When I'm usually more Mrs M&S ( nothing usually wrong with M&S) I just want a different look.

Happy with a Vinted bargain too.

Something here

Dresses with pockets. -POCKETS

I very much doubt it.

Nothing on that sight screams ‘admired, interesting, cool, well dressed, stylish aunty vibe'.

Edited

I haven't seen clothes that dated for decades.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 11/04/2025 10:35

@MissMoan I’m not sure if you were joking or … not?

Probably enjoying putting up the collective S&B blood pressure? 🤷‍♀️

Seasonofthesticks · 11/04/2025 11:39

Damson madder is cool :)

whatifshejust · 11/04/2025 15:59

I definitely wouldn't wear a dress if I wanted to be cool and interesting. I'd be in very wide leg trousers, pref with big pleats and a waistcoat with no top underneath. Chunky trainers in a contrasting/unexpected colour. If it was cold I'd add an oversized blazer.

M&S have got some great co-ordinates, or look at Sets and Suits at &Other Stories, or MeandEm

RampantIvy · 11/04/2025 16:36

Churches are quite chilly and off the shoulder dresses would be rather cold, and not really appropriate for church - unless you are a bride.

Divebar2021 · 11/04/2025 18:03

I think my idea of cool must be a long way off from some of these ideas… although to be fair a lot of edge can be added with shoe choice and hair cut / style

I also think trousers are cooler than dresses at the moment and I really liked the images at Massimo Dutti. They have nice dresses too but a lot of very subdued colours… ( and not many sleeves). I like the chocolate brown. There’s 2 here from MD and another from a brand called 90 Percent.

I suppose objectively Ganni is a cool brand although really fussy for my tastes. There’s striped halter neck would be good with a blazer for the church and is only £85 ( I mean it’s all relative). The tiger print is also reduced at the Outnet. Aligne have got quite edgy pieces and this green halter might be nice with your hair. I don’t think the blue dress is particularly edgy but I feel Jigsaw get a bit forgotten and you could clash a colour against that blue.

I haven’t checked the fabric but im guessing polyester reigns supreme sadly.

It's really lovely.

ConcreteBarriers · 11/04/2025 18:31

@BlossomBlossomBlossom@owlexpress
@whatifshejusttotally with you and that’s the vision I had with the gingham waistcoat/co-ord set but can understand it’s not to everyone’s taste just like the flowery MOB dresses aren’t mine or what I would classify as a cool aunty vibe!

it’s the silhouette and accessories/styling that will make it ‘cool’ and think a mid boxy culotte/boxy top in a mid weight fabric looks great (in pastel yellow or any other spring colours)

Or the new long slinky/strappy/backless dresses from Zara (similar to all saints silhouette) with a slouchy blazer/biker jacket + statement jewellery, hair slicked into a low pony/bun

@GarlicSmile thank you for introducing me to Sister Jane.
Does anyone know if they are stocked in any actual stores? I don't do well shopping online, I like to try on.

anon2022anon · 11/04/2025 19:32

So from your posts and likes, it looks like you might be looking for:
A minimal shape, okay with a bit of a frill or embellishment but nothing overly flouncy/ oversized/ cut out
A muted summer colour
Plain or a bold print, nothing too full on

GarlicSmile · 11/04/2025 19:36

@Love51: They have a shop at their studio. I'd so like to visit them!

Sister Jane Townhouse
36 Golborne Road
London, W10 5PR

They're stocked (selectively) by John Lewis, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Asos and various boutiques.

anon2022anon · 11/04/2025 19:39

I don't know how you feel about red, but I have similar shape tastes to what you seem to have, and I've just ordered this (in my size)

House of burbo?

anon2022anon · 11/04/2025 19:57

I've got no idea what the quality is like, but this seems to doing the rounds of instagrammers, and I've got to say it looks lovely on

monktasmic · 11/04/2025 19:59

I was in Oliver Bona today and thought it looked like a right old miss mash of over priced tat. There’s a pink sweat, and maybe 2 jump suits that don’t look cheap tat.
