I'm not really one for yearly trends - most of my stuff is ancient/well-loved and fairly timeless - but I've just got my big bag of summer stuff out and it's weird how some of it is starting to look a bit off, somehow.

My denim jacket needs retiring for a while, I think - I put it on and it looked weirdly early 2000s, which has never bothered me before! I think a much wider silhouette for trousers is common now, but you'll have to pry my tapered linen cigarette pants from my cold dead hands. I also love simple mid-thigh shorts with pockets, and I still like how those look, but I'm a bit lost skirts and dresses-wise - don't really know what I want to wear this year in that regard. I could also do with a new casual jacket - maybe a sort of cropped chore jacket style with two front pockets. I'll have a look on Vinted.

What are you buying for spring/summer and what are you still wearing after 10/15 years?

Please can you link the wode leg trousers you mention right at the beginning of this thread? Or at least where they're from? I struggle with wide leg and they sound so perfect 😊

Is this to me @Hamster0005? If it's the wide/leg jeans I mention on the first page then it's the Fat Face Keswick crops in charcoal grey/faded black. However, a note of caution...my pair are from last year and I love them (size runs normal) BUT, I was looking at them in-store today and they were definitely a baggier shape in the dark denim I was looking at. So your mileage may vary! My old ones are very flattering though - the little front pockets make them look a bit cooler, I think.

I don’t think denim jackets will ever go out , obviously never worn with denim ..
I wear a lot of summer dresses, skirts with nice tops ..
All depends what’s flattering aswel on a person 🤷🏻‍♀️

@LaRevolution I echo what you say re the Keswick sizing. I bought the cord version last autumn, 2 pairs in a 12.
I took delivery today of the light denim jean version (the alternative colour being the dark denim you mention). Also in a 12 and they are massive. Not only that but that they really bloom out from the waist band, it looks quite rounded. I’m not sure if I have a rouge pair so have ordered a 10 to check.

Bellyblueboy · 19/04/2025 23:16

I have lost a lot of weight and need new clothes.

i am deliberately avoiding really on trend clothes but it is hard!

on trend this summer is waistcoats, cropped jackets, brown suede for jackets and bags, wide leg trousers, anything butter yellow, tops with ties in the front, boxer shorts style shorts 😳.

luckily timeless looks are also everywhere - think any Nancy Meyer film. Coastal Granny! Cream linen trousers, blue and white stripped shirts, close knit short sleeve tops. Mutted like beige, cream, camel. Trench coats (avoid the short ones - they will be landfill next year)

HarrietsweetHarriet · 20/04/2025 10:10

Honestly, I don't think many people notice what we wear. If I was ever to go missing, I know DH would have no idea what to say to the police about what I was wearing!
You can wear pretty much anything if you have confidence, nice clean hair and a smile.
Corny, I know, but I notice people's expressions / faces and hair far more than I notice their clothes.

Floisme · 20/04/2025 10:33

I’m the opposite to Harriet. I rarely notice faces or hair colour but I do check out clothes - it’s how I get a lot of my ideas.

That was exactly it - they didn't seem to be fitted flat all from the waistband/over the backside and hips 😳 how frustrating, I thought maybe I'd just seen a dodgy batch!

That's the beauty of Vinted though - there should be old pairs popping up, and you can always ask sellers when they bought them.

I tend to notice people's clothes if I really like what they are wearing and think I would love something similar or if they are wearing something really inappropriate for the occasion or the weather. I tend not to notice anything in between, and I never notice what kind of handbags people have because I can't get excited about a bag.

I still remember seeing a woman many years ago teetering on high stilettos on the rocky path to High Force waterfull in Teesdale. Everyone else was in trainers or walking boots.

Floisme · 20/04/2025 11:35

Yeah I agree with you about rarely noticing bags @RampantIvy The same goes for shoes, especially at the moment as trainers, and all discussions about them, bore me senseless. I guess I first notice coats, jackets and trousers as they’re what interest me the most.

I did Arthur's Seat with friends, I noticed a woman wearing open toed sandal/wedge things. By gum, she scaled it like a goat 😆

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 20/04/2025 12:09

I must say I hate it when something “classic” becomes fashionable, because while stuff I like to wear /colours that suit me will suddenly be everywhere and so easy to buy, I know I’ve got a couple of years before they look dated, then have to go another couple of years of being “out” before they go back to being a classic.

So it’s mixed feelings I keep seeing so much brown suede and dark brown leather woven items.

UpMyself · 20/04/2025 14:18

I always notice what shoes someone is wearing.
I only notice handbags if they are particularly good or bad.

I’m the same. Except I also note cheap (i.e badly made and/or not looked after) shoes and handbags. I especially notice DIRTY shoes (my father drummed it into me from an early age that you always put clean shoes on).

I did Arthur's Seat with friends, I noticed a woman wearing open toed sandal/wedge things.

That was almost me. Except I did it in heeled leather ankle boots. Clean ones obviously.😂In my defence, it was an impromptu visit when I hadn’t actually planned to step outside that afternoon let alone climb Arthur’s Seat but when a tall dark handsome man you’ve only just met offers you a spin in his sports car, who I am to say no?! 😉 Actually I was supposing to be writing my cv but my friend who was ‘helping’ was napping so when his hot flatmate asked me to go for a drive with him it wasn’t much of a contest.

I saw that white trainer and denim jacket mum meme. I like that look, and I’m happy to be a middle aged mum. It shouldn’t be an insult (which obviously, it’s intended to be).

"middle aged Mum's" have been round the block and learned what works for them. Be comfortable, be confident in your own style that reflects you, and not the promoters of fast fashion. If you feel good it shines through 😍

UpMyself · 20/04/2025 16:15

I don't think that's how they are using the expression. Smile

HorribleHisTories15 · 20/04/2025 20:01

@PeggyMitchellsCameoi‘ve never bought anything off Vinted either. #Staysolid

I have decided to have a whimsical summer. Lace, cream, pearls, overtly feminine style. I like the pastel checks and stripes for mid summer. I am embracing my femininity.

I love this. I recently bought a beautiful cream seersucker Maje dress via Vinted that has exactly this vibe. I need to make mine more of a monochrome look though as I don’t suit pastels and I am too likely to spill coffee to be in head to toe white day to day.

LaRevolution · 22/04/2025 18:06

Love a bit of seersucker, @BangingOn! Do you have a pic?

I'm still looking for an ecru midi denim skirt. Anyone?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 13/04/2025 10:20

I could actually quite go for a lace or bubble hem skirt.

I'd just like to report, 8 pages in, that I got my lace maxi skirt and I loves it :)

It is so lovely and light! Much nicer than in the photo and a Vinted bargain. I feel less guilty over my Vinted addiction when I find some like this for £15.

What colour did you go for? I love a lace or bubble hem maxi. I have a white bubble hem skirt from Zara last summer that I’m looking forward to wearing.

I went for black, I was tempted by purple but black is more versatile.
