Some are head to toe brown. Some are half brown, half beige.

What a boring trend indeed!

God I remember this from the first time round-maybe 1999? I looked like a KitKat. Not doing it again

Lol, no. First time round would have been the 70's when absolutely everything was brown (or orange). My mum had spectacular brown flares.

purplecorkheart · 25/11/2025 14:48

Brown is one colour that I cannot carry off. I think it can be quite stylist on some people and a bit drab on others.

Ineedanewsofa · 25/11/2025 14:48

I have a full length brown puffa coat from Barbour that comes out every winter, it’s incredibly warm and like wearing a duvet. When I bought it a few years ago it was heavily discounted because no one wanted anything brown, so let me have a season of feeling smug that I’m accidentally on trend! Even if DH does call me Mr Hanky when I wear it…

My school uniform was brown, with yellow accents, horrible.
I'm embracing the berry colours atm, got a nice wine velvet coat.

I've just - literally half an hour ago - had a wine velvet coat delivered from White Stuff! Just debating whether to keep it or not as it doesn't seem very thick / warm although I do love the colour and style....

Where is yours from??

I have awful photos of me in the 70s wearing lots of brown and orange. I think the worst was a pair of brown flares with 4 inch turn ups that were in a brown and orange checked design. Truly hideous

LittleBitofBread · 25/11/2025 14:53

Didn't know brown was 'in'.
I'm actually wearing a brown cardie today, but I've had it for about 15 years. I like it mostly because it's alpaca and wool, long, so it keeps my legs cosy when I'm sitting at my desk, and very warm.
I did recently buy some dark brown joggers; needed another pair and already have grey and navy, didn't want a bright colour or white, so it seemed a good option.

manicpixieschemegirl · 25/11/2025 14:54

Brown is definitely having a moment but most of the people I’ve noticed following this trend are still wearing the ubiquitous leggings and puffer jacket type outfits, just in various shades of poo.

Not that brown can’t look good, but it’s fascinating how quickly and easily influenced some people are by the new ‘in’ thing.

Enough4me · 25/11/2025 14:55

Better than grey scale though.
I like the burgundy brown that seems popular over a grey brown.

Evergreen21 · 25/11/2025 14:55

It's not for you but it's a great colour for me and others. With my colouring and jet black hair it's a lot less harsh than actual black (which I do still wear)just not head to toe. It can be made interesting by playing with different textures and tones.

White Stuff!
Agree, it's not really warm, but I wanted a smarter non-anorak type of coat. I sized up so can wear a jumper or cardi underneath.
My cold weather coat is a puffer I got from m&s last year, but feels too casual for going out.

RachelFanshawe · 25/11/2025 14:56

Dont wear it then? Maybe?

I love brown. It suits my colouring.

I don't remember this. We wore lots of colour in the 70s and 80s and scoured 2nd hand shops. Wore lots of velvet in all sorts of colours. Different coloured tops, etc. It was like we all had individual tastes. I just don't see it anymore but I think there's not really much choice out there.

AlltheHedgehogsontheWall · 25/11/2025 15:06

I prefer brown and beige to the endless black, black, black. So many people in jeans and a black puffer jacket everywhere you look, like they've all been cloned. You'd have thought in the coldest, greyest month of the year, people would want to inject some colour into things.

RaraRachael · 25/11/2025 15:08

@Terrribletwos I just wore what my mother bought for me. None of it was my choice but I wouldn't have dared tell her I didn't like any of it.

BB49 · 25/11/2025 15:09

Does anyone remember the old Brownies uniform? All sludgy brown with a yellow necktie. That's what brown reminds me of. I always think the colour looks best on brunettes starring in chocolate adverts.

Nandina · 25/11/2025 15:11

I'd like a nice brown winter coat.

Beamur · 25/11/2025 15:13

I have just bought a gorgeous short brown fake fur coat. I look like a teddy bear 😄
The rest of my clothes will remain mostly navy blue though. No flesh tones will be worn on any part of my body and most definitely no leggings.

RaraRachael · 25/11/2025 15:18

Yes @BB49 I remember that Brownies uniform. Mine was like a dark brown dress with a bobble hat in the same shade.
We used to call it poopy brown but I suppose chocolate brown sounds better 😅.
Still hate it though.

Aw really? My mother was pretty strict (that's something else) but I do remember having free rein to wear what we wanted. And it was full on! It went from psychedelic to granny stuff and then punk! It changed a lot!

I had some flared trousers that were brown at the top, and below the knee they were orange! Think they were called Loons.
My mum had a brown suede waistcoat with long fringe at the bottom, she was a total hippy. Also we had matching Astrakan coats a la Daisy and the six. Wait long enough and all fashion comes around again.

Ah, I remember some of those astrakan coats. Absolutely hated them. Never thought they looked good. They didn't look good and some of them absolutely stunk!

Myblueclematis · 25/11/2025 15:33

I don't wear brown as I don't like it and don't think it's a colour that suits me, I do have a pair of brown fur lined casual ankle boots though.

I have jackets I wear in teal, navy, purple and maroon when I go out so don't think I fall into the brown//beige bracket.

My friend wears a lot of brown and beige/cream and it really suits her.

I just Googled, they weren't Astrakhan (apparently that is lambs skin 😟) they were brown (obvs) mock suede with furry fluffy edges with a sort of brocade and toggle fastenings. Very cosy in cold weather. Saw something similar in New Look recently.

No, I actually am that old and do remember when the original ones came over the old silk road.,..and they stunk.

UpMyself · 25/11/2025 15:40

They were Afghan coats.
