Blouse/ shirt gaping

Dresses and trousers made only in one length. Look great on the 6 foot tall model, I need to have 6 inches lopped off. Also trousers designed to drape onto the floor. Seen loads of this, this summer. Totally impractical and will be wrecked within a few a wears.

comoatoupeira · 03/08/2025 19:37

So many backless summer dresses where you can’t wear a bra

Lampzade · 03/08/2025 19:39

Unlined clothing

spoonbillstretford · 03/08/2025 19:39

I remember trying a sleeveless all in one on in Next. It looked fab, but was impossible to get the bloody back zip up or down on your own. Who puts a rear zip on a jump suit?

Trousers with the pockets sewn up! Why? I always get caught the first time I wear them. The same with jackets.

Labels that can be ripped off leaving a spiky little plastic loop.

Nasty nylon labels at the neck of tops and dresses, which get caught on a warm/hotting iron and melt a bit and then itch and scratch until you cut them out.

It's to stop them gaping and keep the shape of the garment. Even now, I only unpick the pocket I want to use. I sold a vintage coat of my mum's last year and she'd never unpicked the pockets.

High waists and/or high necklines on everything. The assumption that if you’ve got a big bust you must be big everywhere. Uncomfortable knickers. Hems that fall down, buttons that drop off. Polyester for the price of silk (looking at you, ME+EM).

Yes, I noticed ten years ago that waists on dresses went too high, and they have never come down again. It's rare to find one that sits on my actual waist and isn't half way to empire line.

Judellie · 03/08/2025 19:46

Motifs on the inside of clothing (tops or tshirts) that scratch on the inside. Something that never happens to men's clothing....!

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 03/08/2025 19:48

Tops with a scoop neckline that's cut so wide that it exposes the sides of your bra cups. Tops and dresses with cut outs at the back that don't cover your bra straps/band. Big baggy armholes that show the band of your bra under the armpit. And overly low-cut v-necks. Basically, I want my bra to be underwear with the emphasis on the under!

WonderingWanda · 03/08/2025 19:51

Thin ittle side zips on skirts and trousers, without fail they always catch my fleshy love handles and they break. Put a decent zip in the middle.

Also knicker fabric seems to be getting thinner and thinner.

Still not enough shops selling longer length pyjamas. As a result I have a billion pairs of too short pyjamas.

Button holes which are either too big so always popping open or so small you can barely do them up.

The appalling cutting of garments which are allegedly the same size. Try a 12 long....too tight. Try a 14 long way too big. Try another 14 long better fit but too long.bbtry another 12 long....perfect. Try the same in black and start all over again. It's exhausting.

If they gape, doesn't that mean they are too small?

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 03/08/2025 20:08

Oh, also, shirts with a pointless pocket (or two) right over the boob. You can't put anything in it so why is it there? Is it supposed to draw attention to my chest or something?

The general demise of sleeves that end just above the elbow, which I always look for but rarely find. You can have useless cap sleeves or three-quarter-length ones but anything else, forget it. Full-length sleeves on lightweight tops are also becoming harder to find, which is annoying if you're trying to keep the sun/insects off your arms.

Cheap zips

Breast pockets on womens clothes. Even pyjamas. Just what i need said no woman, ever.

Almostwelsh · 03/08/2025 20:25

Tops and dresses that you can't wear a bra with.

hopspot · 03/08/2025 20:28

I bought a coat online that had breast pockets and buttons in exactly the boob and nipple area. Looked almost obscene!

I think part of the problem is that they don't account for boobs, so it pulls the waist up.
If they made the top part longer and better shaped with darts then the waist would sit correctly.

I don't understand trouser lengths, I'm 5'8 and they're usually fine for me... what are the 95% of women who are shorter than me doing?

RampantIvy · 03/08/2025 20:31

Wide boat necks. So unflattering on me.

ChompandaGrazia · 03/08/2025 20:39

Pockets, pockets, pockets.

Seriously, DH can fit keys, wallet, phone, hanky, the arc royal, hanging gardens of Babylon in his pocket.

CortieTat · 03/08/2025 20:40

I second balloon sleeves, especially combined with puffy shoulders. I’m petite with narrow shoulders, size 6, and they still make me look like Seinfeld in the Puffy Shirt at best, but more like a small but broad ice hockey player.

Giant labels on scarves. Labels on some silk scarves have grown by at least 1 cm in width in the last few years. Cut them off and the scarf loses some resale value.

BrownyMousy · 03/08/2025 20:40

Full sleeves / ruffles on shoulders. How are you supposed to wear a cardi or jacket?

How do people wear ankle grazer trousers in winter and not freeze?

Cropped cardis with 3/4 length sleeves on me just look like they've shrunk in the wash or I've strayed into the childrens' department.

Arms too tight in some tops.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 03/08/2025 20:46

Dresses with zips at the back that you can’t do up/ down on your own.
satin skirts cut on the bias (badly)
Tops with a button and elastic at the back of the neck that you can’t do up.
ughhh

SouthStreet · 03/08/2025 20:51

Bags that weigh a ton before you've even put so much as a hanky in them.
Bras. All bras.

How do people wear ankle grazer trousers in winter and not freeze?
I wear long socks and ankle boots.

Pockets in general.... Either you have no pockets at all (because you are a girl and therefore always carry a handbag) or weirdly placed pockets (because you are a girl and therefore need a shoulder pocket for your lipgloss).
I have a pair of cargo pants that actually have a knee pocket! Completely pointless and potentially painful to use.

I agree with most of these but will be defending balloon sleeves , high necks and empire line waists. I love them all!😁

Cliffedge25 · 03/08/2025 21:04

Jump suit thingy, wonderful deep pockets.. great! Looks lovely.. great! Never need to iron.. great! BUT FFS when I need the loo, have to grapple the whole fucking thing down because the zip is on the back of it. Weeing half knaked with my exposed bra trying to keep the trouser legs OFF the floor in case there’s a puddle of piss there..
