I think I would do the same to be fair. I'd be proud of the history and heritage of my family.

Titles that mean little today but they cling to them regardless!

Dorothea is King Charles first cousin, the daughter of one of Prince Philip's sisters.

That's interesting. Philip had 4 sisters, so I suppose there are many descendants now

Yes, and none of them were invited to his wedding as 3 out of 4 had either joined or married members of the Nazi party.

Indeed. I've seen the pictures of Philip walking behind his sister Cecile's coffin when he was a teenager. Quite the display of swastikas.
Elizabeth met many obstacles over her planned marriage to Philip because of this.

Apart from an episode of the Crown I don't know a lot about the sisters of Prince Philip. His mother sounds excellent. I saw a documentary on her!
Googled the sisters...very chic ladies.

Maireas · 24/07/2025 17:05

It's interesting that even though her daughters married Nazis, Princess Alice herself was not a Nazi supporter, and sheltered Jews in wartime. She was indeed excellent, @eggandonion . 👍

Very chic Nazis!

Princess Alice led a very eventful life, with a lot of sadness.

Maireas · 24/07/2025 17:39

Absolutely.

I don't know how free the women would have been to choose husbands. Would their father have encouraged them to marry German aristocrats...would they have chosen husbands with money and a castle as Philips father wasn't a great provider? I would like to know more about them and their husbands and families.
What an ideology though for people to follow. I take that point.

Because of Prince Philip's mother's involvement with Jews in World War II in 1988, her remains were moved to the Eastern orthodox convent burial ground on the mount of Olives in Jerusalem. Strange how she was helping Jews while her daughters husband's were opposing this.

Yes, I remember seeing pictures of Philip going to Jerusalem to visit his mother's grave. Quite the contrast in one family..

They all look good, if slightly funereal.

Maireas · 24/07/2025 21:30

Yes. It's not a summery look.

Are those kitten heels that Camilla is wearing? On grass 🤔

It appears so! Brave lady - as I may have said before, I’d make a terrible royal, not least for my inability to walk in heels. 😂

I quite like the bag. A bit of a departure from the sturdy leather Launer number that was the signature of the late Queen 😆

Choux · 25/07/2025 10:51

It is a change from Launer. I doubt she bought a Rixo bag for herself. Perhaps a gift from her daughter?

Princess Anne opened a new tyre warehouse in Daventry. (A future life of royal duties like this was probably a factor in the Sussexes wanting to leave!)

I quite like the cream jacket and it’s very versatile but the skirt seems like a length which was fashionable 15 years ago. I imagine it was dug out from the depths of the wardrobe. Her trademark hairdo also seems very bouffy here but for a 75 year old she’s making an effort and looking good. She also seems happy to be there.

Anne reminds me so much of my late Aunt. Very sensible dresser. A tweed skirt and a good blouse or classic knit, would take you almost anywhere in her opinion. She did pop on a dress for a Sumner Sunday or a wedding. She always looked smart and appropriate.

Maireas · 25/07/2025 11:45

I think Anne goes for clothes which are "serviceable". I actually like the white jacket.
At first I thought she was wearing a hat, but it's her hair, a high coiffeur! .
That's an impressive number of tyres. No doubt she did her homework on them

OP posts:
chesterelly1 · 25/07/2025 12:29

I like the pattern of Anne’s skirt but I do wonder if her thought process was “tyres hmmm, yes that floral skirt from 1987 is giving black circles”.
My DM’s dedication to backcombing increased to counteract a bit of thinning. Perhaps that’s what we’re seeing with the extra bouffant? There is very little grey showing. I’m assuming no dye?

Maireas · 25/07/2025 12:34

She loves a bit of back combing. I suspect that flat hair is something of an anathema to her. As is hair straightening.

Maybe she is aiming for a sort of in built tiara? 😆

Choux · 25/07/2025 16:19

She also then went on to a Hindu community charity to present them with a King’s Award. She made sure the top part of her outfit would coordinate with the flower ‘lei’.

Nice! I like her earrings. I wonder what she did to her thumb?
