@Zoetrope1ah I see! I can see why someone would actually and@AprilLadyI don’t live in the uk anymore so have major fomo over the scent edits and beauty boxes that come out 😂

AprilLady · 24/06/2025 08:51

@paristotokyo what a pity! I think we are pretty spoiled in the UK with Beauty boxes, GWPs and advent calendars, even if the GWPs aren’t quite as amazing as they were a few years ago.

Yesterday's Kayali faded much quicker than the Zara so maybe I won't be investing in a larger sample.

Today I have Kayali vanilla on one wrist and vanilla candy rock sugar on the other. The former is ok but nothing special and the latter smells very chemical/artificial to me, so neither are contenders.

IDontHateRainbows · 24/06/2025 15:06

Sunset hour on one hand and afternoon delight on the other.

I'm not bothering with Replica again, the scents are so weak and fade so quickly - I know I'm probably a bit noseblind but I've gone through half of the tube already!

I do like afternoon delight but I'd be getting through a full bottle per week at this rate!

Sunset hour is lovely and a bit stronger. Lovely fruity scent, like a cocktail .

@AprilLadyyep, definitely true. I follow all the beauty threads 🙈 I really need to unfollow as I love a good edit. Tbf the skincare here is awesome but not that great on the fragrance front

HolidayHattie · 24/06/2025 16:41

Well, I did it. This just arrived. I hope I still like it.

Scent of the day part Four - the friendly perfumistas still perfuming!
Brienneoftarthismyhero · 24/06/2025 17:49

So happy to have discovered this thread. I need to try Tom Ford neroli- do they have it at duty free? I love the scent of neroli so am very intrigued and I’ll be at Heathrow and CDG next week.

Today I’m wearing So scandal by JPG - it’s my happy scent that takes me back to a wonderful holiday last year. I need it today as feeling sick with what feels like covid but who knows?!

HolidayHattie · 24/06/2025 18:03

Yes, that's where I tried it. I imagine every duty free will have Tom Ford but in my experience, (not LHR or CDG though, ) the testers are often empty!

If you read back through this thread you'll see that I have been on a neroli discovery trail. I didn't find any I liked as much as the Tom Ford.

I hope you don't have Covid; it will scupper your plans if you lose your sense of smell.

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 24/06/2025 18:11

I will report back once I’ve been, keeping everything crossed I don’t lose my sense of smell. I had it last year and was horrible. I usually stay away from Tom Ford because of the price tag, but would be tempted for neroli…. Will read through the rest of the thread about the neroli discovery.

I'm not an expert at describing scents, and obviously I was limited to the samples I already had.

IDontHateRainbows · 25/06/2025 08:30

BDK Gris Charnel Extrait today from an old sample I'd forgotten about (in the deluge of new samples I seem to acquire on a weekly basis!)

Its lovely spicy and reminscent of the original GC which I fell in love with last winter thanks to @MiaN actually !

Its probably not a very summery scent but hey ho the sun seems to have left us this week for better climes.

Not too much going on in the world of perfume samples and kits these days think the big stores are probably thinking about their advent and scent calendars which although we are 6 months off christmas will be available to buy in September which is just over 2 months away. I predict Liberty will do a scent calendar this year - maybe that will explain the lack of scent kits?

I tried good few in my last browse around the shops
Pleasing Happy Accident - gorgeous juicy citrus. Not very lasting, like most citruses.
Dior Prive - Lucky - loved that
Le Labo Eucalyptus - lovely but would rather smell it on man
YSL Babycat - honestly I prefer Pentagons Babylon by far
Jo Malone Raspberry Ripple - hm... ok I guess. Not for that price, but kind of cute

SillyMillie90 · 25/06/2025 11:27

Coach Wild Rose. Got a sample after hearing so many good things about it. At first it smelt like every other perfume seems to at the moment (i.e Valentino Bella Donna born in roma) but when it dried down it had a mix of BR540 mixed with Delina. Which works really well! Going to spray it again now to see if I’ve changed my mind on this.

HolidayHattie · 25/06/2025 15:36

Neroli Portofino. Yes, I still like it, but I'm not convinced that it's really worth the almost £100 it cost. Ah well, it's done now.

Another spray and it has dried down and yep I love it. Kind of more like Ariana Grande Cloud (similar to BR540 but lighter) mixed with Delina.

L'Occitane Verveine today to wake me up!

I enjoy this one!

This sounds lovely!

It is, it’s fresh and light but also long lasting. Highly Recommended, have a sniff if you can!

potplantsinparadise · 26/06/2025 10:55

I picked up the M&S beauty bag yesterday, so got to try their Sweet Frangipane, and the Floral St 'Electric Rhubarb'.

Unexpectedly, I loved the Frangipane more - I'd read that it's a Gucci Rush dupe but I don't know what that smells like, so??? It's a very sweet slightly powdery floral; so something I would have bought otherwise but I love it - can imagine dousing myself in it on an incredibly hot day, drinking a strong fruity cocktail and feeling extremely pleased with life. I think it def comes into its own with some body heat underneath it.

Electric Rhubarb has the nicest opening, like an elegant woody rhubarb, but then it just - vanishes. Going to try again today when not so hot, but very sad if that one only lasts for 10 seconds.

I'm starting to think they may do an advent on the back of the Harrods popularity. It would make a lot of sense.

They are still trying to push the mega expensive fragrance lounge edit which anyone with a spare £425 lying about can buy! I did buy it to sell on most of the contents keeping the vanilla powder and a couple of the smaller ones for myself but I barely made my money back as some of the fragrances were a bit obscure. The 12 days of fragrance calendars which HN and Harrods did were much better value.

Sunset hour for me today. I picked up the John Lewis Jet Set kit in the sale, which has alien goddess and arizona bloom in along with some beauty stuff. I think arizona bloom is a beachy type vanilla which will work for this time of year. I've had alien goddess before and quite liked it but it's nothing special.

Penhaligon's Luna today. Sherbet lemons and roses. Makes me happy.

Zoetrope1 · 27/06/2025 02:12

Trying Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille and Jovoy Remember Me today.

SDV is a deep, resinous vanilla scent. Dry down smells like vanilla extract to me. Really lovely. Reminds me of Fire at Will, will have to do a side by side comparison.

Remember Me is a milky tea scent with cardamom and citrus notes in the opening and a vanilla extract like dry down. Luckily it’s not too lactonic. It’s pleasant but not my favourite tea scent. In the warm, cosy tea category I think my favourite is Memo Winter Palace.
