I'll bury my in-law comment on this thread. The PIL are the worst combination of snobby and in a small world.
MIL looked me up and down and asked if the dog had been sleeping on my outfit. - Gia shirt, wool tank, Jude trousers since the effect was apparently identical to the mutt's strawberry thief velvety blanket.
I've not been good enough for 30.years so it's never going to change.

Happy New Year to all. A wet one here.

Re the binding check skirt - it has a large hem if you are tall and would let down well.

I’m all done with sale. Nothing else I want. But I do enjoy reading about all your successes or otherwise.

Thanks in advance for the new thread @IlovePond .

ScallopShellWalk · 01/01/2026 10:50

@TosstTastic and is she a guest in your house? Or you in hers? Thats not very gracious of her. Recently I have discovered that I will enjoy what I want to wear regardless of others opinions. This began with negative responses when I asked an opinion on a hiking dress. Then maybe a grin even when I didn’t on a Freya dress which I love. It’s a little hurtful but that was when I realised it’s me who likes wearing the clothes. So I’m not asking anymore or bothering over grins and a comment like you received is unnecessary, likely passive aggressive and maybe trying to make you submit to her. Sorry you had this on New Year’s Day but I think your outfit sounds nice and I’m going to wear the toast kantha pinafore which you influenced me on 😊

ScottishMouse · 01/01/2026 10:54

Bloody in-laws @TosstTastic, that is just rude. She clearly doesn’t know what excellent taste when she sees it.
My own mother once commented to my sister after I had been there, “I don’t know why Scottish Mouse dresses like a nun”!!! I was wearing a long denim pinafore dress from a few seasons ago with a black Cleo tee underneath. 🤷‍♀️

TosstTastic · 01/01/2026 11:06

MIL has got rather clumsy with her digs in the last few years.
And a younger me would have tied herself in knots 'maybe she has a point' or 'think the best'.
I kind of like her really going for it, leaves no room for doubt.
My girls, 20 & 18, heard so it was perfect for the post extended family meet up debrief!

TosstTastic · 01/01/2026 11:09

Does anyone remember the classic 'what I think I look like what I actually do' thread. It peaked with someone in what they thought was an edgy All Saints leather jacket, saw a photo, and it looked like Suzi Quattros aged, fat aunt.
I was going for a Lee Miller/ Katherine Hepburn, country house, athletic, country house stay vibe. MIL saw a B&M, knock off Morris print.

faustina · 01/01/2026 11:12

Happy New Year to all with the exception of @TosstTastic 's MIL who can do one. My rule is you only ever compliment someone on their clothes, appearance, achievements etc. Anything else and it says a lot more about you than the person you're trying to put down.

I am done with what's left of the sale, but looking forward to a restock and new additions

@oddandelsewhere thank you for the House of Bruar cardigan tip. They're currently haunting me on Instagram and I've noticed they do a quite nice donegal roll neck jumper too.

@Snowyowl78 😁

@BettinaInDenmark is that the binding check skirt?

Another brand I like is &daughter - admittedly I only have one dress from them but I wear all year round. Long, thick linen, beautiful shape and made in England!

@mizu No, I think they call it the painted tweed cotton linen skirt. I liked how it looked together with the sleeveles painted tweed top and also the green cotton linen long sleeve top/smock.

Hello!!
Think I posted on an old thread!
Anyway, Happy NewYear to everyone :)
Just posting for some help!
Has anyone got/ bought the Botanical print dress?
I'm a solid 14 and ordered the large. Would it be better in a medium? The reviews are a bit mixed! Thanks!

ThePieceHall · 02/01/2026 12:50

Wasn’t there someone on these threads a couple of years ago who was stared at by a child and the mother told said child off for disrespecting a nun?!

I bought and returned it in the sale. I think it is rather on the large size. Felt swamped.

neveradullmoment99 · 03/01/2026 08:04

That's good to know! Thanks so much for your reply. I have ordered the medium as well. My only worry was across the chest, size wise really!

That’s hilarious, I don’t think I’m ever going to feel the same in my ‘pared down’ Toast outfits 😂

ToastCosILoveIt · 22/05/2026 08:05

I can’t remember who wanted this and in what size and colour but it’s in Vinted at the moment.
