I am in such a terrible state, I've nothing nice t wear, I've been buying fast fashion in horrible material and nothing goes together 😔.
Looking to you gorgeous lot for inspiration for Spring. I'm thinking of buying a camel wool coat in the sales, and really having a glow up....but where to start?!

@UpMyself I saw the shirts worn on an Instagram account I follow - Invest in Style. Before that I had no intention of buying them, as i don't find the Uniqlo website inspiring at all. But there are some real gems there that she often features. I also follow Melissa Murrell as she often posts realistic day to day inspiration & sprung fashion coming in & her You Tube guidance videos are great.

UpMyself · 13/02/2025 18:55

I'm not on iG but I 'll look up MM. I don't like the Uniqlo site either. I used to love Uniqlon but the last 2 times I've been in the store I didn't see anything I liked.

I went in Mint velvet last year for the first time. Its a bit flouncy for me in some items but they have tons of stock and great staff. Basically had a personal shopper. Even if you don't end up buying from there i found it very helpful to try a load of stuff on together as i'm in Cornwall and we are low on shops to go into. So it gave me a load of ideas.
The coat and jeans i bought in Autumn have been commented on almost every time ive worn them. Like strangers in the street comments !! so it must look OK and the quality is fantastic.
I like similar to you, beige black white denim and red in the main.

I've recently lost a fair bit of weight and am currently in the smallest size clothes in my wardrobe, so in the next month I will need to buy new almost everything, however I've got more weight to go so I'm plannng a small shop including:
Jeans (barrel shape), t-shirts, 2x work trousers (any ideas for these gratefully received, I like wide leg or cigarette pants), trainers (Adidas gazelle).

My most-worn work trousers are wide-legs - I have a really nice pair in black ponte from M&S that I wear with a plaited black leather belt. They've washed well and look good with pretty much everything.

I also like a cigarette-pant style pair (the Next slim tailored are easy to wear).

Having said that, I'm in a very casual office now so I just wear Lucy & Yak elasticated waist corduroys 😁

lentilbake16 · 14/02/2025 16:18

a pack of knickers from Next.

HardenYourHeart · 14/02/2025 18:02

Absolutely nothing!

I only buy something when I need it. I still have enough clothes, so until something wears out, I'll be saving my money for a rainy day.

redstripestar · 14/02/2025 21:51

What season are you @Puddleclucks ?
I feel like this year is the one where I've figured out my style - sort of classic with a little bit of free flow and femininity. I decided on focusing on buying the range of neutrals in the best cuts and fabrics I can afford.

I'm so tired of jumpers that look rubbish after two years.

12345mummy · 15/02/2025 08:20

I’m trying to spend more on good quality classic items rather than fast fashion but I have a huge gap in my wardrobe now when it comes to Spring.
So I’m considering a short quilted jacket to wear with some wide leg jeans/trousers etc. I’m hoping it might pull what I have together!

Theresacatinmykitchenwhatamigonnado · 15/02/2025 09:13

I'm on a buying ban, I've got so many clothes I haven't worn for ages, so have been making an effort to wear or charity shop them. Having said that, I do need a jacket for Spring - I don't like blazers or trench coats and want something slimmish to balance out the Big Jeans. I'll know it when I see it. I also need a new swimming costume. I would like a new pair of jeans but barrel leg are not nice and all the wide ones I like are essentially replicas of the ones I currently have, so I shan't bother.
Remus you've been on the look out for the perfect holiday outfits for what feels like years, they clearly do not exist! Given your newly honed sewing skills, could you not make some?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/02/2025 09:20

I’ve got my day wardrobe sorted for holiday clothes tbf - Arket shorts and vests, with Marks thin cotton beach shirts that I’ve chopped and hemmed the sleeves on.

I can’t find any lovely thin cotton or I’d certainly be making a couple of dresses. The kind that Indian hippy dresses used to be made of is what I want, if that makes sense to anyone!

Lentilweaver · 15/02/2025 09:43

A suede jacket is on my wishlist but all the nice ones are £££.

Horses7 · 16/02/2025 18:22

I’ve bought a pale blue wool coat for Spring - not at all sensible as it’s dry clean only …. but I love it already.

Buy good quality clothes that will last . . . better to the planet and better for your wallet in the long run. Also - consumes far less time looking over and over because you have pieces you love that transcend seasons and years.
justinetabak.co.uk hasn't brough out Spring collection yet, but has some great peices in the sale.

wooliegloves · 17/02/2025 08:36

I really want a nice waterproof/anorak but yet to see bright ones like on the catwalk.

I'm into socks as well.

Lentilweaver · 12/02/2025 12:29

I am trying to buy way less and use what I already have in my wardrobe.
I already have a trench coat, wide leg jeans, and some bright jumpers in green and pink. I can't wear camel or beige; can do brights.

I did buy these silver New Balances. I don't usually like metallics but these aren't shiny and very comfortable. New Balance RC42 Trainers Silver Metallic - Women's Trainers

I really like these.

stringbean · 17/02/2025 08:47

OP, have a look at Claire Lopez on Instagram. She's a stylist and has some great tips on putting together outfits. She is very slim and petite but does advise what works on different shapes, what proportions work, as well as eg. what footwear/tops works with different styles of jeans, or how to create workwear outfits. She wears a lot of high street clothes and isn't all about the new stuff she's bought; much more how to put outfits together from what you have, or identifying gaps in your wardrobe.

KristieLambert · 17/02/2025 09:29

I want to buy a suitable pair of sneakers

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/02/2025 07:09

Re hot holiday - I want to try to get a couple of very thin cotton dresses, ideally with short sleeves rather than sleeveless. Ridiculously hard to find!

If you're sewing, have you looked at Merchant and Mills patterns? The Factory one (I've not made yet) is my sort of thing and I have a very similar version I bought in Spain last year in a rust coloured linen. Would also work in a gauzy cotton. I plan to make some Ikat patterned tops and culottes for the summer, knowing it will be stupidly hot on holiday.

D20 · 17/02/2025 12:55

I bloody adore Merchant & Mills fabrics.

Me too! Wish they were a bit cheaper though😆

I'll be getting some Birkenstock Bostons after many years of coveting a pair I'm just going to bite the bullet and get some.

YetAgainAgain · 17/02/2025 16:10

@EllaPaella @MissyB1 I don’t know how to style them! Any tips??

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/02/2025 16:53

Thanks Mewkins. It’s the fabric I’m struggling with. Linen is too thick, as is double gauze. Imagine the thinnest cotton, that’s been washed for years until it’s as soft as spiderwebs. It’s not something I’d want to risk buying online, but am keeping my eyes open.
