Style problems I hate.

I hate...shops that size their clothing 12/14 and 16/18.
The first is too small and the 2nd is massive.
Also one size fits all. I beg to differ, one size fits nobody.
Any pet hates?

Shirts and blouses in gorgeous fabrics that don't have bust darts. (ZARA!) That's fine if you are B cup or smaller but D cup makes every shirt look like a matronly tent, however small your waist is underneath.

I have so many shirts I love that don't look good because I am not flat chested.

it should be easy to put darts in - put the shirt on inside out and use pins or sewing clips to fold out and secure the darts where you want them. Then sew - or an alterations person could do it.

Not for me but for my DS: he is nearly 16, the smallest men's trousers and shorts in many shops are just too big, and the the largest kids ones are just too small. I know the problem will resolve in time, and also you can get the right size (for him it is 15 years) in some places like Next online, but it does limit where we can shop and the choices.

I remember that. It seemed like boys aged 14-16 weren't supposed to exist. Nowhere sold clothes for them. I ended up shopping in Primark because the XS men's trousers were just about skinny enough to fit teenage boys.

Mistyglade · 27/05/2025 00:41

Yep, sizes and cut. I’m an 11 with a big bust and not small waist. 10 too small 12 too big. Rarely does anything fit properly.

GellerYeller · 27/05/2025 00:53

Puffy sleeves: fine.
Puffy short sleeves with an elasticated frill: cheap with a hint of milkmaid.
Puffy long sleeves with an elasticated frill: cheap, dunks in your dinner if you’re not careful.

Why don’t shoes come in half sizes? I’m currently looking for some sandals to wear to a family wedding. My feet are slim and a pretty exact 36.5. 36 too small, 37 too large. That doesn’t stop sales assistants trying to sell them to me (“oh, they’ll stretch” “ oh, just get some gel inserts”)

EcruCardigan · 27/05/2025 12:57

@pepperaunt ,Because they get away with it.

Yup Im 5.5 E fit and I was in Clarks shoes today because it's the only place locally I can get that size. It's such a pain. I cannot wear full sizes they just don't fit.
Amazon is doing a lot of half sizes now that dont cost a fortune.

Is mine a style problem generally?! I don’t know but it’s a bastard problem to me. Shops, all the shops selling high waisted jean monstrosities. I want low rise please. Not all of us wish to look like a Minion. I am small with a small torso. I cannot wait until this horrid high waisted bullshit fashion fad has expired.

I find low rise incredibly uncomfortable as they cut into the widest part of me. I would be forever hitching my jeans up.

I understand that! But they fit me! But why, WHY can’t they have a multitude of different styles instead of alllll of them being high rise?! I look ridiculous!

Women's jackets. I wear a jacket for the pockets so I don't need to take a bag. But I like an inside pocket so I can slip my phone in and keep it safe. SO MANY women's jackets don't have any kind of an inside pocket, or if they do it's a teeny tiny one for a little womanly hankie or a lipstick or something.

I've had to resort to stitching my own pockets on some jackets.

Oh, and necklines that look lovely until you bend forward and everything falls out.

Sorry to derail but this is genius!! I love an inside pocket for the same reason and have never thought to sew one in - thank you 🤩

I think there are medium and high rise in the shops, but I haven't seen any low rise. That may be because I am not looking for low rise though.

Mollysocks · 29/05/2025 19:45

Yes OP!

I’m 12-14 and 10-12 is too small and 14-16 is too big! Really hate it.

I hate it when shops label their clothes S M L etc but then fail in the sizing guide to tell you whether a M is a 10, 12, 14 etc.

I hate the inconsistency of sizes within shops, H&M are the worst imo. I have clothes in XS - XL from them. I even bought the SAME pair of jeans in two colours and the same size, one fit once I couldn’t get past my hips.

I hate it when shops charge for deliveries when they are the issue as they can’t get their sizes consistent.

Can you tell clothing sizes annoy me 😆

The mid rise ones are as bad! The thing is I have a tiny torso! Almost none existent! Head, tits and then legs! I’m just not very big and anything more than low rise causes much material in my belly region! Ah!

I detest low rise.

they are so uncomfortable and I love high waisted as my waist is long

I hate that Manufacturers can’t seem to fathom that women can have big boobs and not measure 38+ around the band. Trying to get a comfortable bra in my size is difficult. Getting a non-wired bralette is impossible. I need a 32H. You’d think I was asking for the moon on a stick!

Edited

Oh this, this is an absolute pet hate of mine. I am a 32GG and if I want a non-wired bralette or sleep bra there are no high street options. Even in a 2xl, which drowns me, the cup size/coverage is completely inadequate.

TealReader · 30/05/2025 07:08

On bras- it’s hard to get large cup bras in plunge/half cup. 32GG here and after children and weight loss I’m a lot fuller on bottom than top!

I also want a pair of low rise black bootcut jeans, not in that thin stretchy fabric, something that won’t stretch throughout the day and end up a baggy shapeless mess. I have quite narrow hips for my size and find low cut (not super low I don’t want to flash my ass) fit me better and feel more comfortable.

Everything is mid or high rise.

ShiftySquirrel · 30/05/2025 08:31

I'm pretty much in proportion, 32DD boobs, smaller waist, size 14, bang on average height of 5ft 5. A nice shape even if I could lose a stone.

Every-bloody-thing looks matronly.
If I wanted to wear an unfitted shirt I'd wear DH's.
Tops seem to be too short, (ribbed t-shirts, looking at you M&S...) I'm 40s not 15.
The waist on anything, but particularly dresses, should not be under my boobs. I look like a sack tied in the middle.

To add insult to injury, I have a daughter who is a size 6, 5ft7 with very narrow feet and pretty flat chested. And finding clothes for her is a nightmare too!

You’d think after decades of boob jobs being a thing that they would cater more to big boobs small frame
