When I'm usually more Mrs M&S ( nothing usually wrong with M&S) I just want a different look.

Happy with a Vinted bargain too.

Think people might be wandering a little from the brief here.

interesting, cool, well dressed, stylish

For a christening in June, amidst glam relatives. (I’m imagining the christening in Episode 1 of This City Is Ours!)

To my mind the OP needs something starkly simple and very, very now. All these ruffles and ruching and outdated prints are missing the mark.

(NB - hadn’t seen the post above mine so wasn’t referring to it.)

Birdsongsinging · 11/04/2025 07:17

The lilac one is lovely. I am similar size and would go for something like that. Lot of the others would drown me.

CountryQueen · 11/04/2025 01:38

And it’s got stains on it

I think the dress is ok but I wouldn’t want stains. I would also want something I could return if it didn’t fit me.

Gosh, @Goodfaith - that green dress on Vinted is vile! Neither cool nor glam. Awful sweaty material, will hang heavily limp on a hot day. Deeply depressing colour.

I can’t imagine anyone with £200 to spend wasting any of it on that.

(BTW, the links above were suggestions of sites to explore - not just the three items shown.)

Cos in particular meets all your criteria for - it’s almost impossible not to look well dressed in their clothes. Or a Me and Em frock from the current season - where the glamour comes from wearing something very new and up to date.

Edited

Loads to catch up on and I will today.

I was really taken with the green dress, but have ‘googled’ it and have realised it isn't the colour I thought.

I was thinking ‘olive’ with as PP upthread said, straw, gold, platform sandals, even nice sunglasses. I could see that.

Seems it is a much brighter green, more jade, not what I expected.

Thank you. I like the Casa Riki dress, but only for a very hot day, which I can't forecast.

I wouldn't wear the mini dresses, my knees are not up to it 😊 (and I know its not a thing on here but I'm too old for cut outs😆).

Gorgeous colour.

For me, sleeves and print feel like they would drown me.

I quite like this though …perhaps a little bit different…🤔https://roandzo.com/products/scarlett-lilac-twist-neck-maxi-dress

That is a beautifual dress but very OTT for a christening.

IME attire for a christening tends to be more office smart rather than wedding smart.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 11/04/2025 07:55

Even if I hadn’t read it on the site I would recognise Maria de la Orden as an ‘insta brand’. I’ve seen so many identical brands, with identical clothes run up as copies of whatever is fashionable.

Not a single original idea (and some rolling down the road to twee) but they do have some very nice things. The candy striped top and long skirt would be great fun to wear to a dressy outdoor party.

For the OP’s christening I think coordinating two of their simpler pieces might work.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 11/04/2025 08:03

I’d meant to mention it in the same breath as La Veste - but I’ve forgotten what I was going to say …

Without meaning to derail from OP's outfit dilemma, I'd argue that La Veste (which you posted earlier, and FYI I also love) is 100% an 'Insta brand' and their signature look is replicated by many other places.

thelondona2z · 11/04/2025 08:07

@Blossom993 - ha! I sort of read of your mind ;)

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 11/04/2025 08:21

Yeah … It’s true they seem similar! Possibly I think of La Veste in a different light because I stumbled on them through Gucci (and those things were ♥️).

As long as you are smart, respectable and clean does it matter what you wear?

It's a serious religious ceremony not a fashion show.

????

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 11/04/2025 08:39

And, given how few people actively follow the Christian faith in the UK, christenings are primarily an opportunity to welcome the child into their community and to make a statement about the society the family want the child to be part of. If the OP has lots of younger relatives she would like to influence for the good, it absolutely does matter that she presents her best self at the gathering.

People obviously don’t have to dress up for a christening - but it’s a significant family occasion and the photographs will last forever. I really cannot see any harm in wanting to look nice for it.

I no longer go to church, but when I did I witnessed a lot of christenings.

A christening is not a wedding, and people dress accordingly.

I was also going to suggest Sézane polka dots!

I think this skirt with a simple cream cardigan would be perfect for a christening

What’s with the affiliate links in the OP? Seems a bit desperate - do mumsnet add those automatically?

'What you wear' is important to many of us on this 'Style and Beauty' board. It might not matter to Jesus which outfit we've chosen but it matters to us.

owlexpress · 11/04/2025 09:48

Couldn't agree more, but tbf the OP isn't really helping because she does seem to be drawn to the suggestions that don't actually fit her brief.

My suggestions - Linen suit from Mango
Pink Mango dress
Linen blend waistcoat co-ord Ro&Zo
Waistcoat co-ord Nobody's Child
Also I saw this in M&S (actual link) this week and it's interesting.

You can't look interesting and unusual without getting out of your comfort zone.
