Trainers for autumn/winter

What’s on your target list? What colour/style?

I’m very aware my barefoot in Birkenstock days are numbered and my trainers are too “summer”. I have white Nike AF1 (yeah yeah I know but they’re comfy), pale blue Nike running shoes and light turquoise adidas (can’t remember the style but not samba or gazelle, but similar)
Theyre not going to work with my winter clothes (dark neutrals like most ), so what colour trainers should I look at? I’m at a blank! Oh -I can’t wear Adidas gazelles

I’ve just got some black New balance. Love them

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 22/09/2025 18:18

Not trainers but have you seen the Birkenstock Mary Jane style shoes?!

TheScottishPlay · 22/09/2025 18:24

I have black and khaki New Balance 327s. Comfiest trainers I've ever had.

Hoppinggreen · 22/09/2025 18:26

I have got burgundy trainers (look like NB) from Sainsburys
Burgundy Ugg clogs
Dark brown leather Moda in Pele trainers

I’ve just ordered these: https://www.ugg.com/uk/lowmel-lthr-trainer/1171537.html

I've just got black leather Fitflop Rally with white soles. They're not at all cutting edge, but I can see myself getting a lot of wear out of them.

Greenwriter76 · 22/09/2025 19:40

Not strictly trainers but I just got these (in a different colour) - thought they’d be good for wet weather. Rieker are a new discovery for me and I like them.

If they fit they could be a possible, and a good colour way for winter.
The Birkenstock Mary Janes look like they’d be really comfy but style wise they’re not me at all

I've got these Gola's. The green matches a few of the olive green jackets I have.
There are plenty of colours available. So far they are comfortable.

Ooh these are going straight on my birthday list! 😍

Lovemycat2023 · 22/09/2025 20:55

I’ve just got some leopard print ones from Next. You can’t see a lot of the trainer under my wide leg trousers / jeans so I like the idea of these.

I really want these ones - adidas campus:

https://www.adidas.co.uk/campus-00s-shoes/JI4395.html

I love the chunky skate style. But, at 45+, am I too old for them?!? I don't want to look like I'm trying to compete with teenagers!

Edit: the link says Kids shoes but I tried the exact same pair on in size 5 in a shop and they fitted (and were super comfy!)

LemonTT · 22/09/2025 23:46

I’m considering

  1. adidas handball spezial - although Adidas soles don’t have the best grip for winter.
  2. Onitsuka tiger Mexico 66
  3. Gola.

I don’t think there are any “too old” rules with trainers+you like them, you wear them!

I’ve got the Campus in black and in grey on white, I’m planning on getting the denim blue too. I’m 62.

God, I'm about to buy some Campus in pale blue, and I'm a hell of lot older than 45!

Agree with others who've said that NB327s are the comfiest trainers. Have several pairs, and they are my go to for walking holidays. Not sure they're the best 'winter trainer' though?

Ryeman · 23/09/2025 11:01

Probably showing my age but M&S do some nice trainers in darker colours. Look at Hoff as well.

Meant to add I bought the kids ones in size 5 - much cheaper if you are in that size range.
