Anyone want to talk Autumn shopping wish lists?

I know it’s not even August yet, and I’ve still not gone on my summer holiday yet - but there’s a chill in the air, I’ve packed a box of freshly picked blackberries in the freezer for autumnal crumbles and while looking for school uniform today, noticed quite a few burgundy items in shop windows.

So what’s on your autumnal shopping list?

Im after a pair of black knee high boots. (My old ones finally had to be retired last year, beyond what could be repaired.)

I’ve just bought a dark brown cashmere jumper on vinted. Am now going to start the hunt for the perfect dark green cashmere jumper or cardie.

I think I need new work trousers but not sure what shape we’re doing this year. (Wide leg ? That doesn’t work well with puddles.)

Anyone else with a list for when the new season starts arriving in the shops?

How’s everyone doing with their lists now the weather feels like we’re getting to autumn?

the trousers I ordered from vinted were a no - back to the drawing board for work trousers.

What size and style are you looking for? I’m currently selling a pair on Vinted.

I am looking forward to autumn, but I’m making way for some new bits in the wardrobe !

I’m after petite wide leg chocolate brown work trousers (so no draw string or elasticated waist), 8 or 10 depending on brand generosity.

and I thought I’d found them and then they were too scratchy for any sane person to wear.

I've bought a lightweight cream and black jumper from next and an argyle jumper from new look in camel and burgundy which should be delivered tomorrow. I've also bought a brown, green and plum floral dress from river island. I also bought a burgundy knitted waistcoat from primark. My autumn collection is coming along quite nicely 😊

BangingOn · 27/08/2025 20:44

I’m really enjoying reading about everyone’s autumn purchases. I’m on the lookout for another pair of boots, something like the Miista curved heel or cut out wedges, but better quality as Miista get grim reviews despite the price tag.

WoolerOwl · 27/08/2025 20:53

I bought these this week. Great colour and style. Very comfortable so far. Look much more expensive than they were.

Popped into Apricot today, lots of nice autumn dresses. I didn’t have time to try anything on but I will go back at the weekend.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/08/2025 21:04

I really want some nice new work clothes. Trousers and shirts/tops I think. Classic, smart ones. But I also want to lose around half a stone so I don’t want to buy any new trousers before then.

I’ve been eyeing up shirts from WNU since they started following me around insta but they are pricey.

i’d also like some short sleeved knitwear for autumn. I miss old school oasis for that!

i need not to buy any boots though. I have bought a few pairs over the last couple of years, although all lovely, none of them seem quite right most of the time. 🙄

I think I’d like a new coat. I’ve always hankered after a smart full length wool coat, but I’m short in the leg and full in the bust so always struggle. I tried one on in jigsaw last year which was lovely, but by the time I decided to go for it, it was sold out.

I love autumn shopping!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2025 08:04

I’ve bought two black Cos v neck T-shirts as direct replacements for some that were looking tatty, and a black cardigan from Marks also to replace a tatty one.

I need new black work trousers, but everything in Marks was horrendous and I’m not really sure where to look. Any ideas? I don’t want wide or baggy.

I still need new work shoes too, but not sure what.

I made a new skirt, midi/floaty, in autumnal colours and I think that will transition me nicely between summer and autumn.

HotAndHassled · 28/08/2025 18:46

Has anyone bought any shoes from Alohas - they are always on my Instagram feed and I am taken by the ballet flats with the bow tie. These, which I can’t link to for some reason.

There is a god! I have discovered ponte fabric. It seems to be everywhere. AI definition below. It's soft, thick, crinkle free and stretchy and perfect for travel trousers. How have I not discovered this years ago? Am I last to know? Now that I think abouti t, a favourite pair of trousers from many years ago must have been made of the same.

I don't normally like man made material but this one is a game changer for me.

