How old is your dressing gown ?

Mine is probably 20 years old and is from BHS which in itself has been closed for years .
I have had others in that time but always defer back to old faithful and the newer ones end up going to charity shops .
How old is yours ?

I bought a towelling dressing gown less than a month ago, the old one had lasted 5 years.

I have a fluffy dressing gown for 2 years I think. Still looking for a lighter/summery dressing gown.

6 weeks. I bought it from Oodie to replace my previous toweling robe which was good condition but far too short.

Untrained · 01/12/2025 10:55

Crikey yes, mine must be at least 20 years old too - my Mum bought it for me when I was still living at home. Its wearing its age better than I am!

Maybe 2-3 months old. I get a new one once or twice a year as they just aren’t made great anymore.

That seems so wasteful

ChocoFroggie · 01/12/2025 10:58

12 years. It's an unappealing beige fleece. But it was a gift from DD and it's as good as new, so I can't get rid of it

hexsnidgett · 01/12/2025 11:00

I would guess 15 years, it was from sainsbury very thick and snuggly, no need to replace it. Although I did get a new summer one last year to replace the one I wore in hospital 27 years ago!!!

jellycat · 01/12/2025 11:00

I have 2, a lovely thick fleece one from Land’s End and a lighter weight M&S one. Both older than my dcs (who are young adults now).

MaryLennoxsScowl · 01/12/2025 11:35

They must have been made from better material 30 years ago! I’ve had two in the last 20 years and both went threadbare on the bum and cuffs after about 10 years. The second one isn’t actually see-through yet but it looks awful. I’ve started to think about replacing it - maybe for Christmas!

MaryLennoxsScowl · 01/12/2025 11:37

Mine have both been towelling. I hate fleece ones as they feel horrible on damp skin, so if towelling only lasts 10 years, what do I want instead? Some sort of quilted cotton?

Belladog1 · 01/12/2025 12:11

I bought a beautiful, heavy, ankle length dressing gown in velour (looks velvet) about 10yrs ago from Amazon. I ordered it and thought it would be naff, but I adore it. Unfortunately, every time I wash it, it shrinks slightly and it isn't as big or unxious as it used to be. I have also noticed that the bum area is now quite worn. I think I might need to replace it soon.

As a larger busted lady, I never got on well with deessing gowns (and dread wearing them in spas!) I switched to an Oodie and never looked back. When the Oodie is too warm I have towelling ponchos that i throw over my PJs. 😊

mamakoukla · 01/12/2025 12:21

31 years!

I’ve had my Lands End towelling robe for more than 10 years now and it’s still absolutely fine. I only use this one after bathing though. My warm winter one is a lands end velour fleece of similar age which is also in good nick, and then for summer and travelling I’ve various lightweight kimono type ones, most of which DH bought for me on business trips to japan, all before 2005.

the oldest one though I got when I lived in the US in about 1990 from Victorias Secret.

GumFossil · 01/12/2025 12:28

I think mine is about 2 years old and from John Lewis. I replace them usually every 2 years or so, although the current one is still very plush despite being washed weekly.

9 years old. Bought as a replacement following an ‘accident’ when I was violently ill with norovirus whilst wearing my old dressing gown 😐

Sailininthechoppa · 01/12/2025 12:35

My white towelling one is about 25yrs old. It's a thick hotel quality one as I used to work for a company that supplied them.

Cosy fleece primark dressing gown is 10yrs old.

Mylobsterteapot · 01/12/2025 12:39

Less than a week old. I bought myself a new dressing gown, fluffy socks and PJs for a day procedure under general anaesthetic and the recovery time at home.

It's been lovely to be so cozy.

patooties · 01/12/2025 12:52

I’ve only recently stopped wearing DH’s burgundy towelling m and s number that he’s had since he was a teenager. He’s now 50.

I have one I got when dc1 was born (she’s 31) one my sister bought me about 10 years ago and I treated myself to one last year from White company sale.

CharlotteFlax · 01/12/2025 12:54

My favourite is 19 years old and was given to me by my mum when I was pregnant with my first. I love it, it washes well and is still just as comforting as it was when it was new.

i got another dressing gown about 16 years ago which I still class as new but it's not as thick and cosy as the OG gown. Both were from Tesco.

Itsnotallalark · 01/12/2025 12:55

Over 20 years old. It's a size 20 bought for me by my son when he was 13. I was a size 12 at the time!

StrangePaint · 01/12/2025 12:59

Christmas 2020, a present from DH, but I plan to wear it indefinitely. A gorgeous reversible cashmere and silk one from Shibumi.

RedRiverShore5 · 01/12/2025 13:04

I bought one with highland cows on from Next sale about a year or so ago.

Summerhillsquare · 01/12/2025 13:07

My winter one is only a couple of years. But I still have one I bought at C&A 30 odd years ago! A nice satiny wrap.

isitmytime · 01/12/2025 13:10

Mine is about 8 years old from new look. I bloody love it but it’s looking a bit worse for wear, and it’s had a lot of wear over the years so I’ve asked for a new one for Christmas. This time I’d like a floor length one so fingers crossed I get it
