  1. Pockets, lack of
  1. No bust shaping especially on non-tiny sizes. If I'm a size 16 i need a bust dart in nearly everything. Even really expensive jackets and coats and dresses with NO shaping. (Toast at your price you should do better)
Userengage · 03/08/2025 22:21

Trousers lengths - please make them in inches, you know, like men’s trousers. I want a 32 inside leg, not whichever shop’s idea of regular/long/extra long is. Just straight up, no messing 32 inches.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 03/08/2025 22:26

mentioned earlier by a PP, but so bad I'm doing it twice. Boxy jumpers and cardigans with dropped shoulders. Flattering to no-one. they'd make Grace Kelly look like a sack of spuds

Blouse/ shirt gaping

YES! This. I bought dresses I all different sizes from White Stuff recently all with gaping fronts. I think they only cater for people with small chests.

orangesista · 03/08/2025 22:30

Garments made with pricier fabrics like wool, silk & cotton lined with polyester, why? I buy natural fabrics because I want natural fabrics and I don’t want any polyester.

green washing. Does any really believe companies like Zara give a shit about anything other than their bottom line? Their whole business model is incredibly bad for the planet

‘vegan’ leather. It’s plastic.

That just means it's too tight no?

No. I have a shirt that is easily 4 sizes too big (bought as I wanted something seriously oversized as a beach cover-up). It still bloody gapes!

The issue is that the manufacturer hasn’t allowed for the fact that most women have boobs that affect how the garment sits.

SigmundinaCafe · 03/08/2025 22:31

What I want is just a nice, elegant, crew- neck jumper in back, grey or cream made from any kind of pure / natural wool (merino, cashmere, mohair, alpaca etc).

It shouldn’t be this difficult!

Instead, the market is flooded with embellished, over-designed, garish jumpers that look absolutely awful. Or worse-those with "quirky" design details no one asked for: slits up the side, weird cut-outs, random stitching, or an asymmetrical hem.
Why? Seriously, just stop. It's infuriating.

I understand why they do it. Simple, high-quality clothing works against the fast-fashion profit model —if it's well-made and timeless, we don't need to keep rebuying it every season.

The best jumpers l've ever owned came from Levi's Made & Crafted, YMC, Ba&SH, Masscob, and Isabel Marant. I just wish they made more of those kinds again.
Masscob is still fairly reliable for knitwear, but very dear.

American Vintage? Overpriced and underwhelming. Not recommended.

Really shallow shoes. I have a high instep and it is almost impossible to get shoes that don’t hurt after 30 minutes.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 03/08/2025 22:37

@Britpopbaby those bloody ribbons which are supposed to hooked on the hangar to stop things falling off!! I have a couple of top where said ribbons are sewn into the damn neck seam!!!!! wtf!

Jdkaksbd · 03/08/2025 22:39

Drop shoulders, as it's cheaper than doing inset shoulders.
Seams that are not properly double stitched

Labels and hanging loops. I always have to cut them out and end up with itchy stubs. Now there are long ones across the back of some tops.

Clothes cut in piles so that I buy one that fits and buy the same trousers from the shop a few days later and they don’t fit grrr.

Jdkaksbd · 03/08/2025 22:42

My biggest bugbear is bad fabric which is just not up to the job and shrinks or bobbles after a couple of washes, no matter how carefully it is washed.
This is even with pricier clothes. The fabric is just not good quality any more.

KettleOn919 · 03/08/2025 22:50

Skirts that have pockets sewn into the side seams, spoiling the hang and making it look really bulky and wide.

YesItsMe44 · 03/08/2025 23:01

I agree with so much. The waists in dresses that are under my boobs. Decent length short sleeves, I want my bat wings covered. The gusse in underwear wide enough to fit a pad, menstral or bladder type. You end up with the pad stuck to the inside of your crotch or leg if you're not careful. The gusset in my 10yo granddaughter's underwear is wider than adult underwear!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 03/08/2025 23:01

The fact that women have boobs seems to have completely slipped the mind of all the designers! Waists are too high on dresses, no darts to be seen anywhere, a pocket plonked right on top of your boob on an otherwise lovely blouse and the complete absence of bra sized swimwear in any high street store. I have boobs. Nothing fits them! Just because I have big boobs doesn’t mean I have a large band size. I’m fed up of all the swooning about how fabulous celebs/royalty look in their clothes. Of course they do! They’re all made to measure. I’d look amazing if all my clothes were cut to suit my boobs too! Rant over. And breathe.

WonderingWanda · 03/08/2025 23:04

Hoods that aren't deep enough to accommodate a pony tail....while where on that matter could we please bring back car head rests with a pony tail hole on please.

ImTheLittleRedHen · 03/08/2025 23:17

Tights that ladder as your putting a brand new pair on for the first time

spoonbillstretford · 03/08/2025 19:39

I remember trying a sleeveless all in one on in Next. It looked fab, but was impossible to get the bloody back zip up or down on your own. Who puts a rear zip on a jump suit?

I wore a jumpsuit with a rear zip to my son's wedding. I attached a narrow ribbon to the zip pull and used it like you would for a wetsuit. I tucked it down the neck in between times.

Mansionscoldandgrey · 03/08/2025 23:25

Elasticated waists.

dollyboots · 03/08/2025 23:25

The assumption that being round of tum means one also has a generous sized arse and sturdy legs. I don’t. I’m a classic apple and therefore all trousers make me look like I’m wearing hooped clown pants.

thornbury · 03/08/2025 23:27

Tops and dresses that are close fitting but have no fastenings of any sort. How exactly are you supposed to get them on and off?

Maxorias · 03/08/2025 23:28

Anything without pockets.
Women's sizes being annoyingly short and tight fitting, so shirts ride up your belly all the time and trousers feel like they've been painted on you.

StarryGazeyEyes · 03/08/2025 23:30

I hate summer dresses that you want to wear because they are light and cool but then you then have to wear a cami or t-shirt underneath them because they're virtually cut to the navel. I'm menopausal and don't want layers when I'm already melting. It's either that or high necklines that make my boobs look like they occupy several postcodes. I do love proper empire-line though.

Bags that weigh a ton before you've even put so much as a hanky in them.
Bras. All bras.

How do people wear ankle grazer trousers in winter and not freeze?
I wear long socks and ankle boots.

I agree about the bags that weigh half a ton! I've had some lovely ones that I just couldn't use because they were far too heavy to carry for more than a minute. Grrrrr
