Some are head to toe brown. Some are half brown, half beige.

What a boring trend indeed!

Everywhere seems a bit anti stylish atm and I would say for the last few years, at least.

It's very rare nowadays one sees men or women dressed stylishly (and I don't mean by what fashion dictates), it all seems to be communist style clothing, no individuality.

I don’t think it’s our fault tbh. Most of winter jackets are black/ grey/ brown / navy , well burgundy this year but its a dark colour as well. And don’t even start me on hats.

The cheap items don’t look nice. The expensive items are too expensive and still don’t look nice ☹️

Catwalking · 25/11/2025 15:59

I’m in reds, greens, purples, gold/rust & greys.
But i never follow fashion 😆.

Well it's 2025 and at last women are allowed to wear what they want, men can't force them not to anymore in the UK! But women are allowed to slag them off and criticise their free choice to wear brown clothes. Women will never win! If I wear a rainbow outfit I'm garish, brown I'm boring, short I'm a slut, long I'm a prude. If I have filler I'm ugly, if I have wrinkles I'm ugly. If my hair goes grey I'm old, if I dye it brown I'm trying top hard to not look old.

When oh when will mumsnet return to what it used to be- a place to talk about women and mothers in positive and constructive ways? Where style and beauty was for talking about which handbag to pair with these shoes, or where can I get the dress someone wore on Corrie? Instead every other thread is "This outfit is hideous, pile on the women who wear it"

MN certainly wasn't all sunshine and kittens when I first joined about 19 years ago. There was plenty of slagging off--starting threads about people in other threads, dissecting slebs and their clothes, mocking other posters' clothing and style preferences.

OP said everyone. She never mentioned women specifically.

Both my sons seem to like earthy shades. One of them has about 20 jackets all in a slightly different shade of brown.

Livingthedream1978 · 25/11/2025 16:20

As an autumn I’ve been wearing those colours for years (with a splash of deep reds, oranges and green) so I’m finally in fashion 🤣🤣

Not that I really care as my style is always very classic… it’s just nice to have more choice.

Anouken · 25/11/2025 16:23

Brown can be more flattering than black on a mature skin. Black can look draining, especially on blonds and redheads.

Hmm a bit of an OTT reaction. Do you come on style & beauty often?

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/11/2025 16:29

I love dark brown, it really suits my colouring. Also I’ll wear what I want!

pigmygoatsinjumpers · 25/11/2025 16:43

Terrribletwos · 25/11/2025 15:40

No, I actually am that old and do remember when the original ones came over the old silk road.,..and they stunk.

I remember these - a grubby light beige suede with shaggy matted wool around the edges, sometimes with embroidery on them and they did smell. I didn't have one but I did have a brown suede waistcoat with fringes round the bottom. Oh to be 17 again.

Tarkan · 25/11/2025 16:43

I got a lovely brown top from M&S last year so I’m glad it’ll be “in” when I wear it again this year. Tbh all I see here right now is leopard print and I look like Pat Butcher when I attempt it so I like having something else that feels nice that won’t look dated.

JassyRadlett · 25/11/2025 16:52

I think brown happens very five years or so like this - I notice it as there are hardly any shades of brown I can't wear without risk of being carted off to the mortuary.

it's a shame as I think when done well it can look really stylish.

Pigeon123456 · 25/11/2025 17:15

I have never really worn brown until this year, but I am now in my brown era having bought a beautiful tan suedette mini skirt from M&S and a fabulous camel wool coat from Vinted. Still not into chocolate brown though.

FastTurtle · 25/11/2025 17:16

It’s better than head to toe black.

henlake7 · 25/11/2025 17:20

I love it. I tend to dress fairly colourfully alot of the time but brown is my neutral of choice, it suits me more then black or grey.
I clearly live in a very unfashionable area though coz it's all black leggings with black puffer coats round here.

RampantIvy · 25/11/2025 17:22

I don't think any particular colour should be a fashion statement.

It's clear from this thread that not all colours suit everyone, and fashion houses dictating that everyone should wear brown or whatever colour isn't going to work.

I suit jewel colours. Brown, olive green and beige don't suit me but they suit DD so, I don't wear them and DD does.

Wearing the right colour for you is far more stylish than slavishly following what colour the fashion magazines say is in.

CharlotteCChapel · 25/11/2025 17:41

I quite like the richer browns but hate beige with a passion. Years ago I was catching the train. To work and there was a woman who wore beige from head to toe all year. She looked sad.

Floisme · 25/11/2025 17:49

Pah, we must have had 20 years of grey dominance. Sorry not sorry but now it’s our turn.

BigSkies2022 · 25/11/2025 17:51

I love the browns- so much so that I started wearing them in the 80’s. They also suit my colouring.

Abra1t · 25/11/2025 17:53

The White Company clothing range is all beige and brown. It doesn't do it for me--looks drab.

PigeonsandSquirrels · 25/11/2025 17:57

I love brown. It’s a warm cosy colour like chocolate and coffee.

Illegally18 · 25/11/2025 18:01

DeQuin · 25/11/2025 13:57

purple and grey here ... can't stand brown.

I love brown. Purple and grey as well

theresnolimits · 25/11/2025 18:03

Thank goodness I say. How many years has it been black and grey which look terrible on my blond, blue eyed, pale skin. Brown warms up my whole complexion and goes so well with berry, green, turquoise. As for beige, again I find it really flattering on an older skin. Hurrah for brown and I am stocking up before the inevitable return of the black.

Livpool · 25/11/2025 18:05

I agree OP - I never wear brown - a brown and yellow school uniform scarred me

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/11/2025 18:10

I’m road testing brown this year, I was always a black wearer before. It works better as you get older I think. I’m wearing brown with pink today and loving it.
