I’ll start…

Belstaff Fieldmaster jacket - it’s heavy, I do not like the feeling of waxed jacket much, the belt just gets in the way, and I should have sized up…

Nude leather court heels, JL own brand - beautifully made but the heels are so high, they look out of place at work.

Black patent penny loafers, also JL - they are perfect in every way, but I just feel frumpy in them.

Tan coloured cropped coat from M&S, the colour doe suit me. Resolved to wear it out this winter and only buy tan in accessories.

Blue Mac type coat that reminded me of my nan from M&S. Gave it to the charity shops

Zara jeans, I bought them on a bad body confidence day. Donated.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/08/2025 17:44

Rains tote bag. It looks great but has no structure to it and flops about.

white New Balance leather trainers- really uncomfortable

Sweaty Betty rucksack - looks great but it hasn’t got enough pockets

slowraindrop · 31/08/2025 17:45

A Wrap over unlined wool jacket I paid what felt like a lot of money for in a boutique in London as a young graduate. It was fiddly to fasten and scratchy, and the arms were too long. There was something really lovely about it though, and I held onto it until a couple of years ago. Think I wore it maybe three times.

FurForksSake · 31/08/2025 17:50

An expensive pair of white leather trainers, they have a really firm footbed and hurt my feet. I must get them on to vinted.

northface purple winter coat. I bought it when I lost a lot of weight and then it didn’t fit for years. I’ll be able to wear it this winter, but I wish I’d bought it in a more oversized size as it was a couple of hundred pounds and I’ve had very little wear out of it. I had a new joules navy rain coat last winter, it’s a size 14 and I’m now an 8-10 but although it’s a few sizes too big it doesn’t look awful and I can stick layers under it.

FurForksSake · 31/08/2025 17:52

Kanken backpack. I hate it. It’s not comfortable, it’s annoying to open and it singles me out as a certain type of person, in my head anyway. I wish I’d bought a proper outdoor day pack with decent padded straps and decent sized compartments.

ButtercupLane · 31/08/2025 17:53

A gorgeous pair of brown leather over the knee boots. On the online very tall and thin model they looked fabulous.
I looked like a little fat pirate.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/08/2025 17:58

You’ve just reminded me of a very expensive pair of tan, knee high heeled boots. They’re beautiful, but too long for my little legs and too high heeled for anything but a meal out in a taxi. I’m determined to get some wear out of them this autumn by doing exactly that.

MadameBethune · 31/08/2025 18:13

I have just wasted a load of money on Vinted. I got all carried away with autumnal feelings, and chose things that don't suit me, didn't fit me, look outdated, and I will never wear. And I was feeling all pleased with myself just a couple of weeks ago because I cleared out a lot of things for the charity shop, could finally close the wardrobe door properly, and was only keeping things that fit me.
Oh well. Charity shop will benefit from another bagful, and I must not buy anything else unless I am thinking to myself "what I really need is a ...". No browsing.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 31/08/2025 18:18

I'm a size ten. A good, all-round-in-most-shops size ten. But for some reason in my head I'm a big size 12, so I keep buying clothes that are just too big. A lot of the time it's OK and doesn't matter too much, until I see myself in photographs, where I either look as though I'm wearing my mum's clothes, or I look like I got dressed at size 12 and shrank. I bought some quite expensive walking trousers but did that whole 'well, a ten might be too small and I'd like to have room to climb fences and a bit of give' and bought size 12. They make me look like the hind legs of a pantomime elephant.

If only my head and my actual size could come to terms with each other.

FurForksSake · 31/08/2025 18:19

Oh yes, I bought some linen next dresses from vinted, I need to rehome those as they are absolutely not something I’d wear. What I was thinking is beyond me.

Almostwelsh · 31/08/2025 18:20

Anything in Navy blue. Navy blue looks lovely...on other people. It makes me look ill.

A lovely tunic top with flowing sleeves. Totally impractical - the sleeves get in everything and it gets on my nerves.

Laiste · 31/08/2025 18:20

A Hobbs navy trench. Hoping for effortless Parisian style chic.

I look like a sack of spuds with it done up.
Undone it just swings wildly about and flaps open wide as i walk because it's good quality and is heavy .... 🙄

Floisme · 31/08/2025 18:22

I've just re-donated a bagful of charity shop 'bargains':
Monki wide leg jeans - too wide even for me.
Gap chinos - never fitted properly but that Gap label made me feel all nostalgic.
Seasalt T shirt - I think Seasalt are often unfairly maligned on here but not this time. Really odd shape.
Whistles red jersey blazer - I knew at the time it was a bad fit but I was sucked in by the colour.
Uniqlo wide leg cords. This might have been a mistake - I should have probably looked for a replacement first. But they'd gone a bit saggy and I was in a bad mood.

All bought this year.
This is why I'm still resisting Vinted.

Lifelover16 · 31/08/2025 18:24

Long stretchy black suede boots. Looked nice but the very devil to get on. Felt ok for half an hour but after that they constricted my circulation so much I expected to see gangrene in my feet when I took them off.
I put them in the recycling clothing/shoes bin.

thenightsky · 31/08/2025 18:26

95% of all the shoes I've ever owned. Comfy and lovely in the shop. 20 mins walking outside and either my two smallest toes or my bony heels are left skin-free and bleeding. Stupid feet.

I have this as well. I used to be a size 8 and convinced myself I was a 10. Now I am a bigger 10 but buy a 12 and it looks awful. Aghhh

minipie · 31/08/2025 18:28

A Uniqlo raincoat. So unflattering and frumpy that I’d rather get wet.

A navy jumpsuit from Esprit I realised looks like medical scrubs and now I can’t unsee it.

A lovely Ba&sh evening dress that I am too short and wobbly for. Can’t be taken up due to hem detailing. Maybe one of my DDs will be tall.

A white cardigan with bell sleeves. Can’t cook or eat or do virtually anything in it as the sleeves can’t be pushed or rolled up.

Some Anthropologie trousers that I love, but bought when a bit heavier than usual and they are now too big. Maybe they will shrink.

Two Boden linen vests which are lovely colours but too low cut and I spend the whole time readjusting so as not to flash everyone.

SoScarletItWas · 31/08/2025 18:28

Proper vintage 60s Welsh wool cape. I was desperate for one and it was £40 in a vintage clothes shop I wandered into on holiday.

It’s a horrible colour, pinks and purples, not the blue or bottle green one I had in my mind’s eye.

It’s still in the spare bedroom wardrobe as if one day Mr Tumnus will swap it for a green one…

Thortour · 31/08/2025 18:28

Russell anx Bromley over the knee boots. They look good but I just feel like I'm an out of work pirate.

I spent a day this week chopping big sleeves off lots of dresses and putting elastic in them to make them shorter, neater and much more wearable. Very pleased with myself and it should mean I get a lot more wear out of the dresses now.

Not trying to teach grandma to suck eggs, I hope, but have you tried wearing it open but with the belt tied at the back to nip it in a bit?

BlueEyedBogWitch · 31/08/2025 18:42

Cow print wide legged jeans.

I have no idea what the fuck I was thinking.

TwoBeeFrank · 31/08/2025 18:45

I’m resisting trench coats and Mary Jane shoes this autumn, because I’ve bought both items several times in years gone by and I HATE how they look on me.

I will not be tricked again this year!

yes i kept the belt on it and had it tied loosely at the back. It's often windy here though and the coat just fills with air lol
