I’ll start…

Belstaff Fieldmaster jacket - it’s heavy, I do not like the feeling of waxed jacket much, the belt just gets in the way, and I should have sized up…

Nude leather court heels, JL own brand - beautifully made but the heels are so high, they look out of place at work.

Black patent penny loafers, also JL - they are perfect in every way, but I just feel frumpy in them.

Tan coloured cropped coat from M&S, the colour doe suit me. Resolved to wear it out this winter and only buy tan in accessories.

Waaayyy too many but a few stick out

I bought a gorgeous pale pink dress with cream spots

Tried it on and my dp tells me I look like Mr blobby's nanna (I knew i should have got it in the pale blue!)

A lovely raincoat in navy

It arrived and dp informs me his mum has the same one in red (I worship my mil,she makes mary Poppins look like a newborn baby killer, but I do not want to match coats with her)

Beige boots

The seller said they where 'wide fit'

My arse they where-id have struggled to get a matchstick in them

The beige coat

'A winter staple' glamour magazine claimed

I just looked like inspector gadget

In fact anything beige-i just can't carry it off

A gorgeous dress-pale green and cream on vinted

I ordered it and the world's worst bridesmaid dress from the 80's arrived

In fact the 80's would have sent it back

More than one dress that makes me look 9 months pregnant

Hilarious 😆 🤣

A seasalt linen tunic beautiful colour and style but within 5 minutes it became a disgustingly creased potato sack.
I've never worn linen since.

@Chickyhip your lace bloomers reminds me that I briefly had a long distance love affair with Cabbages & Roses. It was long distance for a while then I bought one top and discovered that because it was so individual I needed other Cabbages & Roses “pieces”. This cost me a great deal of money. The result was I looked like an elderly Little Bo Peep who had been out looking for her sheep far too long. In my case I think bloomers were involved too. It’s fucking hard to be taken seriously Tesco or by any of your so-called friends.

Owwmumo1 · 01/09/2025 06:44

When I was young and slim in my 20s I bought a “preppy” top that looked like a shirt with a tank top over it. I really liked it and wore it a few times.
Then Pauline Fowler in Eastenders had the same top on. I couldn’t wear it again after that.

Back in the 80's I bought a soft shetland-style jumper to wear on a date....then deidre on coronation street wore the same one. Never wore it again even though it was lovely....

Pleated skirts, I must of brought 3 , I sold all three on ebay at a loss, they just don't suit me, I just feel dowdy in them, but like the look on others.

I bought a long pleated skirt after seeing a friend looking fabulous in a dusky pink midi one. I looked terrible!

New Balance 327s
Stupid fit and so shallow.

bloody expensive too!!!

JacknDiane · 01/09/2025 08:16

A white stuff heavy cotton jacket that would go with lots of my wardrobe, if only it wasn't too stiff to wear.

My partner does this because he values comfort over style most of the time. Looks like he's had to borrow old trousers off a bigger, taller, scruffier guy.

I've now switched to wearing leggings for walking. More stretch and they don't make me look quite so 'bag lady'. I was going to say tell him to switch to leggings but then I thought that you might not want to be seen out with your DH in leggings either...

WinterRoad · 01/09/2025 09:30

Dr Martens Blair sandals. They kept coming off my feet at the front and flapping around. Falling flat on your face tripping over your flapping DMs does not a cool girl make. I sold them on vinted.

Is anyone else vowing to never buy any form of footwear on Vinted after reading this thread … blisters or other injury seem guaranteed … 😆

Not clothes but my mate had her lounge redecorated

It looked lovely-all black, greys and reds-top of the range fashion for that time and cost her father a fortune

I got a text about a month later saying she was changing the whole lot

'Why???'

'Cos bloody cilla on corrie has the same wallpaper!'

