Anyone want to talk Autumn shopping wish lists?

I know it’s not even August yet, and I’ve still not gone on my summer holiday yet - but there’s a chill in the air, I’ve packed a box of freshly picked blackberries in the freezer for autumnal crumbles and while looking for school uniform today, noticed quite a few burgundy items in shop windows.

So what’s on your autumnal shopping list?

Im after a pair of black knee high boots. (My old ones finally had to be retired last year, beyond what could be repaired.)

I’ve just bought a dark brown cashmere jumper on vinted. Am now going to start the hunt for the perfect dark green cashmere jumper or cardie.

I think I need new work trousers but not sure what shape we’re doing this year. (Wide leg ? That doesn’t work well with puddles.)

Anyone else with a list for when the new season starts arriving in the shops?

That cord mini looks good @Talisin I can’t wait till mini and tights season.

With a brown or burgundy mini, what colour of tights would people wear it with?

I have some brown trousers I bought recently, I need to have a try on with lots of shoes today to see if I actually have any that will go with them! If not, I need to buy some or take them back!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/09/2025 09:20

I dug out my denim mini and wore it with black tights last night - I was far too warm though.

I’m now having a hankering for maybe some cable knit burgundy tights to pair with it when it’s cold.

I tried the mango coat on in burgundy beautiful colour and shape however the small absolutely drowned me

I was going to ask about sizing - I am a 12 and 5’9” - thinking a medium? Does that seem sensible? I should probably wait till I get paid so hope they don’t sell out too quickly!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/09/2025 10:00

I had a sequin mini skirt for a couple of years that I had to give to charity as it got too tight. Managed to find it in a size up in a charity shop yesterday, so it came home with me. I love wearing them dressed down with a jumper and DMs for December pub trips!

I’m a 10 in mango (but 4” shorter than you), and tried the XS yesterday, it completely drowned me. The sleeves were very long. I found it a bit itchy, but I did have short sleeves. I did like it, but it wasn’t for me.

Thanks @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo it does sound very oversized!

My hunt for nice burgundy wide legged trousers met constant dead ends this weekend - just so many that are either really not burgundy, despite descriptions, and/or just plain horrible.

The Hush Lya trousers would have been lovely IF they had been burgundy, nice cut and fabric. Some Sosandar ones just plain nasty. Looked at River Island, Mango etc. and nothing. Nowhere to look at Reiss in the flesh locally, will just have to bite the bullet and order some.

Won’t do me for the smarter bits, but did buy a pair of burgundy horseshoe jeans in M&S. I’m probably old enough to know better, but I liked them.😆

Am very much enjoying it being boot weather again.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 21/09/2025 17:18

@WinWhenTheyreSinging- I’m also after wide leg burgundy or chocolate brown trousers that don’t have a drawstring waist/look smart enough for work. I’ve got the added complication of wanting petite length. Oddly hard to find.

Both meant to be very ‘in’ colours - can’t understand why they’re so hard to find.

I have the opposite problem for length - at least you could get some chopped off if you found good ones, I suppose.😆

I feel I might crumble and order the Lya again to look at home. I’m a bit hampered because I really do want them to be a red burgundy, to go with particular boots, but they were so nice I might try again. They do offer a petite version, although stock doesn’t look great.

(On the actual Hush website, as opposed to John Lewis, they seem to have two versions of them - one is £10 cheaper and a bigger wool percentage, and actually called burgundy, as opposed to what I assume is this season’s, which is called winetasting. I can see me ordering both to try.🙄)

I’m 5 9 and a 10-12 ( for context I tried the jigsaw maxi city in a 10 and it was a great fit). I tried the m Mango coat on today and agree it was massive! Also agree it was v itchy so not for me either! I’d definitely recommend trying one on if you can!

Yes, Reiss the next move I think, but might try and get to a store.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/09/2025 21:25

Those Reiss trousers are nice. I need to get my autumn clothes down from the loft and remind myself what I already have before I buy anything else.

Popped into TK Maxx yesterday and was thrilled to find a pair of chocolate brown trousers from Massimo Dutti. They're high waisted, wide leg, half lined to the knees and have a slight tuck at the ankle so they hang beautifully. Only £20!

Interesting, hadn't looked at MD. They have some lovely looking burgundy trousers, but I can't see an inside leg length - does anyone know how long their trousers normally are?

What a fabulous find!

My latest purchases are rather dull, but they have filled gaps in my wardrobe - thermal vests and cashmere and wool socks.

Did also manage to find a discounted merino sweater in a colour which I think (hope) will work well with a beautiful skirt I bagged on Vinted. It's a colour I can only describe as 'greige'. Bit like a warm grey

AlertCat · 22/09/2025 15:59

I got a lovely unstructured linen jacket on Vinted but the shade of pink is quite cool, while my wardrobe tends towards warmer shades. If you were me would you put it back on Vinted, dye it a warmer pink, or dye it some other colour like charcoal or rust?

I'd dye it a warmer colour if you love everything else about it, but I am prone to dyeing stuff willy nilly. 😆

If you have any reservations beyond colour, stick it back on Vinted.

I'm 5ft 6 and my trousers are 'Regular' and they're a perfect length for me.

Thank you, but probably a bit short then.

@digiwidgyhave you had a look at Woolovers for the 1/4 zip jumper? The men’s section has a one in various colours

Great find! I’d never expect Massimo Dutti in TK Maxx

triggers34 · 22/09/2025 21:17

@digiwidgythanks for the link , they’re sold out in my size 😂 I don’t really need them I was just tempted by the rave reviews of the TikTok ones ! I may still buy them but get them sent to a ‘not on an island’ address via one of my dds .

@ArramintaMy flip flop loafers arrived , love them however they’ve shredded my heels on their first outing - short walk with ddog . I hope I can break them in!

I love thrifting and today scored a burgundy cashmere mens jumper and a brown Roman velvet feel needlecord duster coat . (£11 total) Top tip always check the mens section of the charity shops!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 22/09/2025 21:29

Oh I’ve done the Vinted dither and now have the regret when someone else has bought the thing I’d favourited to think about later. A lovely burgundy and dusky pink dress. I’ve a friends 40th drinks coming up (my young friend) and I was thinking it’d look good with brown knee highs for that but it’s not something on my autumn list so I went away to think about it for half an hour to find it has gone. Need to be more decisive with vinted!

Bought some new boots today from John Lewis. Never been a DM girl but saw these today which I thought had a similar style and loved them. I wanted some boots for slightly baggier jeans. Wore them out this evening and they’re so comfortable.
Vegan Leather so not sure how they will last though.
