Anyone want to talk Autumn shopping wish lists?

I know it’s not even August yet, and I’ve still not gone on my summer holiday yet - but there’s a chill in the air, I’ve packed a box of freshly picked blackberries in the freezer for autumnal crumbles and while looking for school uniform today, noticed quite a few burgundy items in shop windows.

So what’s on your autumnal shopping list?

Im after a pair of black knee high boots. (My old ones finally had to be retired last year, beyond what could be repaired.)

I’ve just bought a dark brown cashmere jumper on vinted. Am now going to start the hunt for the perfect dark green cashmere jumper or cardie.

I think I need new work trousers but not sure what shape we’re doing this year. (Wide leg ? That doesn’t work well with puddles.)

Anyone else with a list for when the new season starts arriving in the shops?

What footwear is everyone planning on wearing with the kilt? I wore my similar kilt with long black, low heeled boots last winter which I liked but wanted something lighter for autumn. Flat loafers and socks isn’t a look for me.

Good question. I was planning on bikers or flat pointed Chelsea’s, or my burgundy lace up flat boots, but they are all perhaps too heavy for autumn. Also can’t do the loafer thing.
Mary Jane’s perhaps? Velvet ones might be rather nice..

Nice idea on the Mary Janes, that could work 🤔

Even though I’ve lost a lot of weight I still have stumpy, chunky calves so do better in boots than flat shoes. I don’t miss the discomfort of heels but I do miss the legs they gave me.

Oh I’ve just found some petite length chocolate brown wide leg trousers that look smart on vinted for £4.50. They weren’t exactly what I’m looking for but at £4.50 decided worth a punt.

I’ve just ordered some burgundy suede loafers but I’m not going down the sock route!

Wehadabetamax · 18/08/2025 16:42

I've bought these boots
www.schuh.co.uk/womens/dr-martens-1460-serena-fur-lined-grey-boots/1449217530/ and now can't wait until we have cooler weather so I can wear them.

I really like that Tu kilt but at 5ft I suspect it will be far too long on me.

Just ordered a black velvet maxi skirt in Next clearance. Very me but it looks clingy around the tummy area so - assuming I keep it - I shall likely be wearing it along the lines of the second photo down of the model.

That’s lovely! Is it more an indoor or an outdoor jacket?

WoolerOwl · 18/08/2025 17:56

It’s lovely. I saw it in the shop in the lighter of the two colours. Very buttery suede texture.

WoolerOwl · 18/08/2025 17:58

And I bought a chocolate brown knitted short sleeve t-shirt in H&M. Synthetic but not scratchy and looks very like wool. Wooly t-shirts seem to be a thing this autumn,

Both as it’s a blazer really but I will wear it outdoors.

That’s lovely. Just had a look and a reviewer said it’s a dupe of a Sézane one! Très chic then! Is the jacket lined? I love both colours !

Your knitted top sounds nice Woolerowl - we will see it in the DM next you little fashionista ! ❤️

I found some really old but still decent condition Ralph Lauren suede heeled ankle boots at the back of my wardrobe. I’m so pleased and can’t believe I forgot about them!

MissyB1 · 18/08/2025 20:16

@faeriesandelves yes the H&M jacket is lined, great value!

Is anyone trying the silk bandana or square scarf? I have a few arriving Friday. I keep looking up how to wear them so that it looks fresh and contemporary, and I've always wanted to wear these, and a friend does so expertly, but I know it's going to be a challenge for me!

SpiralSister · 19/08/2025 08:17

I wear them, @dudsville - have a few, in silk, cotton and linen. Roake Studio do nice ones, and there always seems to be silk to pick up on Vinted.

SpiralSister · 19/08/2025 08:20

There is a thread on S&B about silk scarves now, which includes some links to how to wear.

Judging by that thread, there is quite a lot of hesitation about them out there, but they are the easiest thing!

SpiralSister · 19/08/2025 08:23

Just realised that it is in fact you, @dudsville, that posted the link!

I got one last year, mainly to wear with a wool jumper which is a bit itchy at the neck. I was afraid of looking like a cowboy or someone from the 50s, but I soon lost that inhibition and will be looking out for another one this year.

A student I know has a little dressmaking business and uses up the scrap fabric to make these things- I think hers are cheaper than Roake: fingsbyfloss.co.uk/products/the-nuff

JMAngel1 · 19/08/2025 10:17

I am aiming to find some warm midi dresses as have loved wearing dresses this summer - so easy to get dressed.
However warm dresses usually equates
to knitted which aren’t always very flattering so I could struggle.

I want to find a bright navy blue belted long coat in wool. I had one last year and it was gorgeous but is now trashed - all balled and shedding. Dry cleaning absolutely wrecked it. It was Ralph Lauren from Vinted and I thought it would last years so I’m very disappointed. I need to find a different dry cleaner!

I’d love one of the tan brown suede jackets that are in this season but feel it would look very dated so not sure.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 19/08/2025 10:23

@JMAngel1- I’ve got some good warm dresses from previous years that aren’t wool/knitted. I’ve got a couple of corduroy shirt dresses, really flattering and warm. Also some thicker ponte material ones from Boden.

I think wool is almost self-cleaning. You can spot-wash and then just hang it up to air- dry cleaning doesn’t get smells out anyway. All my wool jumpers and blankets are like this and last much longer if I don’t wash or dry clean them.

I'll check out yours and the other recommendation!

WoolerOwl · 19/08/2025 14:45

I have found some great silk scarves on Vinted in the past. You have to be very careful when searching as people label things as silk that are just silky material and not actually silk. But, conversely, there are people who don't notice that they have real silk or don't understand the price difference, and price their real silk items as if they were synthetic. That's when I pounce!
