Here’s a new thread!

Does it count if you buy from the shop @ScottishMouse?
I haven't bought this year. Much of what I did buy was in the sale and most returned minus 2 dresses.
I did however buy the dungarees full price. I would be seriously PO if they took it away as ive been a customer for years and years!

ScottishMouse · 03/08/2025 08:48

I have no idea @neveradullmoment99. I would hope so. It’s all linked to the same account, but 🤷‍♀️

neveradullmoment99 · 03/08/2025 08:53

I do love the navy dress with ochre flowers. However, I haven't purchased as I really don't wear many dresses now. It is quite Joules like!

Stravaig · 03/08/2025 09:03

@RockaLock @Boiledeggandtoast Ah, it feels pretty crappy, and seems to happy without rhyme or reason. A couple of years ago for me, and I've been a customer since the early years. Welcome to the super secret highly exclusive ex-Kindred hangout :D

Did they pull the whole 'We are delighted to offer you this most wonderful opportunity to purchase our special Toast Post Pass' bollocks?

Boiledeggandtoast · 03/08/2025 09:21

@Stravaig Thank you, that made me laugh and makes me feel much better! (I've also been with them since the early years.) And yes, they did!!

I'm currently feeling very petty and thinking that this may cure me of my Toast habit, but I suspect I will be back when I've calmed down.

RockaLock · 03/08/2025 09:22

@Stravaig so they’ve not reinstated you at any point? 😢 And yes, they did indeed invite me to “renew my pass” at a cost of £15 Hmm

So when I think about it, they are prepared to piss off customers for the sake of £15. I don’t know, it seems a bit shortsighted to me. I was going to buy a t shirt that I already have in another colour, but I probably won’t bother now because the postage cost in comparison to the t shirt cost is a bit steep!

Stravaig · 03/08/2025 09:49

@Boiledeggandtoast Only the loveliest people are ex-Kindred, ssshh don't tell :D

@RockaLock No reinstatement, and as it coincides with years of ongoing illness, no income, and slow spiral into poverty, I'm not going to be buying my way back into favour any time soon - if that is indeed a criteria. As you say, can't even console with small things, because the added postage seems an unjustifiably large proportion on top.

It's such an odd thing to do - we've talked about it on here before, after a previous cull winnowing, but couldn't figure a sensible rationale. It creates such bad feeling.

Can't believe they're still using that passive-aggressive and highly manipulative wording!

gobbl · 03/08/2025 10:02

Long time lurker, kindred survivor, come to ask a question. Love reading everyone’s opinions but due to my work and care responsibilities barely ever have time to visit a store these days. I can’t stop thinking about this skirt https://www.toa.st/collections/womens-new-collection/products/space-dyed-check-wrap-skirt-golden-brown
has anyone seen it irl? Is the fabric fairly substantial? Is it woven or printed? I’m hoping it’s woven and slightly irregular. Would it suit me, menopausal 5ft 6 size 14? Would really appreciate opinions.

@Boiledeggandtoast just realised my last post was a bit ambiguous. I meant I returned everything I bought in the last month not absolutely everything 😁. Just been through my orders it appears I’ve kept just over £2,500 of things 😳.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 03/08/2025 10:23

That’s since my last Kindred renew.

Boiledeggandtoast · 03/08/2025 10:42

@Theteapotsbrokenspout 😂 I see what you mean!

I wish there was a gift Kindred option
It would be the best pressie ever and they still get their £15
I suspect I might be for The Chop shortly 😂

I just don't have the need or the room and am on a strictly one in one out basis .

Glad others agree about the florals, I actually have worn quite a bit of Joules in the past in my horsey days, the unobtrusive non sequinned pheasant jumper stuff

Stoic123 · 03/08/2025 11:39

I suspect I'll be a candidate for culling when Jan (my renewal) comes round - I've bought a few things (sales and full price) this year but much, much less than previous years (since I've been a member).

The problem (or not) is that I've now built a wardrobe of clothes that I enjoy wearing - mainly Toast. There have been a lot of expensive lessons along the way as I've learnt the difference between liking things in theory vs wearing them in practice. I have run put of beds for new linen / quilts, do not need any more Xmas decorations and I only have one pair feet requiring socks.

Stravaig · 03/08/2025 11:48

@Poplinskirt Gift Kindred is a great idea. They could make a lovely wee gesture of it, and it would protect the sense of community they supposedly but not at all care about.