I howled

I once bought a lovely floral dress to go and see only fools and horses the musical in London

It looked gorgeous and I tried it on and showed dp

'You look like a middle aged woman going to a garden party'

Sadly, once I'd looked in the mirror,I realised he was right and went in jeans

Any pencil skirt-i love the slight retro look of them on other ladies

On me,my arse extends to the size of the universe and my legs look like fat tree stumps

Shoes, when younger, lots of them. I have long narrow feet and am tall. The reaction of the average shop assistant to young teenage me asking if they had 7.5 in the only shoes without enormous heels (then fashionable) was to snigger. I used to end up squeezing my feet into poorly fitting cheap shoes, often buying in sales just to find “something”. It taught me to hate shoes and shoe shops with a passion.

My young end millennial DDs, also long and lanky and marginally taller, slightly longer feet went through the same torture as teens. Luckily I had the money to broaden their options so that at least the shops we used had less sniggering by staff when being told their feet were too big. Online shopping was also a boon. Even now, tall women are routinely pointed at the men’s department for trainers despite the fact that men’s feet are a different shape and the shoes don’t fit properly. Their worst buys are also shoes which never really fitted well. All three of us dislike shoes and shoe shopping.

My DSs, also long and lanky with long narrow feet have never had any trouble finding shoes in mainstream shops because apparently men can have long narrow feet and shops expect to hold the stock.

CharlotteCChapel · 01/09/2025 10:31

I bought a dress with a stretch jersey top and a frilly gingham skirt. Unfortunately when I put it on the jersey bit just covered my boobs and the skirt was too high. I'll donate it to dd as she's shorter than me and her boobs are smaller

Proper vintage 60s Welsh wool cape. I was desperate for one and it was £40 in a vintage clothes shop I wandered into on holiday.

It’s a horrible colour, pinks and purples, not the blue or bottle green one I had in my mind’s eye.

It’s still in the spare bedroom wardrobe as if one day Mr Tumnus will swap it for a green one…

I’m selling my teal and bottle green 60s Welsh cape. It’s gorgeous! But it has a beautiful slippery lining and if you pull the zip down at all it slides down. A dream dashed 😢

Blingismything · 01/09/2025 11:18

A pair of the leopard print wide legged jeans that were all the rage a year ago. Hanging unworn in my wardrobe. Any high necked tops/dresses, they really do not suit me at all.

Couldn't you remove the lining or else attach some grip tape on the insides of the shoulders?

Ginmonkeyagain · 01/09/2025 11:26

I have a boxy, heavy knitted cotton cardie in black from Uniqlo that has been a great spring and autumn staple.

I saw something similar online from Hush in cream but with gold buttons. I had images of it being an easy way to smarten up a early Spring/Autumn work outfit. When it arrived it was more jacket than cardie and was some sort of alpaca/ viscose mix - it is an itchy as hell and makes me look like the chair of my local Conservative ladies association.

DancingNotDrowning · 31/08/2025 20:48

I have also made this exact same mistake 😭

Same, except mine made me look like I was about to play principal boy in the local panto.

FurForksSake · 01/09/2025 11:34

I’ve just remembered a cardi I bought from TikTok shop I’ve bought lots of bits from there very successfully. The cardigan was long, grey, structured and I thought would be a smart coatigan for work. It arrived and was made of a material like insulation, wiry and rough. I think I looked ridiculous in it but more over it was super uncomfortable and smelt!

Grrrr! Mine has buttons on the shoulder so fits and sits like a dream, apart from looking like a cushion cover.

Y2ker · 01/09/2025 11:20

That’s not a bad idea but the lining is so slippery and the cape is so heavy, I’d have to tack it on the seams to stop it sliding against the outer fabric and if I remove it it will pull on my clothes. I can see the point of the lining, it just makes it hard to use casually.

It would be worth it if it was very useful but there are only so many times you can wear a cape. Also it’s impossible to hang in most circumstances! It slithers off chairs and coat racks and if I use a hanger it needs to be zipped to the collar.

It is very beautiful though 😻

Gingerwarthog · 01/09/2025 11:47

black and white shirt - thought it was stylish - photo made me look like an off duty Zebra.

AlpineMuesli · 01/09/2025 13:00

Another sucker for the pirate boots here. They were expensive slouchy suede with a buckle holding them up under the knee, except my calves were too narrow and they kept falling even on the tightest hole.
Ended up looking like leg warmers.
