Having facelift surgery in 10 days - support and advice needed

HI there,

I'm due to go for surgery on 15th March. Face and neck lift under local anaesthetic. I'm 53, medium weight, would like to be a bit lighter. I've had a horrendous few years personally and it's shown a lot on my face. I'm in a better place now and feel this will give me a boost to restart the 'new me.' I'd love to hear from anyone really as I haven't told many people I'm having it done as it seems so vain. My dd is very supportive though. I don't have a current partner.

Any tips from those who have had similar procedures? Or chats with anyone thinking of getting some work done. Or even haters who will tell me that looks don't matter and I should bin it off.

Hope it's not a Turkey "cut n shut".

angelinawasrobbed · 05/03/2025 10:08

I’m awash with admiration and envy. Hope it goes well!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 05/03/2025 10:15

I'm in the same age bracket OP and although I've never had botox or fillers I absolutely would have a facelift! Only this morning I was bemoaning the jowls and turkey neck that have appeared in the last year. If and when I have the money, I will absolutely be going for a facelift. I hope it all goes to plan and please come back with an update when you feel able. Good luck!

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/03/2025 10:19

Ooh, good luck op, please keep us posted. I hope you get a great result. I’m considering blepharoplasty rather than face lift but haven’t been brave enough to book yet.

tipsandtoes · 05/03/2025 10:30

Local anaesthetic? What kind of face lift is it OP?
The only one I've known much about is deep plane and you are under a general.

Lentilweaver · 05/03/2025 10:33

I have never had anything done but an acquaintance had a facelift done and told everybody on social media in advance.

I appreciated the warning, tbh.

Summerhillsquare · 05/03/2025 10:34

Sending good wishes. Relax, deep breaths and think happy thoughts, and how you're doing something you really wanted. A bit of last minute learning of mindfulness maybe?

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 05/03/2025 10:35

There was a poster on here a couple of years ago who had a face and neck lift under local. I'll see if I can find it.

SpiralSister · 05/03/2025 13:54

Good luck. I hope it brings you what you want.

Like a pp, I’ve never had Botox or fillers and I won’t. I will consider surgery for a turkey neck if that develops though (56 now) because I wouldn’t be able to bear myself. I had upper bleph last year and it’s brilliant. Recovery was a bit brutal for me, but that’s unusual, and it passed.

Be glad that you can do this for yourself, I hope it all goes really well.

OrchidOrchard · 05/03/2025 14:00

I’m interested to see your progress, I can see the start of loose skin and am about to embark on a weight loss plan. I’m hoping if I go really really slowly it won’t be as bad but definitely considering a face lift down the line. A stressful couple of years have really altered my appearance so I get it

I’ve never had Botox or fillers either. I’ve heard that it’s better for a facelift if you haven’t?

Because they looked so different you mean?

Yes I've heard the same, better for a face lift if you've not had extensive botox. The surgeon i saw talking about it said a lot of botox can stop the muscles from working and they de-condition, making the face lift more difficult.

Good luck with your procedure, have you got someone to drive you home after?

It’s lower face and neck. My surgeon doesn’t use the term ‘deep plane’ but he gave offers of buccal fat removal and fat repositioning. He didn’t feel I needed that though. He’d prefer to do it with a general but GAs affect me really badly so I requested local. I’ll be v sedated though.

Yes, I have a lift home. I stay overnight immediately after which I think is a good thing

Thank you! My marriage ended 18 months ago and we sold the house we joint owned leaving me with some cash to spare. I thought it’s now or never.

I’ve been feeling really deeply unhappy with how I look. It’s like everything suddenly ‘fell.’ Looking in the mirror now makes me sad. I’m not hugely vain, never bothered with any other treatments but my confidence is low and I hope feeling better about how I look might help.

Lentilweaver · 06/03/2025 12:47

Yes!

I’m hoping this will be light touch and natural and people just think I look well rather than dramatically different.

okydokethen · 06/03/2025 12:59

Exciting I always thought it was something I would never do - until I got older and get it now. I'll stick to Botox though as I'm squeamish... saying that my dream procedure would be getting rid of hooded eyelids. Good luck!

MerryForever · 06/03/2025 13:19

Me too. I was all about ‘ageing gracefully’ but then found myself single, ‘50s and wondering when I ended up looking so washed out and ancient.

I’m not a fan of the look of Botox and fillers, it’s not really me but I know it works for lots of people. I’m hoping I’ll still be me but with a bit of world weariness not so evident.

OP posts:
princesspadam · 06/03/2025 13:24

Oh fuck ageing gracefully!!!!!

If you're in the uk and have researched your surgeon carefully then bloody go for it.

I want my breasts lifted next but I will 100% consider a face lift in a few years time.

Good luck 🤗

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 06/03/2025 14:44

Sounds like your surgeon knows his stuff @MerryForever I'm excited for you!

MerryForever · 06/03/2025 15:44

I’m excited too. Scared as well. My dd is amazingly supportive though and will look after me afterwards. She’s 22.