MsDastardley · 03/08/2025 13:17

Does anyone know if Kindred members are charged postage on store orders 😀

faustina · 03/08/2025 13:41

@MsDastardley I was charged once, ages ago but I ordered something by phone from a store a month ago and the postage was free. So the answer from me is maybe!

Countmeout · 03/08/2025 13:45

@MsDastardley yes. I ordered the blue skirt from store as it was unavailable online. It’s 4-95. They only use DPD. I think that’s cheapish for DPD. I suggest Royal Mail as they’re usually very efficient for me but she explained stores only have the DPD option.

MsDastardley · 03/08/2025 14:41

Thanks @faustina and @Countmeout I only want a tee shirt so will perhaps leave for now.

I've just had mine renewed - when I originally got it I was totally baffled, as I had stopped being a regular Toast shopper years previously and didn't know what Kindred was. This year I've bought just one thing full price, I think, and a few things in the sale.

Maybe they give it to people who don't buy much, so they don't have to fork out on loads of free postage!

I've only seen that skirt online, @gobbl, and first spotted it a couple of days ago, but it's a standout piece for me. At 5ft 2 I am, as ever, too short for it. But your height sounds perfect. The shape looks good for menopausal bodies - neither tight nor too full.

IlovePond · 03/08/2025 17:18

@Countmeout - that bowl is quite orangey.

In-store purchases ‘count’ towards Kindred if you make a point of telling them to link to your account- they NEVER seem to ask you without being nudged.

@RockaLock and @Boiledeggandtoast - it might be worth calling CS and saying how ‘disappointed’ you are, given you have bought x, y and z throughout the year. I know someone on here did that once and got reinstated.

I got renewed, but I really haven’t bought much this year. It all seems rather random. (I did spend a lot in the April sample sale, though - so that was probably it🙀)

I am enjoying this chat about body size in menopause and being kind to ourselves, I can relate to it too, so, so much.

I had a little trip to Toast yesterday to look at some of the new drop. I specifically wanted to look at the two new skirts - the space dyed check wrap skirt, and the painted tweed cotton linen skirt.

The wrap skirt is lovely - woven fabric with the pattern printed on @gobbl , and I may yet purchase it in the future, BUT the 12 was very snug on the waist. I consider myself to be an average 12, menopausal but not with a huge waist. I was with my DH so didn’t want to linger too much but should have tried on a 14. So, the summary is, I think the waist is snug on it but it is a lovely skirt.

The painted tweed cotton linen skirt is a work of art. The fit is perfect and although it has an elasticated waist, it doesn’t bunch up like some of the Toast waists, but stays flat. It is the print of the fabric that is so lovely, really looking like it’s been painted. I tried on the matching top too and wish I hadn’t as it too is exquisite, looks great with the skirt but would also look perfect with some plain trousers or another skirt. I came away with both pieces, plus an unexpected piece - I tried on the cotton jersey shift dress in washed black and the cut is really flattering, skims the curves without being too clingy, well placed slightly front of side pockets, and just generally felt very good. I wondered it the medium was a tad small but the large swamped and when I retried the medium it felt much better. It is very long on me, longer than the model suggests, and I am 5ft 5 so not particularly short. I think I will get lots of wear out of it.

I also tried on the two botanical shadow flower tops, initially in the blue but ultimately preferred the green. I now can’t get a Joules top out of my head (nothing wrong with Joules but it isn’t a brand I buy from) but I was tempted by the green one. They are thin and malleable poplin (ie, not too structured) and I tried the medium and the small thinking the medium was a bit big but they are a slightly oversized fit and the small was a weeny bit too small. I would probably have favoured a size between the two. I really liked the top, and the dresses in the same print looked very nice too but I didn’t try them on as it isn’t the time of year to be buying a half sleeved dress.

I also tried on a Chloe tee shirt: I already have a couple but love the cut of them. I didn’t buy one though as I had spent enough.

Staff at Hampstead were super helpful and the shop was busy.

My husband bought me the Helena Rohner Miyuki Oval Necklace in tomato as part of my birthday present. It is delicate but lovely.

ToastCosILoveIt · 03/08/2025 17:35

PS, my Toast pass expires in January and I will be fuming if it isn’t renewed as Toast is my main source of clothes and I have (too many) lots.

Bimblesalong · 03/08/2025 18:11

I too am enjoying the supportive chat. I am a different shape all over after surgery and chemo for my cancer (thankfully currently gone). Clothes and textiles bring me a lot of pleasure.

We don’t have a Toast anywhere near where I live. However, I’m on holiday in a couple of weeks and have put a visit to the Toast shop into our schedule so I can stroke the new garments.
