Marine Collagen - THANK YOU! ♥️

MNetters are amazing, thank you!

Since giving birth to my last child almost thirty years ago, my hair just got thinner and finer. Menopause was the killer - it just got worse and worse…I could clearly see my scalp, particularly around my hairline and parting. Over the years, I’ve spent £££ on shampoos, conditioners, pills, serums…you name it.
At the beginning of the year, I saw a thread on here & marine collagen was recommended. I decided to give it a go, and at just over 3 months in, my hair is definitely thicker and the density is very noticeable. Good condition too.
THIS STUFF WORKS!
This is the one I purchased- I didn’t like it stirred in drinks, so I take it in the morning in porridge.
Thanks lovely people of MN for a brilliant recommendation!

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of information on how many mg is recommended a day. The Zooki ones I have are 11000mg high strength ones but it seems quite hard to compare to others as it’s big even stated on a lot of them. The hot chocolate one in the article above sounds good but I bet the amount of collagen in it is actually quite low. Also don’t know if there’s a max amount the body will absorb? Anyone know?

deeahgwitch · 14/05/2025 14:33

I have just read an article in Healthline about Collagen both marine and bovine and it says that, re marine collagen “…….some studies suggest that it carries a lower risk of transmitting diseases…….”
😮😮😮
I hadn’t thought about diseases being transmitted.

OMG don't, I had already been thinking this week that prion diseases are one of the scariest things out there.

deeahgwitch · 03/06/2025 08:54

I have used Marine collagen for 3 months and have seen no improvement in my hair or skin.
My nails are awful - peeling - for the last year and I was really hoping for an improvement but no ☹️
I am disappointed as the marine collagen I used is not cheap.
I will give bovine collagen a go for 3 months and will report back.

MiniCoopers · 03/06/2025 10:53

I’m taking the True Collagen from Ancient & Brave, also the magnesium tablets. It’s been about 4 months now. Hair and nails are def improved, hoping to feel better joint wise soon.

I’m currently trying Nutrition Geeks bovine collagen and it came with a free 3 month supply of Biotin for nails. There is discount on your first order

I can’t actually give a personal recommendation yet as only been using for 2 weeks! What I can say is, it melts into coffee in the morning, is tasteless and I’ve had no side effects.

Hey..
I use revive active with collagen for skin, hair & nails, & it really is good .
It’s about 50 , 60 some places for the month , I live in Ireland though & I go to the health store & I am able to buy it weekly , 7 sachets for 14 euro each week which I find really handy ..
You should give it a go..
I notice a great difference.. 😊

deeahgwitch · 03/06/2025 14:03

Would you believe that’s the one I’m using @Missj25- Revive Active Beauty. It’s almost €60 for a month and after 3 months I can see no improvement in nails, skin or hair.
It was useless for me.
That’s why I will now give Bovine collagen a go.
I too live in Ireland.

Hey OP ..
Collagen complex by Theonia was voted number one out of 10 diff collagen products , I can’t remember where I saw it ( perimenopause head 🙈 ) ..
I read reviews on it then & I had been in 2 minds to switch up , but I def find a great difference in revive active , so I suppose no need to change it up then ..

Marine collagen is not the type of collagen that benefits hair skin and nails. You need bovine collagen

XiCi · 04/06/2025 15:38

Just the opinion of 1 plastic surgeon so a pretty useless article. And let's face it, plastic surgeons have a vested interest in persuading women that natural anti ageing methods won't work.

deeahgwitch · 07/06/2025 18:44

After 3 months on the Marine Collagen and being disappointed I have started on Bovine Collagen so it will be interesting to see how that goes .

Well that socks. Good luck with the bovine!

ffsfindmeausername · 08/06/2025 14:49

ive been taking bovine collagen for 1 year now. only H&B tablet version. I must say I have seen an improvement in my nails and I have noticed a huge reduction in hair loss. not sure if its improved my skin as im still looking like an old hag! but definitely an improvement in hair & nails. im late 40s

deeahgwitch · 08/06/2025 20:26

OMG
The bovine collagen tastes awful ☹️
The marine one I took was a lovely drink.
The bovine one is a powder I put into juice.
Still if it works it will be worth it.
Won’t it ?

An Irish journalist, Sophie White in her usual Sunday column in the Life section of the (Irish) Sunday Independent wrote about succumbing to the anti ageing advertising of Collagen, having read of its “miraculous benefits” and parting with €60.
She had buyer’s remorse.
She’s not alone 😀

I've taken bovine collagen for years, completely tasteless. There's so many out there so just research the reviews for a tasteless one. Definite improvement in skin, nails, hair. I'm 54 and my hair is thicker, longer and stronger than it was in my 20s. My hairdresser comments on it every time I go in and thinks it's some sort of miracle, so definitely no buyers remorse here.

ffsfindmeausername · 08/06/2025 23:32

@XiCi can I ask which bovine collagen are you taking?

PiggyPigalle · 09/06/2025 10:28

Home bargains are selling it in daily sachets x 2 week supply for £10. Sold out, but I'd grabbed a box and am too cowardly to take it. Berry flavoured fish.

I hadn’t thought about diseases being transmitted.

I remember in my youth when Gelatine was the Collagen of its day. Then came the expose of it coming from India and human bones being found in it.

That was a long time ago and India is a very successful manufacturer of food and medicine to us now.

Think I'll stick to cow by-products on my feet all the same.

deeahgwitch · 09/06/2025 13:39

OMG @PiggyPigalle 😮
I really dislike the smell and taste of the bovine collagen I have just started.

I take either Wellgard gold standard or Nutrition Geeks. Whichever is on offer at the time.

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 15/06/2025 08:03

@XiCi Thank you! And thank you OP for the thread.

I took marine collagen for a couple of years and saw an unexpected reduction in joint pain but none of the skin/hair results I was hoping for. Listened to a podcast that said the jury was out on whether it actually worked so I stopped, as it was also pretty expensive.

I started taking the recommended bovine collagen and the effects on my hair and nails are incredible. My nails are stronger and longer than they’ve ever been. My hair is thickening up and I have obvious tufts at the temples and all around my hair line. I’m late 40’s & peri BTW. Also shocked at how quickly it’s taken effect and I have been taking the lower end of the dosage - just coming to the end of my first tub in two months.

I asked my hairdresser about it last week, still thinking that perhaps it was a coincidence and she said that she sees it all the time and it’s usually people buying it hoping for an improvement on their skin and finding it does nothing for the skin but their hair grows like crazy.

Thanks again for my new hair! Off my to make my bovine coffee!

Yogachick · 15/06/2025 17:02

@Imabitbusyatthemoment which do you use please? I’m researching specifically to help my once glorious now thin and frizzy hair

EternalLodga · 14/07/2025 17:01

What makes the bovine so different from the marine? I also have a pack of Revive to work through!
