Marine Collagen - THANK YOU! ♥️

MNetters are amazing, thank you!

Since giving birth to my last child almost thirty years ago, my hair just got thinner and finer. Menopause was the killer - it just got worse and worse…I could clearly see my scalp, particularly around my hairline and parting. Over the years, I’ve spent £££ on shampoos, conditioners, pills, serums…you name it.
At the beginning of the year, I saw a thread on here & marine collagen was recommended. I decided to give it a go, and at just over 3 months in, my hair is definitely thicker and the density is very noticeable. Good condition too.
THIS STUFF WORKS!
This is the one I purchased- I didn’t like it stirred in drinks, so I take it in the morning in porridge.
Thanks lovely people of MN for a brilliant recommendation!

I’ve been using ancient and brave marine for the last few weeks. I’ve already noticed my skin looks much better and hair loss after a shower is so much reduced. Boots had them on offer half price but marine was sold out so I’m changing to bovine in a few days when my marine one runs out and then I’ll make my decision re preference. My joints are okay so it’s really hair and skin. I was considering Botox but now I genuinely think I don’t need to rush down that route any time soon.

I used Marine Collagen for 3 months and saw no effect. I’m now on Bovine Collagen for the past 2 months and again my nails are still sh*t. 🤷‍♀️

I have used Marine collagen for 3 months and have seen no improvement in my hair or skin.
My nails are awful - peeling - for the last year and I was really hoping for an improvement but no ☹️
I am disappointed as the marine collagen I used is not cheap.
I will give bovine collagen a go for 3 months and will report back.

This came up on my active and I was thinking 🤔 and scanning for a name I recognised and then I saw your post @deeahgwitch Grin

What are the side effects of using collagen?

i have persistent tendinitis in my Achilles. Would collagen help with that? Thanks :)

MrsK · 05/10/2025 18:00

@BellissimoGecko

no, I’ve been taking Ancient & Brave Bovine Collagen everyday for around 3 months. It’s hasn’t helped my Achilles tendinitis, it’s why I thought I’d give Collagen a try. I’m actually having PRP injections next week to see if that will help my Achilles

I have just started a six month supply of nutrition geeks. My nails are very thin and brittle and my hair is thinning too. Hopefully thats long enough to see if it makes a change.

Have you tried Biotin @deeahgwitch ? That's really helpful for many people with weak nails

deeahgwitch · 08/10/2025 13:35

I think I did use Biotin at one stage but will try it again, thank you @XiCi

ParsnipPuree · 08/10/2025 17:09

I’ve been taking the same as op and no improvement whatsoever. My skin however is looking ok…

Good luck with the injections. I hope they help.

Best one I've found by far is this collagen. It's not cheap bovine collagen it's marine, but more importantly it is well priced and it's third party tested, so you know there isn't any mould or heavy metals etc in it. I've been using it for months and even my hairdresser commented on how much of a better condition my hair was! So I'm a convert. 😊

Yep, I use this one too.

deeahgwitch · 24/03/2026 15:55

I tried the Bovine collagen and the Biotin.
My nails are beginning to get a little bit back on track.

@XiCi Thank you! And thank you OP for the thread.

I took marine collagen for a couple of years and saw an unexpected reduction in joint pain but none of the skin/hair results I was hoping for. Listened to a podcast that said the jury was out on whether it actually worked so I stopped, as it was also pretty expensive.

I started taking the recommended bovine collagen and the effects on my hair and nails are incredible. My nails are stronger and longer than they’ve ever been. My hair is thickening up and I have obvious tufts at the temples and all around my hair line. I’m late 40’s & peri BTW. Also shocked at how quickly it’s taken effect and I have been taking the lower end of the dosage - just coming to the end of my first tub in two months.

I asked my hairdresser about it last week, still thinking that perhaps it was a coincidence and she said that she sees it all the time and it’s usually people buying it hoping for an improvement on their skin and finding it does nothing for the skin but their hair grows like crazy.

Thanks again for my new hair! Off my to make my bovine coffee!

Which bovine collagen brand are you using please?

OhThePotential · 20/05/2026 15:04

I’m 55, just passed menopause and I don’t like supplements that come in powder form so I’ve been taking Healthspan Marine/Bovine collagen tablets for exactly the same reason - hair thinning and peeling nails. I’m also trying high strength glucosamine and chondroitin for joint pain. I’m not on HRT.

Six months in and I can now no longer see my scalp through my hair at the front of my head, my nails are still thin but don’t flake, and I’ve regrown some eyelashes having lost them all in my twenties due to a life threatening allergic reaction, after which they never grew back. I still have severe shoulder pain though 🫩

Before I started I was told by several people that collagen is a faddish waste of money as there is no clinical evidence that it does anything. I’m quite prepared to accept that but I’m happy with my choice and will continue to take it as long as I feel it is helping me to stay in one piece!
