Having facelift surgery in 10 days - support and advice needed

HI there,

I'm due to go for surgery on 15th March. Face and neck lift under local anaesthetic. I'm 53, medium weight, would like to be a bit lighter. I've had a horrendous few years personally and it's shown a lot on my face. I'm in a better place now and feel this will give me a boost to restart the 'new me.' I'd love to hear from anyone really as I haven't told many people I'm having it done as it seems so vain. My dd is very supportive though. I don't have a current partner.

Any tips from those who have had similar procedures? Or chats with anyone thinking of getting some work done. Or even haters who will tell me that looks don't matter and I should bin it off.

Hmmm. I just don't think it is the answer personally.

If it were me I'd spend the money on amazing holidays and experiences for me and daughter instead: great food, wonderful entertainment, lots of fun and laughter.

All the happiness and sunshine would (I truly believe) show on the face and blow the cobwebs of your rough few years away.

I do all this and it makes no difference! 😂

But at least you're enjoying yourself!

Yes, it is informative. Convinced me to never have one. I prefer her before look. No one believes me, but I don't like the excessively smooth faced doll look.
Not sure if her Tiktok video will work that way for other people though!

She’s still recovering and she hasn’t got the final result. I think she looks good, but I’m glad it helped you 👍

PruthePrune · 07/03/2025 12:28

Good for you OP. I hate my jowls and turkey neck and would get them done in a flash if I could afford it. Hope it goes well x

If you're on Mumsnet for support. Why?

What support do you want?

If you have this operation now and lose the weight you mention will it need doing again?

I’ve already had some of the support I hoped for! Posters being kind, open and understanding as well as useful practical advice.

As for the more negative responses, I haven’t read anything yet that’s really made me question my decision to go ahead with it. I’ve heard lots of those views before in relation to other people and always had faith in the fact that most women know what they need and can make their own decisions without being judged.

Give what away?

I am likely a 'hater' but this doesnt seem the thread for it so will refrain! Probably a subject for a general thread. I hate the game, not the player.

I’m happy to hear your views.

Age.
Look at Madge and any other person who've had work done. Their faces may look dewy and jowl-less, the turkey neck lessened, but hands...

AprilF00L · 07/03/2025 13:27

Good luck OP. How nice to be able to do something just for yourself. Sounds just what you need. I'm sure it will work wonders for your self esteem.

I’m happy to hear your views.

Honestly it's a very personal decision. And we appear to be in different circumstances. And as you said, most women can make up their own minds.

MsPug · 07/03/2025 13:37

Aww op I'm sure you will be delighted!

the woman who had it done a few yeasts ago was well pleased it was all she'd hoped for. Most if not all posters were supportive and I don't remember vitriol of the sort this thread seems to have attracted. What's happened in the last few years?

I’ve been seeing Charles Nduka at Montefiore Hospital but the actual op is with him at the Nuffield. I think it’s okay to share that on here?

Charles Nduka is an excellent surgeon and such a nice man, you are in very safe hands. I had a different op last year at the Nuffield and was talking to the nurses about facelifts. They all unanimously said they would go to Charles if they were ever to have one

Gettingbysomehow · 07/03/2025 13:44

Ageing gracefully pish. I'm having a facelift as soon as I can afford one. I look great after my big weight loss, but my lower face and neck has drooped and i look miserable even when I'm happy.

Tbf she doesn’t need it. If I had the spare cash I’d treat myself to mounjaro. Knocking 5-10 years off your appearance, meh, still got the body of a 50 odd year old.

You do you. Perhaps OP has a fantastic figure or perhaps she doesn't care about her figure. You sound jealous that she can afford it. Don't be bitter.

Lolopolo · 07/03/2025 14:42

All the posters giving negativity - OP had not asked for your opinion, but support and advice for her upcoming surgery. Can’t any of you read? Do you just like to jump on posts to unnecessarily comment because it makes you feel superior?

To be honest, most of us aren't expecting to look 20 years younger or whatever, we are looking to correct something specific (like heavy jowls) to give our face back a bit of structure.

I have done research into it, as I will be getting one in the next few years, and from the before and after photos on many of the surgeon's website, the people don't necessarily look younger, but they do look fresher and more rested, which is what many of us are aiming for.

But you don't need mounjaro either - none of us need any of this.

If we were going off need alone, the Style and Beauty board would be defunct.

I haven't had a face or neck lift, although will consider one in the future, so would be interested in hearing about your experience.

My one tip is that if you're not a back sleeper, try out the pillows and positioning for a few nights before the surgery. I like to sleep on my side and stomach and had something a few years ago where I had to sleep on my back for a few weeks and really struggled to get a good night.

@ItShouldntHappenToMeYet I don't think obvious hand ageing is always a given.

I’m due to go in on the 17th March, face and neck lift under general. I live in the se too. I actually considered going to Charles Nduka as well he was reccomended to me by my doctor who has seen the work he does as she works in the same hospital so hope that gives you a bit of extra assurance. In the end I decided to go up north for mine so I’ve booked an airb&b for a couple of weeks.
Things I bought include face ice mask, wedge pillow, puzzle books, extra long charger cable, soft hair Alice bands, drinking straws I also bought some arnica and bromelain to help with the swelling and bruising. Please feel free to message me and good luck.

Can I ask who you are using? I am in the north and considering this.

You can get your hands done too! A peel for texture and some fillers to replace fat loss and it looks great. I think people don't bother as much about their hands than their face perhaps. Also, not everyone wants to look younger. I have botox in my 11s because I don't want to look 55 and like I'm permanently scowling, not because I don't want to look 55. I'd like a face lift because I don't think my jowls look good and think I'd look nicer without them. I'm not sure when wanting to look nice became such a faux pas. Most human beings like things that are aesthetically pleasing to them, so why you have to make an exception for your own face I don't know.

fiorentina · 07/03/2025 15:20

I hope it goes well and that you look and feel rejuvenated and energised to take on life. Good for you!

Actually she asked for haters.

BuntyBeaufort · 07/03/2025 16:21

I had a thread lift several years ago, and was quite pleased with the results - a firmer jawline, which was the plan.
However, just a year later I had to have dental treatment requiring having my mouth forced open on 3 occasions, and afterwards all the effects of the lift had gone.
I don't know whether this is a common occurrence or if I was just unlucky, but if anyone is considering a thread lift it's worth asking the question.

God, I’d be astonished if I look dewy and decades younger thank my hands. I’m hoping for a subtle uplift and that’s what I’ve asked for.
