Anyone want to talk Autumn shopping wish lists?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 27/07/2025 14:52

I know it’s not even August yet, and I’ve still not gone on my summer holiday yet - but there’s a chill in the air, I’ve packed a box of freshly picked blackberries in the freezer for autumnal crumbles and while looking for school uniform today, noticed quite a few burgundy items in shop windows.

So what’s on your autumnal shopping list?

Im after a pair of black knee high boots. (My old ones finally had to be retired last year, beyond what could be repaired.)

I’ve just bought a dark brown cashmere jumper on vinted. Am now going to start the hunt for the perfect dark green cashmere jumper or cardie.

I think I need new work trousers but not sure what shape we’re doing this year. (Wide leg ? That doesn’t work well with puddles.)

Anyone else with a list for when the new season starts arriving in the shops?

@petitpasta According to Grazia, grey pleated skirts are massively In this autumn so you appear to have unwittingly hit the zeitgeist! https://graziadaily.co.uk/fashion/shopping/pleated-skirt-trend/

Excellent news thank you! It is a gorgeous skirt and a bargain too. I've lost nearly 7 stone and so I am using vinted as a way of experimenting with styles I couldn't wear previously.

I think George at asda have some really nice pieces in at the moment. I had gone off George and only went in to help my sister get some school stuff for her little one. I ended up buying some trousers and a short sleeve jumper, I could've easily have bought more though.

SpiralSister · 06/09/2025 15:28

I’ve just had delivered a lovely bitter chocolate faux leather a line skirt from M&S via Vinted. I had the same skirt in black a few sizes ago and it’s really good.

Well I popped into town today just for a fringe trim 😂. Came home with some wide leg jeans and a brown top both from Reiss, and a burgundy top, and brown Suedette jacket from M&S. I think the jacket will get so much use this autumn as there’s a lot of suedette around.
I tried on loads in Reiss where I’ve never shopped before and everything seemed a perfect fit for me which is a worry for my bank balance.
I’d also ordered some brown and taupe suede trainers from Holland Cooper yesterday which I love. So a very spendy couple of days but feeling very autumnal now.
In my defence the jacket cost the same as I sold one for on Vinted this week and the rest was birthday money 😊

Good find. I have just bought a beautiful chocolate silky/satin dress from Massimo Dutti that I plan to wear under a brown knitted jumper or cardigan. I have learnt over the summer that skirts (for me anyway) feel somewhat uncomfortable on my belly and the tops and t shirts I wear always move around. It meant that I was constantly re-adjusting. Hoping I get on better with a slip dress this season instead! I plan to wear with Mary-Jane’s or ballet flats x 🤎

Which brown top and jeans did you get? Reiss is one of my favourite brands! The quality is so good, so sometimes I feel I can justify price (price per wear)!!

@PeonyPatch lets hope I can justify cost per wear 🤞. I liked their crew neck jumpers particularly the Toffee one at £98 but wasn’t sure how it would wear. Also this top

Oh very nice. Some good choices. I know what you mean about the plum one. I feel it’s a bit dressier and could take you from office to drinks quite nicely though! Sadly I feel it would show up my lumps & bumps a bit too much. The toffee crew neck is such a gorgeous colour! ✨

@PeonyPatch have you bought any of their knitwear?

I had a quick nose on their website after your post. The new Erica Davies collection is fairly nice. Particularly these trousers: https://direct.asda.com/george/women/trousers/grey-checked-side-stripe-wide-leg-trousers/GEM1326145,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M1G20C8&shareProduct=true

Yes, I have! Last year! My grey chunky jumper is still going strong and it remains one of my comfiest / fav jumpers. Similar to this Ella one:

You’ve now got me eyeing up this one in Plum! I have to say, their knitwear is 110% worth it.

I love Reiss knitwear but they invariably include wool in 90% of their sweaters and I'm allergic to it.

That’s such a shame @Arraminta Do you have another go-to?

Nomoretopswithblacktrousers · 06/09/2025 19:23

I am almost relieved Reiss seems to have updated its website and now you can't sort by newness. That's one bad habit scrapped, for now...

hellswelshy · 05/09/2025 09:18

Really hope you get on with these, I ordered them quite a while ago now - maybe last year? - and they were the strangest design! The side zip doesn't go all the way to the top to let you get your foot in so you have to try to force your foot in via the top which was too narrow! I was so disappointed as apart from that I loved them.

Got them on after a lot of messing about, I like them, but they're going back.

I wanted some boots I could just slip on to leave the house once the weather changes a bit, I'm not spending 5 minutes wrestling them onto my feet. My search will continue

Well luckily I can wear cashmere if I want to wear a good quality jumper that's warm. But I begrudge having to faff around taking proper care of it.

Sorry they didn't work out! But enjoy the continued hunt for boots 👢 🙌

I hear ya… and it’s so expensive too. I have a cashmere jumper and have to take it to dry cleaners. It’s lovely to wear though. Also from Reiss, lol. Are there any other materials you can go for? Lately I’ve been thinking I ought to have some non-expensive knits to throw on… because they’re not as expensive to take care of or replace. I don’t have kids, but if I did I would certainly not be buying from Reiss so much!

I spent £80 on two bras at the weekend. I might not be able to have any new autumn clothes, in consequence!

I did get a nice Marks black and white striped Autograph t-shirt from Vinted though.

Bras are horrifically expensive. I'm sure if blokes had to wear them they'd be free. Brastop is very good for bargainous bras. Usually last year's colours but I'll happily wear out of date colours if it saves me 50%!

I've managed to get a gorgeous pair of barely worn brown knee high suede boots off vinted. Absolute bargain, so pleased with them.

Also found a box of silk scarves in the garage today. Had forgotten about them since we moved 8 years ago. Fortunately they were well packed so they've survived and just need a hand wash to freshen them up. Also found a number of pairs of heels which I've listed on Vinted. Am not intending to wear heels ever again!

Need a couple more swishy skirts and then I think I'm done.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/09/2025 06:04

Thanks for the Brastop rec. I’ll have a look.
