Having facelift surgery in 10 days - support and advice needed

HI there,

I'm due to go for surgery on 15th March. Face and neck lift under local anaesthetic. I'm 53, medium weight, would like to be a bit lighter. I've had a horrendous few years personally and it's shown a lot on my face. I'm in a better place now and feel this will give me a boost to restart the 'new me.' I'd love to hear from anyone really as I haven't told many people I'm having it done as it seems so vain. My dd is very supportive though. I don't have a current partner.

Any tips from those who have had similar procedures? Or chats with anyone thinking of getting some work done. Or even haters who will tell me that looks don't matter and I should bin it off.

Oh fuck ageing gracefully!!!!!

If you're in the uk and have researched your surgeon carefully then bloody go for it.

I want my breasts lifted next but I will 100% consider a face lift in a few years time.

Good luck 🤗

I’m happy with my surgeon - he has really good reviews and the clinic is a long-standing one in SE UK. But you always worry about things going wrong, infection etc.?

I’m excited too. Scared as well. My dd is amazingly supportive though and will look after me afterwards. She’s 22.

Have you thought about the message you're sending your daughter?

It's your life, your face, your money but the consequences don't exist in a vacuum.

She's sending her adult daughter the message that she doesn't much care for her own jowls and neck and that she's going to change them. I'm sure at the age of 22 her DD is fully aware that face lifts exist and that some women have them, the only news here is that her mum is one of them. I'm sure she is not so suggestible that she will feel compelled to follow suit against her better judgement.

Good luck! I'm guessing lots of straws and bottles of water for afters. And some ice packs with plenty of fabric around them (ask your surgeon), and plenty of ibuprofen to take as usually the painkillers they give you after surgery are really constipating. Lots of pillows and support for elevated sleeping so you don't slip. Lots of comfy pjs as you're going to be in bed a lot. And sloppy food that doesn't need chewing. Soup, protein shakes etc. It's worth knowing that after the initial recovery, bizarrely week four after an op is often a bit of set back, something to do with how your tissues mend and the inflammatory response. I think it's fab you're doing it.

doopdoopdidoop · 06/03/2025 19:27

Good luck OP- bravo to you x

stanleypops66 · 06/03/2025 19:35

Good luck!

Where are you going and what surgeon OP? Im in the SE, same age as you, saving as hjard as I can, I desparately want a face and neck lift

Sassysoonwins · 06/03/2025 20:15

Wishing you all the best OP! I do admire people who can just get on with the face they have and not care. But I am not one of them! I had lower bleph at 32 and never regretted it for a second. The bags are only just starting to come back in my mid 50s now. I have botox regularly to stop my mouth turning down and my bathroom is awash with retinoids and acids. I feel so much better when I feel my face is at its best. Hope the pain subsides quickly and you enjoy the results.

SevernWonders · 06/03/2025 20:42

How exciting OP I am similar age and would love to have it done if I had the money.

honeylulu · 06/03/2025 20:43

Good luck OP, I'm excited for you and will follow your progress. I'm 50 and thinking I will probably go for it in the next few years, need to start researching properly!

She's sending the message that she's prepared to go to dangerous lengths to conform to impossible 'beauty' standards.

That women are not good enough as they are.

That their worth is so tied to grasping at youth that they will go to huge expense and butcher their faces.

What if her daughter looks like her? She's telling her daughter that she has an expiry date.

It's not a neutral act.

MeganM3 · 06/03/2025 22:55

I had cosmetic surgery a few years ago, not a facelift. It was one of the best things I've ever done and gave me lots of confidence and I think I look better for it.

General anaesthetic, I stayed the night in hospital (paid extra for this and was glad I did). Recovery was harder than expected, 1-2 months to really feel well and comfortable again.

Nice that your DD is going to be there for you. Good luck.

FoxtrotOrange · 06/03/2025 23:00

I think it's great that you're going for it. Would you mind DMing me the name of your surgeon because I'm researching as well and it's always reassuring to know of other people's choices too. 😊

Thepurpleheather · 06/03/2025 23:01

So how long does the effects a face lift last?
Surely you are just starting down the route of having to have procedure after procedure? Before accepting the inevitable.
We all age . It's a fact of life.
It's just so sad that women have been brainwashed into thinking getting older is a crime.

Ooh can I ask about Botox around the mouth? I’m due to have it in a months time but I’m a bit worried I will end up look like I’ve had a stroke, are the results good?

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 06/03/2025 23:09

I’m seriously considering a face and neck lift I cat bear the sagging of my jowls and neck, it really upsets me so good on you OP I hope you keep this thread going it would be really interesting to see how it all goes for you, best of luck.

joanofaardvark · 06/03/2025 23:12

@Choccobanana

She's making an autonomous personal decision (and having given her reasons for doing so.)

She is under no obligation to 'send messages' 'set examples' or only commit 'neutral acts'. As a mother of daughters I'd be more alarmed by my daughters being expected to live by your assertions than making decisions of their own free will, free of the burden of expectation that you are imposing. Women can choose to look however they want. Your judgment is no more morally worthy than that of the patriarchy.

Alisonjayne8 · 06/03/2025 23:14

I applaud you op. I can afford it but have no clue where to start or how to look for a good surgeon/clinic. How do you trust the reviews as I believe a lot are paid for.

Touty · 06/03/2025 23:41

Can I ask how much?

OneFineDay13 · 07/03/2025 00:20

Hi OP am having one also in July and can't wait am 45 and grief and other things have taken a bit of toll on my features
