How old is your dressing gown ?

Mine is probably 20 years old and is from BHS which in itself has been closed for years .
I have had others in that time but always defer back to old faithful and the newer ones end up going to charity shops .
How old is yours ?

23 years, I bought it as my DP was coming over to stay the night for the first time. It’s ankle length, tartan print and very cosy.

EmmaM84 · 01/12/2025 19:12

George white towelling one that's also about 20yrs old. Still perfect. I wear it after showering as it dries so well. Have an oodie to lounge in as well

JacknDiane · 01/12/2025 19:29

I think mines about 18 years old and it was a tenner in next.

saywhatdidhesay · 01/12/2025 19:50

It dates back to at least 2014 when the local Debenhams closed, so at least 11 years but could be up to 14. It’s. John Rocha one and is a quality you don’t often find ‘these days’. I have got a newer one but the old faithful fleecy always comes out in winter

hamsterchump · 01/12/2025 19:51

At least 20 years old, It's a massive, heavy cotton towelling, men's ankle length Calvin Klein one that I bought secondhand from a jumble sale in a posh area more than 15 years ago for 40p. It's had a few repairs now but I love it, it might be my favourite item of clothing, I will wear it until I can see through it or until it sees me out.

PropertyD · 01/12/2025 20:25

Wow. I hate the ones with a hood and have a slinky one when guests are staying and a very comfy one that I use early evening and I love it

mdinbc · 01/12/2025 20:32

I have a thin jersey short one. It came as a set with sleeping shorts and vest top. Those have since been recycled, but the dressing gown remains. I'm guessing about 8 years old.

I like that it has 3/4 sleeves since my hands are always in the kitchen sink! Nothing worse than wide sleeves getting into your jam toast.

MYOB12 · 01/12/2025 20:37

I have one that is around 20 years old. My eldest DC gave it to me for Christmas one year. It’s pale blue with polar bears on it. Probably from Asda. I have a blue satin one that I bought for honeymoon when I married their dad so that is coming up for 27 years old! Considering it’s satin which is prone to pulls, it’s as new! Also have a very thick winter one (around 15 years old) and a cooler waffle/cotton one that’s around 15 years old. So they’re all old! 😂

alecks · 01/12/2025 20:53

I just bought one the other day, have never had one before

Autumnlife · 01/12/2025 21:17

The one that I’m wearing right now is 10 years old from M&S it’s a light weight fleece one. I have a towelling autograph one that’s 8 years old bought in the sale for £11 and I have a flannel checked with Sherpa lining from Fat face that’s about 3 years old it’s really warm so only wear on the coldest mornings.

pizzaHeart · 01/12/2025 21:27

19 or 20 y.o.
DSis gave it to me as a present. I only wear it occasionally to bathroom and back. I had another warm one which I wore regularly in the mornings. It survived about 15 years.

localnotail · 01/12/2025 21:32

Mine is about 23-24 years old. Beautiful quality cotton yukata someone brought for me from Japan. Amazingly, still great colour and looks great!

I hate fluffy dressing gowns. Make me feel sad.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 01/12/2025 21:36

Mine was a present from Grandpa in law. He died when DS was nearly 1. DS is now 14 so at least 13 years if not more.

Horrorscope · 01/12/2025 21:38

About 25 years old. I bought it when I was pregnant and used it on the post-natal ward.

AutumnLeavesFallingFast · 01/12/2025 21:38

Alltheusefulitems · 01/12/2025 09:36

Mine is 9 years old and has seen better days! My husband went Christmas shopping with our 5 year old last week, who duly whispered to me, about 15 seconds after they got home, that they'd bought a new one for Christmas 🤣🤣 I'll act surprised on Christmas morning

Ah bless her! 😂

Hope you have a lovely Christmas 🎅🏼 🌲

Rubyupbeat · 01/12/2025 21:39

I find them too hot and they keep coming undone. I have a light blue one that I never wear, but husband does when his ancient m and s one is in the wash.

TheFluffiestCat · 01/12/2025 21:39

I bought it for hospital when I was pregnant so it must be 12. I saw a gorgeous one in M&S this year so I gave mine a very hard stare, but there really isn’t any reason to replace it.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/12/2025 21:45

I got a new one last year - pink and burgundy striped towelling from Next. Before that I had a lightweight waffle type one DP bought me from Debenhams, about 15 years ago.

I like wearing my oodie for warmth if I am knocking about the house (although it’s so massive it’s dangerous!). I mainly wear my dressing gown first thing to feed the cat/sort the litter tray/make tea on work days before getting in the shower.

Amberlynnswashcloth · 01/12/2025 21:48

My dressing gown is also from BHS bought over 10 years ago for hospital when expecting DC. Never wore it and probably never will because its massive and weighs a ton.

AutumnLeavesFallingFast · 01/12/2025 21:55

I don't have one.

im short (not quite 5ft) a bit 'tubby' and large of nork. They just don't work on me.

my mum has a cotton summer one from 'st Michael's' 🤣 that looks new & has been worn for at least 8 months if the year for almost 50 years (😲😲😲) and a slightly heavier one that's worn the rest of the year (which is probably the same age & probably St Michael's too, which also looks as good as new.

they certainly don't make clothes like that anymore!

TheNameisNOTZiggy · 01/12/2025 21:58

All adult dressing gowns or house coats, in this house predate the kids!!!

I reckon there is at least 1 which is 25 years old and the “youngest” is probably at least 16 years old!!!

PinkSkies2026 · 01/12/2025 22:00

About 8 years. It's a fleecy aubergine one with a hood from Tesco. I don't even love the colour but its just so cosy.

vincettenoir · 01/12/2025 22:06

6 or 7 years.

Trictactosa · 01/12/2025 22:08

Mine is about 17.

At Christmas I go to my mums and wear my nan's one. It's over 70. Button down, quilted, long. A real treat.
