4160T Aqua Tofana today. I really must get around to buying another bottle of this before they withdraw it, since it was only ever a special edition. Doesn't last for ages but I love the slightly unsettling wormwood in it.

HolidayHattie · 27/06/2025 19:44

Flower by Kenzo. It's been my go to perfume for donkeys years. DH bought me a big bottle for Christmas so I really ought to use it, even though I have all the new and exciting things to try.

I do still like it, just not as much as I used to.

OvaHere · 27/06/2025 21:01

There's some quite substantial fragrance discounts on Selfridges at the min. Quite a lot of high end lines so still not cheap but a decent discount.

Magpiecomplex · 27/06/2025 21:10

Next three 4160T to be retired are Lemon Sherbet, Maxed Out, and Inevitable Crimes of Passion.
Bit of a shame I've only just realised Lemon Sherbet sounds right up my street! I'll resist the temptation to get a bottle in the retirement sale.

Back to Kayali today. Eden Juicy Apple on one wrist, Eden Sparkling Lychee on the other. They both smell very synthetic to me. I am getting some apple from the former but the latter smells nothing like lychee.

Trying out bal d’afrique again. I like it a little bit more each time but there’s a slight soapiness in it that I can’t put my finger on that’s slightly off putting for me. It’s not citrus forward like I was expecting. Might be the African orange flower or jasmine which I don’t usually like. Apparently they’ve released an absolu version of it as I know the longevity isn’t great

Zoetrope1 · 29/06/2025 01:12

Fragrance du Bois Minuit et Demi today. It’s a spicy, caramelly vanilla. Cosy but not too sweet. They don’t smell the same but I think if you like Gris Charnel you’ll also enjoy this.

It’s interesting how there is so much variation in how fragrances are perceived. I personally don’t like clean / soapy scents but I love Bal d’Afrique. I get a bright, lemon citrus and I don’t pick up on the soapy vibes. It must be me though - Byredo is known for its clean scents but Gypsy Water doesn’t smell clean to me either!

It is weird how body chemistry and our individual sense of smell affects it. Last week, during a testing session round at my friend's, I tried one and said "That doesn't work on my skin; it's not for me.' She said that she liked it on me. Same perfume, same skin, different nose.

Kayali Vacay in a Bottle today . Maldives on the left and Maui on the right. I like them better than yesterday's Eden fruit ones.

paristotokyo · 29/06/2025 15:01

@Zoetrope1yes it’s very interesting. I’d have loved for it to have been bright and citrusy. I don’t get on with white florals though so I think I’m picking up on those more than anything else. Gypsy water I also wasn’t that keen on at first but need to re sample it. It’s fun to try.

Have you tried find comfort by rare beauty? Very similar to BDA but not as sharp. By the same perfumer. I much prefer it and it's a lot cheaper!

Herrera good girl today. Getting slightly obsessed with GG and all the flankers!

Trying 7 Virtues Cherry Ambition today. From the notes they give - cherry, saffron, vanilla marshmallow - I was expecting something Kayali-like, but what it actually reminds me of is Angel’s Share. It’s definitely got the same warm, boozy pie filling thing going on, except cherry pie rather than apple pie.

I’ve tried a few of the other 7 Virtues scents now and several of them have a very similar vanilla dry down, just with different (usually fruity) top notes. Vanilla Woods reminds me of Phlur Vanilla Skin.

Sounds lovey. I love cherry as a note.

Very good girl glam... cherry , fruity, less bold than elixir or original good girl. I like it. Lovely for summer and probably office friendly too.

SOTE: Ouai Dean Street, from the recent Cult Beauty Spritz and Go Kit.

From the notes listed on Fragrantica, I thought I would love it - linden blossom, apricot, musk/ magnolia, citruses, rose, amber. Thought it would be refreshing after my shower on a hot evening but it's nasty. Smells like fly spray and it's making me cough. Very unpleasant indeed. Scrubbing it off. Anyone want the rest of my sample?

Well you're not exactly selling it here...😂

I haven't tried that one from the kit yet.

I went out for the day so made an effort and showered in Mojave Ghost shower gel then used the perfume. It lasts pretty well when I do that.

As discussed on here recently, things smell very different on different people so it might suit someone else. Some reviewers on Fragrantica like it (although one says bug spray, same as me.)

Zoetrope1 · 30/06/2025 01:28

Vilhelm Purple Fig today. Not a photorealistic fig or fig tree scent, didn’t like this originally but enjoying it today. It’s green, somewhat fruity and quite clean smelling, a little aldehydic.

paristotokyo · 30/06/2025 04:03

@IDontHateRainbowsYes, I do actually have find comfort! I find it stronger than bal but without the soapiness and fc is more musky? I prefer it too I think, but will do a side by side test now you’ve mentioned it

I'm sure it will suit some people. Your description just made me laugh. I'll have to try it and see if I'm one of the people it gives bug spray on. Quite a few popular scents smell like kitchen spray on me so it's definitely subjective.

paristotokyo · 30/06/2025 12:33

Vyrao the sixth. Think I got this in the cult edit a few months ago but never got round to testing it. It’s aromatic and green.. but reminds me
of toilet spray! Not pleasant to me to wear as a fragrance. Wish there was more basil and mint or apple which are all listed as notes. Really not feeling it. Unfortunately can’t pass it on to anyone so I’ll use it as a linen or bathroom spray.
