Mine is probably 20 years old and is from BHS which in itself has been closed for years .
I have had others in that time but always defer back to old faithful and the newer ones end up going to charity shops .
How old is yours ?

I have a stupid number of dressing gowns. Oldest is at least 20.

20 years. It's an M&S brown one that I had as a xmas gift from my mum. I disliked it when it was gifted but hate wate so have just worn it every day and bloody thing still looks brand new - so I'll probably have it until I die....

FairViewRosie25 · 01/12/2025 22:13

Yes mine is at least 22 years old bought from BHS from my late father in law. Utterly the most comfortable piece of clothing i own

JonathanGirl · 01/12/2025 22:20

Mine is probably only about 5 or 6 years old.
DH’s is about 15 years old, and still looks good.
Teen Dd’s is the oldest, but also visibly the best quality - it was mine as a teen, so well over 30 years old.

My winter one is from Liberty - silk, peacock feather print, full length - and is 14 years old. Still looks brand new and I love wearing it as it feels like a real indulgence and is very warm despite being so slinky. My summer version is from an online store that sells Indian block print cotton fabrics and dressing gowns (can't remember the name) and is a beautiful red printed cotton, short with bracelet length sleeves.

I had a fleecy one but I find it way too hot. Plus I bought a lighter one plus some PJs when I had to have surgery a couple of months ago, just in case I had to stay in overnight. I have as yet to wear it. I’m not one for for spending time in nightwear.

My dressing gown is older than I am, I love vintage clothing.... I also hardly ever use it, because I don't use dressing gowns

SouthernNights59 · 02/12/2025 00:12

Mine is well over 20 years old and still in good condition. It's fleece but the modern fleece ones aren't as sturdy so while I do look at replacing it every now and again I can't find anything as good. It should do a few more years yet.

It's great we like to hang on to our dressing gowns , some lovely stories attached to them as well .

I’ve just remembered my DD1 still has the dressing gown I bought for hospital when I DD2 so that’s 28 years old. I keep asking her ever year if she would like a new one and always says no I’ve got yours and I love it.

caringcarer · 02/12/2025 16:06

Ha, when mine no longer fit I stole DH's one. It's great.

I love this thread! So great in a world of fast fashion that people keep their dressing gowns til they fall apart. My own is from Sainsburys about 10 years ago, super cosy fleece, slightly bobbled. I saw a lovely one in a shop recently but told myself I couldn't justify it when there's nothing wrong with the current one!

MimiGC · 02/12/2025 21:37

I only realised how old mine was when looking back at the ‘opening presents on Xmas morning’ photos. Every year since my son was born, there I am in the same dressing gown. He’s 21 now!

Skyflyinghigh · 04/12/2025 14:12

I had a cashmere blend one for about 25 years and it was replaced last year. New one is lighter but not as warm

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 04/12/2025 15:40

About 15 years old. It's hideous(purple with white spots) but its the right length, its got a hood and it washes brilliantly. I am not one for "snuggling up" and "getting cosy in my jammies" (boak) I go from bedroom to bathroom and back. Dd was making noises about a new one last year but I kiboshed that as I dont need one.
