I’ve called it S&B as there’s usually discussion of nice food, socks, jewellery and other item ACs as well.

Sounds like last year when some people had to pay for them again. If the payments have been returned they probably can't reclaim them automatically. I hope it's not the same palaver of needing to cancel the order and then re order to make it work.

You'd hope they'd learned from last year but I'm beginning to wonder.

The money for my calendar has never shown as pending - it was just taken out of my account and the status hasn’t changed. Surely they can’t have cocked up the orders again this year?! It was because of problems with some orders not being fulfilled thst I ended up going to Harrods last year to make sure I got one, and finding myself in the middle of the fighting - I really don’t want to have to do that again this year!

Oh I hope not. 😣 You would hope they learnt from last year, wouldn’t you?
I just checked my bank account and it looks like the money has gone back in, whereas yesterday the amount was still deducted despite the purchase no longer showing as pending.

@OvaHere and @RainbowZebraWarrior - I am a member of Anthro Perks although they never send me anything. When I tried to log in today it said my password was wrong, (although recognised I had an account).

When I finally logged on there was no sign of any £20 voucher for me 😿 Plus, when I tried to join the waitlist for the calendar, a banner came up saying I was already a member!

Oh well - I guess that’s £3.95 saved 😹Thanks for sharing, anyway.

I purchased the Harrods beauty AC yesterday and the money has gone straight out. On my account it says order pending, which makes sense as I think it’s due for despatch around 20th August.

I’m still tempted by the Liberty one

I'm not sure what's causing me the most anticipatory anxiety at the moment. Advent calendars or DS's impending A level results. I'm using one to occupy my thoughts from the other. I'm hoping August delivers both a dream SpaceNK calendar and a first choice Uni place.

Please don't let me have used all my good karma up on the Harrods fragrance calendar. 🙏😂

@OvaHere it is all frivolous and I worry we encourage people to spend, but it is a great distraction from life’s stressors. I treat it like fantasy football. Who are the main players? What prices? Any new brands appearing? What’s going to sell out first? 2023, the year of bargains, was after the first Cost of Living crisis year so I think a lot of people cut back on their spending in all areas. Some of us have got to know each other quite well over the years of discussion too.

Re Harrods…I’ve had my money back into my account although the orders are still pending on Harrods website.
I’m not sure I want to go through the same debacle as last year, all the chasing and phoning.

Thank you @BakeOffRewatchfor this thread. I love reading about the advent calendars just as much as I enjoy opening them. It was Mumsnet that first introduced me to all this back in 2021 I think with H&B, which felt very indulgent. As a parent Christmas had become about doing stuff for everyone else and this was just for me, which ridiculous as it sounds seemed very naughty.
Since that first one I dipped my toe into the high end boxes with Liberty and Fortnum’s, then back to H&B last year.
My dream advent would be lots of bath and body, a bit of makeup (no black eye liner though) because I like to have a play with something new, and no serums as they mostly upset my skin and I should learn my lesson and stick to Clarins. A few perfumes are good and Candles as I like things that smell nice. I don’t mind the odd gimmick like a scrunchie or a bracelet either. And finally there needs to be £1000 of value for a fifth of the price. I’m not sure this exists.

This does sound a bit like what happened last year, although they’ve had a year to sort it out!

Maybe this is Harrods new sales tactic - causing customers as much stress and anxiety as possible so that they are more grateful when they eventually receive the product 😂

I’ve never known anything like it, usually any preorders are just taken and are put through as a normal transaction. It seems pretty inept for such a high end retailer.
Last year made me really angry, this year I’m a bit more meh! Ask me again in a week though 😂

I’ve caved and ordered Liberty! Joined the beauty drop ( albeit later than I had planned!) so had £100 plus the £25 off and free delivery, had another look this morning and despite there being a LOT of fragrance, there is an awful lot I’ll use and am excited to try. Ridiculously I didn’t want to potentially miss out as none of the others announced so far remotely float my boat! On the waitlist for Space NK as that was the one that got away last time, then that’s it!! Thanks

Did everyone still get the calendar if they phoned to pay? Do they email you? I'm not what to expect as I didn't order last year.

Yes, they allocated your order..so it was saved for you. They sent an email and then people phoned CS to make the payment again..but getting through to CS was a bit like phoning HMRC 😂

Phew! As long as I don't need to go to London with my boxing gloves 🤣🥊🥊 I do wish I'd used PayPal now though. If I pre-order the beauty one, I think I'll use paypal for that, although I probably won't order that until next month when it won't matter then.

Maybe next year PayPal is the way forward.

Ah so do you think they will email regarding the payment and then we will have to call and pay or should I be contacting them myself before they cancel my order?

I would contact them to try and get ahead of whatever might be going on.
