHS number. That one was also a Xmas present in my in my mid/late teens… I’m 41 now!

CandyCaneKisses · 01/12/2025 09:24

Maybe 2-3 months old. I get a new one once or twice a year as they just aren’t made great anymore.

CharlotteCChapel · 01/12/2025 09:26

Ancient, it's one of the M&S heavy ones. It recently developed a hole on the seam near my armpit, I really should getting the needle and thread out.

Blahblahmama1 · 01/12/2025 09:32

From Toast. About six years old and like new. Almost ankle length, which is super handy as I live in a Victorian drafty flat.

Alltheusefulitems · 01/12/2025 09:36

Mine is 9 years old and has seen better days! My husband went Christmas shopping with our 5 year old last week, who duly whispered to me, about 15 seconds after they got home, that they'd bought a new one for Christmas 🤣🤣 I'll act surprised on Christmas morning

Mikart · 01/12/2025 09:36

10 years from John Lewis. I only wear it first thing

ExquisiteDecorating · 01/12/2025 09:41

I switched to a cheap Oodie type knee length hoodie a couple of years ago. Before that I had a full length White company velour one but it was bulky at the front, too warm and had to be held up at the front to walk up the stairs safely in it so I never really wore it, it was as good as new at about 10 years old when I got rid of it.

NigellaAwesome · 01/12/2025 09:41

Mine is over 30 years old. My DSis gave it to me, who in turn had been given it by a friend, so it’s third hand! It’s a fine silk/satin affair, and although I have thicker ones, this is the one I always wear. I have had to repair the seams a few times, but I love it.

phantomofthepopera · 01/12/2025 09:43

10 years old, it was a birthday present from DM. I have others I rarely wear, but I still call it “my new dressing gown”. The rest are even older!

RosesAndHellebores · 01/12/2025 09:45

I replaced an Autograph, heavy velour one (M&S) last year. It had got washed out after about 12 years and looked scruffy. The M&S ones aren't acceptable quality nowadays.

Replaced with a fleecy one from Seasalt, which I am very happy with.

Only wearna dressing gown first thing and as I get ready for bed at the end of the day.

jay55 · 01/12/2025 09:46

Got a new one a month or two ago, replaced a 30 year old one.

elliejjtiny · 01/12/2025 09:54

My mum and dad gave me my current dressing gown to take to hospital when i had ds1. Ds1 is now 19!

ConnieHeart · 01/12/2025 09:56

About 10 years old, from Tu. It's quite lightweight but very warm. I was thinking I might get a new one but I love this one so I probably won't. Maybe i just need to wash it 🤣

CocoPlum · 01/12/2025 10:08

I don't know exactly but I definitely had mine when DD was a baby, she did her GCSEs this year.

AmyByTheTrain · 01/12/2025 10:11

30 years. It is starting to fall apart in ways difficult to fix and I do need to admit to myself that it's time for a new one.

MsGinaLinetti · 01/12/2025 10:18

27 years

TooTiredToType77 · 01/12/2025 10:28

13 years old. Still going very strong and love it! Bought from a hotel we stayed in for a big birthday

namechangedforthisone90 · 01/12/2025 10:33

about 6-8 years old at a guess. I still love it and live in it in winter .. day or night regardless .. but the cuffs are now matted and dirty, despite washing it on a boil wash each time. The cuffs look grim and I need a new one. There are so many I can't decide.. I want something stylish and knee length but not too heavy but has to be cosy.

Nightmanagerfan · 01/12/2025 10:33

My mum bought mine from M&S when I went to University. I am now 46 so it’s 28 years old! It’s a tarten pattern in cotton. Still going strong. It’s been round the family as my sister had it for a while and my nephew took it to boarding school for a few terms. I doubt anything in M&S would last as long these days

MsSquiz · 01/12/2025 10:38

8 years. It belonged to my DM who owned it for 3 months before she passed away, I bough it for her for Christmas.

DramaAlpaca · 01/12/2025 10:40

I bought it in Asda, probably about 20 years ago. Not sure. It's still lovely and cosy.

EducatingArti · 01/12/2025 10:41

My summer one is about 43 years old but I don't wear it often. It was made by my grandmother in silk in a kimono style when I was 18.

HelloCharming · 01/12/2025 10:42

Treated myself to a British Boxer one this year - it's lovely - never too hot or too cold. https://british-boxers.com/collections/womens-dressing-gowns/products/womens-brushed-cotton-dressing-gown-moss-herringbone

Prior to that had a M&S cotton one that must have been 20 years old and was very very faded (even though I'd dyed it once) and a very fluffy bit of a fire risk fleece one for the depths of winter that was about 7 years old. Still got that in the wardrobe for if we have a real cold snap.

Women's Brushed Cotton Dressing Gown – Moss Herringbone

Envelope yourself in total luxury. This dressing gown is a classic – and it's the sumptuous brushed cotton that makes it so special. The fibres in the cloth are dyed to our own colour specification, then brushed repeatedly to make them super soft, and...

Over 10 years, bought second hand. 100% cotton which is hard to find.

Eyesopenwideawake · 01/12/2025 10:47

One of mine is coming up for 30, a Christmas present from my (almost) former and now long dead mother in law. The ex is also dead but the dressing gown is going strong!
