Been told by my son that the dress I bought is "basically white"
So I have to get a new one in 2 weeks.
Obviously I didn't think it was white or unsuitable when I got it but hey, I don't want conflict and upset.
It suits me so can anyone help me find an alternative in a size 10 please?

There are loads on Vinted too but it keeps crashing when I try to share.

It’s such a perfect MoG dress, and it’s “mineral” grey with cream overlay, it fits the brief of not being white. It seems bizarrely controlling to ask to see your dress OP. My mil wore a little fitted suit in a sort of creamy golden colour, with a cream hat. She looked very nice . It really wouldn’t have occurred to me to ask her what she intended wearing. That dress will absolutely not have you mistaken for a bride, but annoyingly you probably have to change it now that your son has asked, although I would point out that it’s grey.
I hope you can get the pink one.

Goodtick · 10/05/2025 20:39

Actually it’s not the same but very similar

MayaPinion · 10/05/2025 20:42

This is stunning.

If you already have the dress, like it and can’t send it back I might just dye it with a light grey so that the whole dress looks grey.

Pancakeflipper · 10/05/2025 21:04

I think it is totally fine. Stick a hat on, have a jacket and hand bag and you'll never be mistaken for a bride, or even trying to upstage a bride.

Snugglemonkey · 10/05/2025 21:35

That looks pretty bridal!

I mean the colour is described as ivory. I agree that it’s not bridal looking but can understand why they might want you to wear something different.

It’s described as mineral and ivory. Grey and ivory in other words. There is no rule about a dress having NO white on it. It like saying a blue and while polka dot dress is too white.

It’s mixed fibres. It’s unlikely to take colour evenly

The pink version of OP's dress is even 'whiter' than the grey! Same for the other pink one - looks like a wedding dress.

Overtheatlantic's Monsoon suggestion's fabulous.

Flossflower · 10/05/2025 21:50

I do think the dress looks quite bridal. I also think the pink one that someone posted does too.
OP, I really wouldn’t ask the bride what she thinks of the dress. You could be putting her in a difficult position,
When I was choosing a MOB dress, I sent a picture of one I was thinking about to my daughter and she said it was nearly white. It was pale green!! I then got the impression that she just didn’t want me wearing anything pale.

Blogswife · 10/05/2025 22:11

It’s a lovely dress . I’m MOB soon and I’d wear it , especially teamed with grey hat, shoes & bag! Very elegant .

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 10/05/2025 22:16

That's a gazillion times nicer than any other dress on this thread. Really nice dress.
