Santal 33 today, an old favourite. It probably needs no introduction - it’s spicy, green and woody. Some people get dill pickle vibes. I find that a light hand is needed otherwise it becomes overwhelming - one spray to the chest is more than enough.

paristotokyo · 26/07/2025 07:52

@IDontHateRainbowsI totally loved nest indigo but I’ve been turned off it recently. It doesn’t work for me in the humidity, it’s a little sickly which I’m sad about

IDontHateRainbows · 26/07/2025 08:15

Rose of no man's land today, although i should call it Nose of no man's land as I think I'm getting nose blind..not the perfumes fault!

Going away tomorrow so I'll have to be selective and take just a few favorites, luckily I have mainly travel sizes in my collection.

Ooh what to pick for a selection... thinking mat prem vanilla, maybe sunset hour and dear polly. Something a bit oudy maybe like hera Reigns.

Re the nest indigo, maybe it'll grow on me. Autumn I may crave more earthy scents. Right now it's juicy fruits and sweet but light ones calling to me.

The Ellis Brooklyn discovery kit has been a bit of a disappointment if I'm honest. The scents are all a bit meh, nothing amazingly good.

I have gone for JHAG vanilla vibes today. A lovely summery vanilla, similar to Replica beach walk. Not got on with many JHAGs this is definitely my fave

Bath and Body Works Dark Velvet Oud today. This is my favourite of theirs. Similar vibes to Fugazzi Cash Flower and Lush Rose Jam to me.

Gris Charnel description sounds wonderful. I too find Nest Indigo a bit sweet. Oddly my favourite from the Nests in the Cult Beauty boxes was the Balinese Coconut oil. Not sweet at all, almost green.

IDontHateRainbows · 26/07/2025 21:01

Nest always seem overpriced for what they are.. same category as phlur or ellis brooklyn, middle of the road perfumes at niche house prices.

I'm getting to the point where unless it's cheap on ebay is rather spend £30 or whatever they cost on a large size sample from perfumista.

They do seem to make their way into s fair few edit/ boxes though.

Carolina herrera good girl is SOT evening. I'm definitely going through a phase with this one.

It’s funny, Nest Indigo wasn’t a love at first sniff for me either. There’s something slightly dusty or grandma smelling in the dry down that doesn’t agree with me. But it smells incredible on my husband and it has decent sillage and longevity. Really enjoy the jammy fruity whiffs I get throughout the day when he wears it.

IDontHateRainbows · 27/07/2025 06:26

Replica from.the garden today. This is a strange one. Quite must and dusty and vegetal, at first I don't like it but then it grows, like the garden after which it is named.

I find Replica a love hate house for me. Adore afternoon delight and autumn vibes. Beach walk ok. Used to like fireplace but not so much last year ( it's definitely a winter scent as the name suggests).
They never seem to last long I will say.

Caved and pre ordered the liberty AC. There's a few scents in there I will try, zepherine, blue talisman and sparkling jo by vilhelm. It's due to be despatched 20th Aug which is ridiculously early for an AC but I can't imagine that many people actually wait until December do they? I rip them open the minute they land...

after saying the ellis brooklyn ones weren't much good I've found one I like -Salt, which despite the name isn't as I thought - I thought it would be a fresh/aquatic but it's quite floral, bit of amber, has that beachy vibe so possibly some vanilla.

It's weak as hell as all of them from this house are but it's the most pleasant one from the set. I wouldn't buy it but let's say if I found one in the street it would definitely get used.

Tried the nest indigo one again and it's definitely not for me. So much so that if anyone reading this wants it, PM me your address and I'll send it on. its the 8ml purse spray. Had a couple of spritzes/#.

Had a bit of a hiatus while on holiday but trying Tocca Belle today. Fairly generic light citrus with virtually no staying power at all, so I won't be buying more of this.

purplesproutingbroc · 27/07/2025 23:30

Not wearing anything because I've had my Replica Jazz Club candle on all afternoon and it's very strong. I loved From the Garden when I sprayed it instore but I think I would prefer to have it in candle form than on myself. I do love tomato leaf though. Some Arkive haircare products have an amazing tomato leaf scent - saw online they are doing them as fragrances - on my wishlist.

Ah I really want to try the smoky Replicas. I love smoke, leather, incense etc.
I’m trying not to buy samples though so I need to take myself off somewhere to smell them irl.

IDontHateRainbows · 28/07/2025 06:00

Dear polly today, lemon tea basically describes this scent.
Best of the vilhelms I've tried so far although I'm keen to try poets of Berlin one time

Decided I adore deep cherry scents so on the look out for one for autumn although will have to be a large sample size not fb. Van cleef have a new one out. Also rouge smoking extrait is on my list.

Really I should be on a buying ban til Sept as I have quite a few to use up already and some I've half forgotten about.

But having an addictive personality with less benign addictions in the past ( food/ drink mainly) a bit of me is like... what the hell at least this ones a lot better .

Do you like tobacco scent? That's another I was surprised to find myself loving. Definitely more for winter but tobacco vanille is lovely. Strong though.

I know what you mean! I oscillate between wanting to try new scents and feeling the need to use up and not waste my large collection of samples and travel sizes. I’ve been pretty good at limiting my full bottle collection but even then, I have enough juice to last several years.

QueefofSheena · 28/07/2025 09:17

@IDontHateRainbows I can’t tell the difference between Poets of Berlin and the Floral St vanilla one. I’ve got both and sprayed them on each wrist, no one else could tell either. I think PoB might be more long lasting.

I’ve still got a huge collection of 8-10ml bottles due to last year’s perfume AC splurge. I need to go through and sort them into summer, winter and ‘out-out’ 😁

I love the Van Cleef Moonlight Cherry - not seen any smaller samples in any scent kits of any of the Van Cleef fragrances - though I did notice small aromas now have it in stock for 1/2/3/5ml decants

Millymollymine · 28/07/2025 09:45

SOTD Discotheque Lola at Coat Check - Its the only sandalwood I like - creamy - chocolate - powdery - I loved the Discotheque sample box well worth getting when cult beauty have the 20% off codes

Yeah it's quite expensive by the ml.
Scent samples also have it but they have shit reviews.

Very wary of buying from samples services unless they have good reviews as so easy to water the frag down or adulterate it.

Perfumista is good and has decent glass atomisers but they don't stock those one unfortunately.

Same! My tastes change both seasonally and over time.
New influx of ACs coming so a sort out/ use up is due.

Trying Floral Street Arizona Bloom today. Described as a dry floral amber, it smells nice in the bottle but has gone a bit acrid on me.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 28/07/2025 13:18

I need advice. I gave dd a sample of Escentric Molecule Black Tea. She wore it and omg, it's Cosmetics to Go Ginger-my signature scent from the 80/90s. But...I don't have EM budget. Can you wise noses help me scratch my nostalgic itch?

There's a few of the larger size samples on ebay/ vinted as it was in a scent kit recently. Around £12 or so if that's within reach?

Sot evening is sunset hour, appropriate as I'm on holiday and going out for the evening. Alas nowhere tropical like the name suggests.

@trainedopossum I do think Jazz Club and By the Fireplace are my two favourite Replicas - some people say they are super smokey but I don't find this, they have a strong vanilla base to me. Sometimes I prefer them as candles though so I can really appreciate them instead of becoming noseblind.