Anyone had a bad experience with it? Please warn me now! 😁

(often Ponte Roma) refers to a type of double-knit fabric known for its softness, structure, stretch, and wrinkle resistance, resulting from two layers of fabric knitted together on two sets of needles. It blends natural fibers like cotton or wool with synthetics such as rayon, nylon, and spandex, creating a fabric with the comfort of jersey but more stability and heft, making it ideal for dresses, pants, and jackets that need to hold their shape while remaining soft and comfortable

OffToSeaInABlizzard · 29/08/2025 08:28

I think I too first heard of ‘ponte’ fabric on S&B, years ago. I’ve never bought anything in it as soft and stretchy isn’t what I look for in clothes. And also I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a poster here link to any ponte fabric that wasn’t entirely, or almost entirely, man made. Certainly never encountered any that was mostly wool, or cotton.

CharlotteCChapel · 29/08/2025 08:59

I have enough clothes, too many I fact but some of my trousers are either worn out or are too big for me. I'll look at replacing these. From last year I have a gorgeous cream jumper that I've never worn and a pair of M&S ankle boots that need breaking in. When will I learn that M&S shoes always rub

Yes ponte is a man made fabric. That's why I'd not come across it before. I'm not into stretchy stuff either but for long haul travel trousers, it's been a winner!

CharlotteSometimes1 · 29/08/2025 17:52

You can get polyester ponte which is what you mostly find on the high street or viscose ponte which is much better quality and doesn’t bobble. Relatively easy to find if you’re into dressmaking, but harder to find in ready to wear.

Hi , I’m looking for a pair of wide jeans which is proving difficult , I’m looking for a high waist , not too baggy down to the knee but flares out from the knee down with a bit of stretch
I’ve seen them with a price tag of £169 I’m happy to pay up to £50
Any advice

Trixie2012 · 29/08/2025 21:38

Oops sorry for post

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 31/08/2025 18:51

Popped into town today to check out the Autumn collections. Purchased my first pair of barrel leg jeans from Mint Velvet and a few light short sleeve knitted tops from Zara, JL and H&M to see me through early autumn. A mix of work and weekend casual.

There’s a LOT of brown and burgundy around. I was hunting everywhere for some chunky burgundy loafers at the beginning of the year and bought some I like, but don’t love as they’re a little big. They’re everywhere now!

MissyB1 · 31/08/2025 18:56

I’d like a brightly coloured chunky knit Cardigan, if anyone sees such a thing please could you point me to it, extra brownie points if it has a collar!

myladyjane · 31/08/2025 19:04

@MissyB1 I am looking for similar although want cotton as am allergic to wool and hate acrylic. Seems a fools errand atm although I am slightly picky about colour too which really narrows my search.

omnes do a couple in red/pink which you can get via next. Sugar hill Brighton have some nice looking ones but acrylic. Fatface too but the colours are a bit muted

mummysmagicmedicine · 31/08/2025 19:07

Black knee high boots too!
A new raincoat but maybe in brown or a different colour rather than black
Some neutral trainers maybe new balance?
And my top priority is a pair of ugg ultra minis. Not sure to go chocolate brown or sandy beige colour wise so any tips I’d love x

If you’re still looking I just spotted these the other day that I don’t need but absolutely love:

if they’re the right ones I’m thinking they looked a lot more burgundy in real life

Yes I also need cotton knit as I’m another one allergic to most wool. Yes I looked at fat face but you’re right about the colours.

tostaky · 31/08/2025 20:09

I was going to buy a Sezane jacket (michelle) based on a different S&B thread. I am SO glad i went to their shop in Marylebone to try it out! The wool felt really itchy and the lining felt a bit too thin. I did not like it. I had a browse in all the other shops around and i noticed so many houndstooth jacket (or maybe i just really want one!!)

i am also looking for a cardigan for work that would work well with a stripy red/raspberry and cream top (celtic &co). I have a beige Barbour cardigan but the beige on cream is not the best… i was thinking of wraring that top with some navy blue barrel leg trousers from Fatface (two years ago). It is going to be impossible to find the same shade of navy blue as the trousers so i am not sure what else to wear to keep me warm. Any suggestions welcome! 🤗
