Anyone want to talk Autumn shopping wish lists?

I know it’s not even August yet, and I’ve still not gone on my summer holiday yet - but there’s a chill in the air, I’ve packed a box of freshly picked blackberries in the freezer for autumnal crumbles and while looking for school uniform today, noticed quite a few burgundy items in shop windows.

So what’s on your autumnal shopping list?

Im after a pair of black knee high boots. (My old ones finally had to be retired last year, beyond what could be repaired.)

I’ve just bought a dark brown cashmere jumper on vinted. Am now going to start the hunt for the perfect dark green cashmere jumper or cardie.

I think I need new work trousers but not sure what shape we’re doing this year. (Wide leg ? That doesn’t work well with puddles.)

Anyone else with a list for when the new season starts arriving in the shops?

Another happy Mounjaro person who is now 3 stones lighter and needs a whole new Autumn wardrobe. I've just ordered the TU kilt in a size 8! Hope the quality is decent. Going to wear it with black chunky brogues or biker boots and a fitted, v neck cashmere jumper in charcoal grey.

SpiralSister · 09/08/2025 17:47

That sounds lovely, @Arraminta. I can’t do brogues - I look like Olive Oyl, especially now I’m no longer fat! Biker boots I can do though.

I got this cute kilt pin on Etsy - it looks great on my Lindsay tartan (burgundy and green). I think it might be a bit small on the Tu one..

i’d like either a cord or tweedy blazer/jacket. Possibly moleskin/short pile velvet. I’ve wanted one for a few years but am another who has lost weight and have higher hopes of finding one. Think a Claudia/traitors vibe but for a short curvy so needs to be fitted. I actually have no idea where I may find such a thing, what price point it will be at or what colour it would be (brown tones is obvious but not sure if a heathered grey may work better). I know budget won’t be loads and loads - think mid high street probably although could stretch up for something perfect I’d wear for years.

also cotton knitwear (allergic to wool) - chunky colourful cardigan and finer v/scoop neck jumpers - one neutral one colourful. Based upon last years searching I should keep an eye out fairly early as everything I liked was sold out quite quickly. Uniqlo never do colours that suit me sadly.

Sounds like you are a texture fan like me.
Joe Browns have some blazers that may fit the bill. There's quite a lot of cord and velvet around at the moment so you may be in luck in even John Lewis or Boden and even the always overpriced imo Brora.

Nomoretopswithblacktrousers · 10/08/2025 10:54

Joe Browns have moleskin trousers too at the moment.

myladyjane · 10/08/2025 11:17

Thanks @Nomoretopswithblacktrousers I just looked at Joe Brown and there are some things that are almost but not quite what I’m after. I got a bit excited about the blue cord blazer for example but then the buttons and the lace trim isn’t me - I like very plain details although you are right, I do like texture. I will keep checking though as the shapes and textures are on the right track and they do petite which I didn’t realise. Thank you :)

SpiralSister · 10/08/2025 11:43

Last year Seasalt did the cord Heald blazer, @myladyjane, which I really liked (apart from the nasty plastic buttons, which I changed for MOP ones). I got it in bottle green and burgundy in the sale. Sold them on when they got too big, and would be happy to have one again. Worth a gander on Vinted..

We are a lot alike including the petite thing. Those little edgy details are the one main thing that annoys me about JB. Something looks so good until I look up close. They are also really bad at not having even subtle patterns match on both sides of a hem.

AlertCat · 10/08/2025 11:56

@myladyjane Seasalt generally discount their cotton knits at this time of year because most people see them as summer clothes- worth a look?

myladyjane · 10/08/2025 14:05

I think seasalt isn’t a bad shout, thanks. Nothing yet (just looked) but may look at vinted/ebay and keep checking back. They have the kind of chunky cardigan I am after but awful colour for me and some great jumpers in nice colours but neck line is too high.

Appreciate I sound fussy but I am trying to buy things which are right not just ok and it can be a tough slog can’t it.

thanks for all the help.

House of Bruar does seem to be a company aimed at Autumnal clothing, I’ve had a couple of cardies from them but seem disappointing their wool had the itch.

It does, I bought a sleeveless jumper there and it's lovely but definitely a bit itchy. Luckily it's the kind of thing id have to wear a blouse or long sleeved teashirt under so it's never against my skin directly.

Gettingbysomehow · 10/08/2025 15:04

Im after Seasalt cardigans too. I want this one in a couple of colours to go with my sleeveless dresses so I can wear them in winter.
I also want some brown leather ankle boots from Clarkes, and a couple of chunky jumpers to go with jeans. I've been looking at Celtic Knitwear Company amongst others.

Am I the only one feeling uninspired by all the brown? I don’t mind brown tweed, but otherwise it’s not my cup of (light brown, Earl Grey) tea.

I bought a dark brown hoodie from Hush recently. Looked lovely on the hanger. Unfortunately when I put it on I looked like a corpse. Brown is clearly not my colour.

TheStateofRoads · 10/08/2025 15:14

I want some cowboy boots! (Thanks to the poster enjoying her US shopping!)

I'm lucky in that I only have size 4 feet so can get away with chunky brogues. Love that kilt pin. I too am eagerly awaiting the delivery of the TU kilt. Just hoping it's not too polyester-ish? I'm also on the lookout out for a black mini skirt kilt, too.

WoolerOwl · 10/08/2025 17:55

Reporting back on the kilt! I'm afraid it's a no from me. I am not convinced that the inner panel across the front is adequate, so I end up showing a lot of leg when it blows open. It also pulls across my stomach (size 12) and even though the stomach part is stitched down, with the pleats starting lower, it isn't flattering. My legs are a better feature than my menopausal stomach, so that feels all wrong. And finally, I think it's a little bit too short for me, at 173cm. So, it's going back.

There were three other items in the parcel though, all keepers. The mock croc dark brown blot looks much more expensive than £5. The black Ponte boxy blazer is lovely and really well cut. And the check printed drawstring trousers described as grey are actually taupe, dark brown, and black, which is much nicer, and goes with both the black boxy Tu jacket, and the dark brown cotton boxy jacket that I got from Uniqlo. I will post links, in case anyone is interested.

WoolerOwl · 10/08/2025 18:02

And the brown Uniqlo jacket. I bought a large, which is relaxed on me, but I think it's meant to be like that. The model is shown with the shoulder seams just off her shoulder, which is how it sits on me (I'm usually a 14 top, with broad shoulders). It's a very satisfyingly dark brown, for others looking for similar.

Belt, not blot!

Cyclingmummy1 · 10/08/2025 21:11

How wide is the belt please @WoolerOwl? It looks perfect.

Love the Uniqlo jacket as well, but it's 90 miles to my nearest store 😆

WoolerOwl · 10/08/2025 22:16

The belt is about an inch wide.
