Still no dispatch note for the order I placed on Christmas Eve 🤷‍♀️ Meanwhile, the one I placed this morning and paid for express Royal Mail delivery looks like it will arrive tomorrow. I’m very unlikely to keep the items in the order from last week at this stage, I should probably just see if it can be cancelled.

Countmeout · 29/12/2025 20:02

I hope it works for you too @mizu .

@oddandelsewhere I ordered the red fig. What about you?

faustina · 29/12/2025 20:17

@Saurus72 - I had a google and it looks lovely - fingers crossed you find one in Cambridge

Got my final despatch email today for the brass tees - I'm very relieved! It was my third order which I made on the 23rd so I guess things had started to get busy for them by then.

I wonder when they'll add more things and/or further reductions?

ScallopShellWalk · 29/12/2025 20:24

I have just received a dispatch note for the troentorp nubuck closed clogs that I ordered last Tuesday (23rd). I also ordered the hand framed stripe tank on the Wednesday but haven’t heard anything more on that.
I’ve been trying not to buy too much as I bought a lot around Sept to November.
It’s almost strange, as there were so many things that I liked that I have now got sick of looking at online. I still like what I have and have little occasion really to wear much so buying more is not the answer but I’m still looking 🧐. Really I need to stop looking at what I don’t have and enjoy what I do have.
Even today I was looking through last winters threads and got caught up in wanting the kantha pinafore dress. It looks lovely and if I thought it would fit I’d likely want to buy it but the price on resale sites is a bit too high for something that might not fit well and I can’t return (my back isn’t long and the straps may not fit well). I like it though, even though I don’t need it and may not wear it much as I like my legs being warm in trousers around the house. Maybe I’m just bored.

TosstTastic · 29/12/2025 20:36

I don't want to stoke the kantha pinafore desire @ScallopShellWalk but I'm still wearing mine. Moved the buttons, still look like Mrs Pepperpot.
I was tempted by the yellow quilted skirt which would give you a similar cocooned feeling.

I won't be wearing the Kantha for business but I do love it in a domestic situation, so it's a dressing gown, casual wear kind of thing for me.

Have had prompt despatch from early orders. Loving some trousers, conflicted about the striped tank since I already have a similar item. Waiting a silk scarf for a sleek cafe look from a 2004 style, which sadly my aging jowls may not manage to pull off.

VivienneDelacroix · 29/12/2025 21:10

The setsuits you so beautifully @Countmeout . Sadly I'm sending my set back, it sits oddly on me and gives quite matronly vibes, rather than the lovely effortless flow it has on you.

I'm also sending back the wool/cashmere dress. I wanted to love it, but it hangs from my boobs like a sack.

I am keeping the collared cardigan I ordered and a pair of socks (I'm always a sucker for socks).

Like you @ScallopShellWalk I keep looking again, but I'm not feeling much joy.

ScallopShellWalk · 29/12/2025 21:15

@TosstTastic it was your photo and posts last winter that had me very interested in the kantha pinafore. Whilst looking at it on a resale site I used the option to “see it on” with AI on a photo of me and drat, that kind of made me want it more but of course it’s not really going to look that good on me. Do you wear trousers under it or tights? Maybe I should just stick with woollens and leggings/jeans but it does look nice. If it was selling for under £100 I’d be happier to take a chance but my size 10 is selling at £160, I think that was the sale price. I’m not so keen on that when I can’t return it. But it won’t let me go. I am glad ur still wearing it though. It looked great on you.

I’m pretty sure there were a couple of kantha pinafores in the Llandeilo outlet today. Didn’t look at sizes or price but the staff there are lovely and would check for you. It might be worth asking what the policy is now as in the past I’ve bought a past season coat from Shepton Mallet over the phone and returned to my nearest physical store when it didn’t fit.

TosstTastic · 29/12/2025 21:42

Does that make me an influencer @ScallopShellWalk , brilliant.

So it hangs on a peg with a heavy weight denim kimono and a toast cream cotton dressing gown.
This last fortnight and some weekends the Kantha is my go to.
I've worn it over Toast kimono PJ's for pottering with just family. It gives it a slight bloomer feel, cook a bacon sandwich, empty the dishwasher.

Over leggings and a jumper, I ash out the fire, make a Jamie Oliver get ahead thing. Housework.

Chuck a Finisterre fleece over it and I venture to the supermarket but I'm quite random so local friends don't publicly judge.

I've washed it on a wool cycle and it's not suffered. I've added the odd bit of additional stitching in an alternative thread colour but I kind of think that's in the repair spirit.

ScallopShellWalk · 29/12/2025 22:11

@alliscalm thank you that is a great idea. I will find out how to contact them. 😊
@TosstTastic yes an influencer 😁 what you say about how you use it has been really interesting for me. That is how I would like to use it. I have 2 dogs also so the dark colour would work and why the turmeric skirt wouldn’t really stay yellow very long. I’m keen to pursue.

