Marine Collagen - THANK YOU! ♥️

MNetters are amazing, thank you!

Since giving birth to my last child almost thirty years ago, my hair just got thinner and finer. Menopause was the killer - it just got worse and worse…I could clearly see my scalp, particularly around my hairline and parting. Over the years, I’ve spent £££ on shampoos, conditioners, pills, serums…you name it.
At the beginning of the year, I saw a thread on here & marine collagen was recommended. I decided to give it a go, and at just over 3 months in, my hair is definitely thicker and the density is very noticeable. Good condition too.
THIS STUFF WORKS!
This is the one I purchased- I didn’t like it stirred in drinks, so I take it in the morning in porridge.
Thanks lovely people of MN for a brilliant recommendation!

Ive just bought the powder that's a mix of bovine and marine collagen so will report back if there's any difference. I've now also fallen down a bovine colostrum rabbit hole 🙈

deeahgwitch · 05/05/2025 10:01

I’m on my third month of taking Collagen - I can’t see a difference ☹️ yet.
It’s Revive Active Beauty and contains Marine Collagen, Hyaluronic acid, Biotin and Phytoceramides.
My nails are still peeling.
I’ll give it another month and will switch brands if my nails are still so bad.
It is expensive.
The one you linked to @RosaMolineappears to be out of stock.

@XiCi which brand is yours?

MoistVonL · 05/05/2025 11:12

I’ve been following the thread and am finally jumping after a month of dithering.

Can I ask why stir it in coffee? Caffeine inhibits Vitamin C absorption, so it seems counterintuitive to me.

I wait an hour after having orange juice or a Vitamin C supplement before I have coffee usually.

namechangealerttt · 05/05/2025 11:54

It's not vitamin C, collagen a protein. People mix it in coffee because it's easy to consume that way, you could add it to anything really, a smoothie, yoghurt etc. Like people mix protein powder with many things.

Over time I have tried many different supplements for different ailments. It's trial and error, I think after 3 months if the collagen was working for you you should have noticed it. I wonder if you have some other deficiencies causing these problems?
I googled the product you have been using and it contains 7 grams of collagen protein, what I use has 10 grams per scoop. To be honest I don't know how much it has helped my hair and nails as that is not why I started taking it. I was taking it for pain in my knee joints which I suffered for a few years and the pain is eliminated.

The Revive Active Beauty Collagen is expensive for me and if I’m not seeing results I will try an other brand.

You need bovine collagen for hair and nails @deeahgwitch . It's a different type

HumptyNumptyDumpty · 05/05/2025 21:49

I’ve been taking the capsules for over a year now and the difference to my hair is amazing! I’ve got them on a monthly subscription from Amazon.

Can I ask what make @HumptyNumptyDumpty? Sorry if you’ve already said!

Collagen is a protein and does not contain any Vitamin C. Most people put it in their coffee because its tasteless and dissolvable so it's an easy way to get a couple of scoops. I also whizz up MCT and creatine into my morning coffee so it's a bit of a morning powerhouse 😊. I also only only drink decaff so have no absorption concerns

I think the pp might have been confused because some collagen powders contain vitamin C which is supposed to increase absorption.

Can I ask what creatine you use? I've been down a bit of a rabbit hole trying to choose one.

MoistVonL · 06/05/2025 08:51

@user499978802 yes, that’s what I meant. People taking vitamin C to aid absorption while drinking coffee with inhibits absorption.

But if it’s decaf or you aren’t having vitamin C with it, it’s moot, I guess.

namechangealerttt · 06/05/2025 10:42

I don't have vitamin C in the collagen I take because I also take ADHD medication and you can't take vitamin C with that or it doesn't work.

I started taking Vital Proteins but stopped because I found out it is owned by Nestle and for ethical reasons I try to boycott Nestle products.
I am in Australia so started ordering from a local company Vander Kraats, the marine collagen is good the bovine does not mix as well as the Vital Proteins did but it is still fine, and I prefer that to purchasing Nestle.
One scoop of each of these products is 10gm of collagen.
It is expensive and I noticed some of the products had other vitamins and only 4-7gm of Collagen. I take other supplements and wasn't looking for just a few grams.
The 'longevity bros' that take loads of supplements I have read take 20-30gms per day, too be honest with my other supplements I couldn't afford to take that amount!

I have been using the marine collagen ones (i’ve attached a pic) but having seen a PP say its the bovine ones we should be using I’ll give those a try (pic also attached). I’ve been happy with the marine ones but will see if the others are better!

I've been using this one. It's made a massive difference to my sleep quality and energy levels. I'm pissed off I didn't find out about it sooner tbh.

How do you take this? It says easily dissolvable and to take 1 spoon a day so I presume you just dissolve it in water?? Does it taste ok?

It's completely tasteless and dissolvable. I just throw it in tea or coffee

Clearinguptheclutter · 07/05/2025 07:43

I’m finding this all quite interesting. I’m 47 and been dealing with far too much hair shedding last 3 years.

Would people say it helps reduce shedding as much as it promotes new growth? I really need the former as a priority

i will say pumpkin seed oil has seemingly helped me quite a lot with the shedding. It’s pretty cheap too. So would recommend that people who like me are trying everything under the sun, give that a go. I’m not sure I believe in miracle cures though. Some things will work a bit.

none of fhe shampoos and serums work IMO. Minoxidil probably does (haven’t gone down that route yet)

I've had great results with this plus collagen @Clearinguptheclutter. I'm 60 and have loads of hair now with very little shedding. I use all the products consistently, except the supplement, which I haven't tried.
