IF YOU ARE NEW TO BEAUTY ADVENT CALENDARS AND WOULD LIKE IDEAS PLEASE READ THE THREAD FIRST

Annual Style and Beauty Advent Calendar discussion thread. First AC reveal this year was 23rd June. First luxury reveal was 2nd July.

Thread 1: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5360770-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion

Thread 2: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5388836-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion-spoilers-thread-2

The regulars on the thread mainly discuss luxury BAC and this dies down by September when everyone has purchased and forgotten the contents. Then it goes into discussion on what’s selling out, what hasn’t and what deals and discounts to be had on ACs in the lead up to December. Then in December we move onto AC opening threads!

There’s a separate thread for GWP, discounts and other deals here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5389635-beauty-chat-freebiesgifts-with-purchaseoffers-thread-four

A thread for the Liberty Beauty Drop here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5253698-liberty-beauty-drop-spoiler-from-the-despatch-date-part-9

MN has a great Christmas board for deals and early gift buying here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas

Apparently spacenk have a gwp coming soon. Do we think it will stack with the calender?

Puravida23 · 12/09/2025 12:44

@AlPaccacino you look gorgeous. I have been lusting after the hourglass palette but I really can't justify it with all my recent purchases

Roundaboot · 12/09/2025 13:13

@AlPaccacino so pretty! Your skin is gorgeous.

And this is what it looks like on. And yes I did use it on my eyes as well.

Your skin looks amazing

I tried the Matiere Vanilla Poudre yesterday. Nice, slightly coconut with light wood underneath. However, it lasts. I put it on around 2ish yesterday, went out in the evening, had full shower, washed hair etc. And I can still smell it clearly. I don't think it projects much but considering how many times I've washed hands also it's ridiculous.

This is one of my favourite scents, Jo Malone ginger biscuit is another. I think for me they are definitely winter fragrances.

I agree that M&S is really disappointing. It used to be easily the best value option, an affordable price point but including a good mix of full size and mini products that made it feel both fun and worthwhile. It was pretty much a no-brainer - often two or three full sized items covered the whole cost. While most of the rest have upped their game since, M&S have increased price without also increasing or even (if today’s money terms) retaining value.

Here is a quick comparison for those who like the numbers and stats:

In 2019 M&S cost £40, with a minimum spend of £30. Contents were “worth” £300
In 2019 Liberty cost £215, and contents were worth £600.

This year:
M&S costs £60, contents “worth” £330. So price has gone up 50% (and there is still a minimum spend on top), but value of contents is only up 10% Taking into account inflation, you’re getting rather less than you were in 2019.
Liberty costs £250 (BD)/ or £275 and is “worth” over £1200. So cost up 16% at the BD members price, but value has doubled.

Growlybear83 · 12/09/2025 13:32

I had the M&S calendar two years ago and was SO disappointed with it. It didn’t appeal last year and looks even worse this year. I’ve just looked and the H&B calendar for the first time and I’m really impressed with it. I’m very tempted.

The Elemis 12 days calendar £125 exclusive to JL is live. I'm very tempted by this but feel I should wait for bundle QVC do in Oct/Nov time. Mainly because I'd prefer a larger pot of day cream rather than the night cream.

If you like Elemis and don't mind the rose scents it's better than the more expensive Elemis calendar.

Thanks for that, I have ordered as I really would like the night cream and I love the rose scent. 🥰
Just waiting to see if they do the candle advent this year. My DS loves a scented candle, so it would be a great gift.

owlpassport · 12/09/2025 13:47

Ugh LIB are going with the 'accidental' release marketing. It's so fake.

greenold · 12/09/2025 13:58

My boots 24 days of skincare was delivered today, and I've promptly gone through it and taken out what I want and added in quite a bit to my teen DD's calendar. I think this is actually phenomenal value, most sizes are big, there's almost nothing that feels like a stingy advent 'full size'. The box is sturdy and will be useful to repurpose - it's festive but doesn't scream Christmas so should be useful for storing things.

I treated this (in my mind) as a beauty box not an advent, and I think it's really good for £70. I don't see it mentioned here much, clearly it's not as luxe as many, and is only for those who like skincare as that's all it has, but I'm delighted with it!

Caggie09 · 12/09/2025 14:17

Just opened my SNK delivery. I love the colours, its very pretty. Have to admit compared to CB, the overall calendar feels very flimsy. CB seems to be more sturdy.

BlueLimes · 12/09/2025 14:17

@AlPaccacino i now want to buy one 😊
@greenold might want boots too !!

I agree. The only DoDs for me are the pimple patches and the fake tan (so 8% DoD) whereas most of the others ranged from 20% to 50% DoD.

Twinsandsome · 12/09/2025 14:31

@AlPaccacino you look beautiful. Your skin is so nice and glowing without shiny x

Caggie09 · 12/09/2025 13:53

Tatcha have done a 12 day advent. For £200 id rather just buy a few of my own bits.

Oh my!! That box is beautiful with the foxy looking dog 😍 I'm not fussed about the contents 🤣 here's my foxy little Lady 🩷

The colours are really pretty and I like the foil effect too making it all shiny 😍 I think it's prettier irl then on the photos. The boxes are flimsy though. I also have the Harrods one and the SNK cost £10 more but the Harrods box is a lot more solid.

Caggie09 · 12/09/2025 14:43

@JoRaRaRa Oh how cute!!
Im going to keep my Harrods one, going to use it for storing random bits. But the other 2 ill just recycle or give away when its empty. I have sold them in the past just cba with the faff of it all now.

Someone else said that they use theirs to store all their really fancy baubles that they don't want smashing, so I'm going to do that this year. I'm a bit ashamed to say that my harrods 2024 calendar is still sat in front of the TV stand from last year 🙈🤣 I might as well keep it out now 🤣

Nearlyadoctor · 12/09/2025 15:04

@OvaHere - interested you think it’s better value as was procrastinating between the 2 having seen the 12 day one at Centreparks spa this week. I’ve only ever used the night cream which I love and is in the 12 day one but I know I feel a bit sold short unless I buy something else for the other 12 days 😂

OnionBag · 12/09/2025 15:44

DD’s Boots beauty stars AC arrived today and it is beautiful. She’s a teen so I took 8 products out that I will use and I’ll replace them with more age appropriate products.
I would definitely recommend it.

AprilLady · 12/09/2025 15:50

@Nearlyadoctor I think the full 24 day one on the Elemis site is actually pretty good value as far as single brand advent calendars go. And if you’d like to try lots of Elemis products, it would be a good option. I had one quite a few years ago - one of the things I remember is the box was really lovely and sturdy. No idea if that is still the case, but it made it feel very high quality.

Theresalotgoingon · 12/09/2025 15:50

Please could someone remind me of the Glossybox discount code? Thank you!

CorneliaStreet · 12/09/2025 15:57

Stop it @greenold 😂 I had talked myself out of the Boots skincare due to stash overload issues, but now I want it again!