I recall @ToastCosILoveIt , you mentioned you tried a 10 and 12 on in the kantha pinafore and didn’t see much difference. I’m expecting a 10 would be my size, I’ve no hips or bust to talk of but sadly just now my waistline is no longer an 8, working on it tho. I’m thinking it’d be a mistake to consider a 12 but the sizings are not what I normally expect anyway.
it is nice. Hmmm

ScallopShellWalk · 29/12/2025 22:21

@alliscalm i have sent an email to start things off but I may call if I don’t hear back. I’ve emailed a shop before, with no response, so I’m not sure that’s a good way to make contact. Thank you for your help. 😊

oddandelsewhere · 29/12/2025 23:59

@Countmeout I ordered the red fig too. I'm hoping for a rusty red, but I sort of remember reviews saying it was a kind of tan which I definitely wouldn't keep. I have the navy one which I love, and have worn nearly to extinction so I would really like one in another colour.

ToastCosILoveIt · 30/12/2025 00:05

@ScallopShellWalk , you have a good memory! Yes, I am absolutely a size 12 but ended up keeping the 10 and sending the 12 back. You have made me think of it, will wear it tomorrow :)

Countmeout · 30/12/2025 08:36

@VivienneDelacroix I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. I think I could descend into matronly in it , I tried it with a polo and cardigan and it didn’t give the same vibe. It may be destined to be worn as a set and I’ll have to be careful with footwear.

@oddandelsewhere mine isn’t due until tomorrow. I have a niggle in the back of my mind that I tried it before and it wasn’t the colour I expected never mind not nailing the fit. Not very optimistic about it.

OftenOrange · 30/12/2025 09:55

@ScallopShellWalk Your post made me smile , especially the bit about ‘stop looking at what you don’t have and enjoy what you do’
Absolutely , with me the sale is honestly FOMO , it’s an opportunity to get a bargain but really the items that give me most use are those bought out of a sale.

ScottishMouse · 30/12/2025 10:09

I agree @OftenOrange. If I see something early in the season that I really love and know I will wear lots, I will buy it full price. I rarely wait for the sale in those cases, and usually my best sale buys have been socks, nightwear & homeware (in the good old days when there was more than a handful of homeware items that made it to sale). I also seem to order in the sale items that I have dithered over, or have ordered and tried and returned for whatever reason - it’s like a last chance to double check they weren’t worth buying first time. Inevitably, I mostly send these back and should learn to trust my first instinct more. My most loved Toast items have been bought at full price over the years, or bought on resale sites to replace a well worn/now too small version that was bought full price in the past.
But do I remember all this when the sale email lands…never!!

ScallopShellWalk · 30/12/2025 10:22

@OftenOrange i agree that items bought out of sale have likely more use or at least be bought with more intention. For me, if I really think over some item enough and I see its place, then it’s more likely to get use and I’d also be willing to pay full price for this or at least hunt till I found it reduced. But when panic is injected in a sale I find myself needing a purchase and I’m not even sure I know why. I’d prefer if toast had a permanent sale section then people might not buy with haste and later send so much back.

ScallopShellWalk · 30/12/2025 10:33

@ScottishMouse I agree about buying in the sale things I earlier dithered or rejected. Online I liked the green pintuck dress a lot and tried it on in the shop. I didn’t feel good in it. I felt like I was in a nightie. But now it’s in the sale I have wanted to order it a few times and had to remind myself I rejected it earlier. 🙄what’s that all about? It’s not like I’ve forgotten.

Well, I realised I really really wanted a pair of trousers I saw yesterday (Jude wool check) so I drove back to Llandeilo this morning ( three-hour round trip) to get them. I checked, there were three pinafores, a 6, a 10 and I think a 14. Price tag said £170. It’s better to ring I think, they seemed to have had a big delivery.

ScallopShellWalk · 30/12/2025 13:58

@alliscalm
im glad you got your trousers. That’s fab. I bet you’ll get lots of enjoyment from them. Thank you so much for checking the pinafore. I will call them. 🥰

ScallopShellWalk · 30/12/2025 14:07

@alliscalm thank you. I called and have bought a size 10 to be posted out. 🤗🤗🤗 exciting.

ScallopShellWalk · 30/12/2025 14:41

@alliscalm I just had a wee search for the Jude wool check trousers. They look really lovely. I can see why they stayed with you. I fairly recently bought wool broken herringbone trousers and I wear them a lot when out. Wool trousers I find cosy and comfy. I hope you enjoy yours.

oddandelsewhere · 30/12/2025 16:27

@Countmeout well my jumper arrived but it is absolutely not for me. I haven't even unfolded it. The colour is definitely a bit muddy, and looks a bit agricultural if that makes sense. (We have lived here at the back of beyond for 10 years and I have never once gone for a walk!!) I really hope that I like the gathered neck striped smock better if it ever arrives. Although I have taken the precaution of ordering an actually red cashmere cardigan from House of Bruar as a consolation.

Countmeout · 30/12/2025 16:47

I know the colour you mean @oddandelsewhere . Farms use it to paint metal things sometimes. Oh well I’ll just be keeping the socks by the sound of it then. Better for my wallet!

I would normally swerve trousers like that… too ‘out there’ and potentially unflattering. But I’ve worked hard at healthy eating and exercise this year and though not sylph-like by any means I thought I’d give them a go. My husband said they looked stylish - rare for him to comment at all. Hope you love the pinafore!
