Marine Collagen - THANK YOU! ♥️

MNetters are amazing, thank you!

Since giving birth to my last child almost thirty years ago, my hair just got thinner and finer. Menopause was the killer - it just got worse and worse…I could clearly see my scalp, particularly around my hairline and parting. Over the years, I’ve spent £££ on shampoos, conditioners, pills, serums…you name it.
At the beginning of the year, I saw a thread on here & marine collagen was recommended. I decided to give it a go, and at just over 3 months in, my hair is definitely thicker and the density is very noticeable. Good condition too.
THIS STUFF WORKS!
This is the one I purchased- I didn’t like it stirred in drinks, so I take it in the morning in porridge.
Thanks lovely people of MN for a brilliant recommendation!

Bovine collagen has types 1 and 3 which are for skin/nails and cardiovascular benefits. Marine collagen has type 2 which is best for joint pain. There is also a type 4 and 5 you get from things like egg shells but not sure of those benefits. You can get combined bovine/marine to cover all types.

thank you

Does anyone have any feedback on what it does for joints?

They roll themselves🤭

I’ve been reading along.

Clearly I’ve been inspired 😅

those who say they add it to coffee - can you explain please? do you literally just add a scoop of the powder in to your hot coffee? or are you making an iced coffee protein smoothie?

Pop it in before you add the hot water and stir well

I'm concerned about the deforestation aspect of bovine collagen, anyone know of a reputable source please?

Thank you to all the knowledgeable and helpful people!

I've ordered berry flavoured clear collagen to try first

Ok this is really helpful as for me it’s the joint pain. Skin and hair are ‘ok’ though I’ve def noticed an improvement in both but for me it’s joints. Am 52, ran for a few years so knees hate me and fingers similar after 30 years as a fast typist

They roll themselves🤭

And afterwards all pain disappears and you don’t even notice the state of your skin, hair or nails !

Yep 😁 and boy you could eat

I've just come on to say that I had an immediate response to marine collagen tablets. My knees were not pain free, but after a single day of tablets they were much improved. I'm so impressed.

I'm annoyed though. I wasn't aware of this thread when ordering. I just scrolled the H&B website for supplements for skin and didn't look into it enough. Having caught up with the thread I can see that marine may help my skin, but it's bovine that targets skin. I haven't eaten meat in nearly a decade, and the thought of these tablets makes me feel a bit queasy, but I've just bought some.

You do realise this isn't possible right? You've just had a placebo experience.

Agree, absolutely not possible

Ha ha, I'm a medical marvel! 🤣

TheBewleySisters · 22/04/2025 19:56

I've paused taking it as I was getting bowel problems. I was sprinkling it on my bran Flakes. The instructions said a scoop and a half, but just one scoop seemed A LOT.

henlake7 · 24/04/2025 17:24

Well, its been nearly a month and I think Ive noticed a difference!
No knee pain (but that comes and goes thanks to perimeno so doesnt count) but my hands look younger!😮
Normally I have very wrinkly, veiny 'old lady' hands but they are def looking smoother and plumper.....hopefully in another month the difference might get to my face!!😆

notafraidofthebigbadwolf · 03/05/2025 19:40

A friend of mine told me that at my age I should try collagen. I splashed out on some marine collagen powder from Sainsbury’s about three weeks ago purely on what she said. I hadn’t found this thread yet. OMG, what a difference! My hands and feet feel so incredibly soft. It’s bizarre. I generally have dry skin, and these are the most painfully dry bits, but it feels like I put a really decent hand or foot moisturiser on about an hour ago when I’ve done nothing of the sort! I bought a second tub to keep at work, same brand but from Holland and Barrett. That one is bovine though, so I’m getting a mix of both. I feel sort of ‘buttery’ inside, especially for the first 3-4 hours after taking it. Bizarre. I can’t wait to see what if any impact it has on my joints - and if any wrinkles subside, that will be a bonus. I’m feeling quite evangelical about it and am trying to get dh to take some for his joints too. I came on Mumsnet to see what people make of it - there are clearly detractors because of the science and those feeling a benefit despite all that. I’m enjoying it so much I’ve gone and deboned a fresh chicken this afternoon just to get at the bones to make broth!😊

INeedAnotherName · 03/05/2025 22:25

@notafraidofthebigbadwolf - I would be grateful if you could update later about the bovine collegen (and which particular one) as I'm looking for one that helps with painful joints.

dudsville · 03/05/2025 23:15

I am really amazed by it too @notafraidofthebigbadwolf . Like you I bit since and then find this thread. My face no longer needs layers and layers of moisturizer, though I haven't had the response you've achieved to the driest bits on my feet, my elbows have stopped being so itchy and dry.

@ineedanothername, my knees eased up immediately with marine collagen, but I wasn't taking it for that, I was taking it for my skin, so that was a surprising bonus. I now take 600mg marine and 600mgbovine nightly. Mine are tablets from H&B in their 241 sale.

Yes I will do.

Does anyone know if you can take collagen when you have gallstones?

Lagirl20 · 05/05/2025 02:53

EsmeSusanOgg · 12/04/2025 22:23

I started taking marine collagen gummies (useless with the powders) earlier this year. My skin and hair are so, so much better. Seriously doubted if it would work - been blown away by the results.

Do you mind sharing which ones?

Yes! I've been getting the Novomins Marine Collagen gummies from Superdrug (they often have a buy one get one 1/2 price deal).

I do, but my gallstone hasnt grumbled for years. I have been taking collagen for a good couple of years now with no issues.😊
