Having facelift surgery in 10 days - support and advice needed

HI there,

I'm due to go for surgery on 15th March. Face and neck lift under local anaesthetic. I'm 53, medium weight, would like to be a bit lighter. I've had a horrendous few years personally and it's shown a lot on my face. I'm in a better place now and feel this will give me a boost to restart the 'new me.' I'd love to hear from anyone really as I haven't told many people I'm having it done as it seems so vain. My dd is very supportive though. I don't have a current partner.

Any tips from those who have had similar procedures? Or chats with anyone thinking of getting some work done. Or even haters who will tell me that looks don't matter and I should bin it off.

You can get your hands done too! A peel for texture and some fillers to replace fat loss and it looks great. I think people don't bother as much about their hands than their face perhaps. Also, not everyone wants to look younger. I have botox in my 11s because I don't want to look 55 and like I'm permanently scowling, not because I don't want to look 55. I'd like a face lift because I don't think my jowls look good and think I'd look nicer without them. I'm not sure when wanting to look nice became such a faux pas. Most human beings like things that are aesthetically pleasing to them, so why you have to make an exception for your own face I don't know.

I agree. Defying age isn’t my main goal. It’s just not looking sad, tired and drained.

Charles Nduka is an excellent surgeon and such a nice man, you are in very safe hands. I had a different op last year at the Nuffield and was talking to the nurses about facelifts. They all unanimously said they would go to Charles if they were ever to have one

Thank you so much! He does seem lovely. And when I went to my pre-op last week, the nurses said the same about him. I wasn’t sure if they were just being reassuring so it’s good to hear you say that. Xxx

Hope it goes well, OP. The fact that you feel sad about your face/neck is enough - you have the money to do it, your surgeon is well-respected and in the UK and you have support for your aftercare.

Best wishes to you.

You do you. Perhaps OP has a fantastic figure or perhaps she doesn't care about her figure. You sound jealous that she can afford it. Don't be bitter.

I’m a totally average, slightly thick around the middle 50-something-year old. I could use a stone off but I never worry about it. My face gets me down because I see weariness in it. My belly is quite happy :) I know loads of people who’ve used the weight loss jabs and I feel more worried about the long term effects of those plus the misery of not enjoying food any more. We’re all different!

Watching with interest… I’ve booked a consult for later this month but fear I am too chicken, too wary of my DH and DCs censure to go ahead. Like you, have had 5 years of hell and feel it shows on my face. It’s not about wanting to look younger. It’s about not wanting my ‘resting bitch face’ to define who I am.

MerryForever · 06/03/2025 12:45

It’s lower face and neck. My surgeon doesn’t use the term ‘deep plane’ but he gave offers of buccal fat removal and fat repositioning. He didn’t feel I needed that though. He’d prefer to do it with a general but GAs affect me really badly so I requested local. I’ll be v sedated though.

What is the timeline for recovery? This is exactly what I am considering, as the incisions are in the hair line/behind the ears - was hoping that I could dress up my absence as a week away at a spa (no idea where I’d go and stay for a week) and then go home looking moderately normal so my teens barely notice (ASD/ADHD, bit might be alarmed by a head bandage…)

PruthePrune · 07/03/2025 17:37

@MerryForever
keep us updated when you have the procedure.

I’m not totally sure of recovery time - I think it varies but I’m hoping for minimal obvious changes too. I’ll keep you posted!

She's sending the message that she's prepared to go to dangerous lengths to conform to impossible 'beauty' standards.

That women are not good enough as they are.

That their worth is so tied to grasping at youth that they will go to huge expense and butcher their faces.

What if her daughter looks like her? She's telling her daughter that she has an expiry date.

It's not a neutral act.

Bullshit. Stop dictating to women how they must feel.

For me I wont be doing to to confirm to any 'standards', I'll be doing it to get the face back that actually looks like me before peri hit and my face fell off itself. That isnt me.

I wont look like a magazine model or celeb, or anything that might be considered a model standard, I will simply look like the old me, that I liked very much thank you.

Can I ask who you are using? I am in the north and considering this.

Id like to know as well if you dont mind because I want to get to know what sort of people are being talked about

Thanks to the OP Ive been looking up the Nuffield and that would be workable for me (about 3 hours away due to the M25)

glitterturd · 07/03/2025 19:27

You're very brave! I have had small amounts of Botox and fillers but would be terrified to do this!

I want a face and neck lift and maybe one day a body lift (having lost lots of weight) and I feel less scared of having a face lift than of botox or fillers. Ive also read that surgeons prefer doing a face lift on people who've never had botox or fillers (thankfully I havent had either).

I literally just need my face lifted up and the turkey neck removed.

BlackSwan · 07/03/2025 19:40

Good luck! Your surgeon seems to have great reviews (just looked at RealSelf).
I'm all for a facelift when the time is right.
Hope you have a great result.

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 07/03/2025 14:55

To be honest, most of us aren't expecting to look 20 years younger or whatever, we are looking to correct something specific (like heavy jowls) to give our face back a bit of structure.

I have done research into it, as I will be getting one in the next few years, and from the before and after photos on many of the surgeon's website, the people don't necessarily look younger, but they do look fresher and more rested, which is what many of us are aiming for.

This a million times over, It’s not about making me look younger I just don’t want a turkey neck and sagging jowls.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 07/03/2025 20:04

I've been wanting one for a while but don't have the money.

Good luck and please keep us informed and post any before and after pics you are comfortable sharing!

KarmenPQZ · 07/03/2025 22:10

Good luck! Can you give a ball park (or exact!) cost?

soupyspoon · 07/03/2025 22:13

I was trying to DM the OP but the system is suspended at the moment, to ask about price.

I know I had been looking at the BellaVue or something its called in Tunbridge Wells, the facelift there is about 35k.

CautiousLurker01 · 07/03/2025 22:22

Cadogan charge 8k ish for mini face lift (lower face) and 12k ish for deep plane? Another london place I looked at charged £12k for a S-pony tail lift (which I think is another name for a mini). Didn’t ask about the deep plane as I guessed that would be approaching £20k - and I was picking myself up off the floor after swooning with shock LOL. A, currently starting a course of CACI and microneedling to see if it helps but am doubtful!

A lot of the clinics have payment plans.

Aww op I'm sure you will be delighted!

the woman who had it done a few yeasts ago was well pleased it was all she'd hoped for. Most if not all posters were supportive and I don't remember vitriol of the sort this thread seems to have attracted. What's happened in the last few years?

Covid?

Approx £14,000. That includes the overnight stay in hospital plus an extra night if needed.

The PMs are apparently opening next week, can I PM you then? I have my initial consult on 17th, unless I move it a few weeks to fit better with my kids’ (teens!) Easter holiday. Am interested to know how you chose your surgeon and whether she was recommended? Am wary of trusting a Harley Street clinic address and I don’t know anyone who’s had this done (yet!)

Yes - happy to PM.

I just looked at Spire Healthcare and they recommended my surgeon. I then Googled him lots, had the initial consultation and felt he was a good choice. I didn’t shop around though so there may be better options.
