I am in such a terrible state, I've nothing nice t wear, I've been buying fast fashion in horrible material and nothing goes together 😔.
Looking to you gorgeous lot for inspiration for Spring. I'm thinking of buying a camel wool coat in the sales, and really having a glow up....but where to start?!

It helped me think of which colours suit me and which cuts and styles flatter me. I am not cut out to wear whatever I want because Im not that kind of free spirited confident person and i make peace with this. Then my budget narrowed the choice of shops. I decided on 4 colours that mix and match well and I made full outfits like a capsule wardrobe for the next 3 months. Pinterest is great for this. Everything had to be worn in different outfits, all comfortable and suit my daily life. I thought of what i already had and then made a shopping list to fill any gaps. I shopped online and filtered results to save time. Having a daily skib routine then weekly pamper helps look groomed all the time. I like a Sunday afternoon with a movie or YouTube on and do a home spa session, get into my freshly laundered bed and it feels a lovely end of the week.

PheasantPluckers · 11/02/2025 17:16

About half of Zara 😂

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/02/2025 17:26

I’m not buying much at all, as I have lots of stuff. Having said that, I want a new pair of Marks Harper jeans and possibly some colourful trainers, or Hoff Berlin if I can find them on offer.

Pickandmixusername · 11/02/2025 17:30

I have a camel wool coat and also a beige/camel trench coat. I do wear both in spring, but the wool coat gets a lot less wear in general as I'm scared of ruining it. It's quite a light colour and I work in a school..

All I've bought so far is a waterproof for running. I did buy a maxi dress from Next as well, but I think I'm going to send it back as I'm not in love with it.

I'm really looking forward to getting my shoes out again. I live in boots atm as I walk to work and on school run.

MissyB1 · 11/02/2025 17:36

I'm after some girlfriend jeans from fatface, and a pair of Birkenstocks.

quirkychick · 11/02/2025 17:39

I'm also trying not to buy too much, I usually buy to replace or for gaps. Colourful trainers for me too, as my Adidas speciale need replacing and probably some more long-sleeved t-shirts.

If you're thinking of a camel coat or trench - does that colour suit you? I say that because I look terrible in camel and beige. Also, are classic pieces "you" or do you just think you should buy them?

ServantsGonnaServe · 11/02/2025 17:41

I'd start by picking a style.

Are you a Lucy & Yaks trousers with converse and a slim or crop top person? (Prob not from OP) or a tasteful dress and matching shoes person?

Do a Pinterest board and try to see the overlaps and then pick one outfit to recreate (or you'll end up with odd items that don't go together).

A dress is usually a good start. Try on in shops and don't rule out vinted, it's a treasure trove, even if you pick a specific item brand new with tags. Loads being flogged that noone has ever worn.

Trounlet · 11/02/2025 17:41

I've recently lost a fair bit of weight and am currently in the smallest size clothes in my wardrobe, so in the next month I will need to buy new almost everything, however I've got more weight to go so I'm plannng a small shop including:
Jeans (barrel shape), t-shirts, 2x work trousers (any ideas for these gratefully received, I like wide leg or cigarette pants), trainers (Adidas gazelle).

Puddleclucks · 11/02/2025 20:24

Well thanks for the replies and questions.

I'm an autumn so can pull off camel, and as an absolute freezer I could definitely wear the coat for a few months yet.

My youngest DC has started full time school and I'm in a new job where I don't have to wear a uniform, so feel like I'm entering a new phase, I've been in skinnies and trainers at the park, or scrubs at work, for so many years I don't know where to start!

I'm thinking of basing the whole lot on camels and beige, then having a few accent colours, I've had my colours done and I'm armed with a load of swatch samples 😁

What id really love is a personal shopper and a huge budget, but I have neither at the moment 😕

I’m buying new as a new size & shape after DC3. I’ve bought wide leg trousers & jeans, lots of layers (cropped bomber jackets which can be worn inside, chunky cardigans, slim cashmere jumpers). Next on my list are The Perfect T-shirts in black & white.

MontyDonsfrontlawn · 11/02/2025 21:42

If you are considering the previous suggestion of a trench coat this one is also good. It’s quite warm as well for a trench.

Nothing floral 😂

I am SO ready to pack away winter clothes! It feels like spring is a long way off here in Scotland, so my shopping has been quite unhinged. It’s my birthday this month so I have had a bit of extra cash, plus no council tax, and I am wishful thinking a bit here. Since Christmas I have bought:

Cream barrel leg trousers from Cos - I really wanted these last year and they sold out, so I bought them even though I know I won’t wear them for a while

A bright green cardi from M&S. the colour is called “grass” and it’s so cheerful!

A black v-neck merino wool cardi from &OS. This will be a useful staple for work with black jeans and a white or stripy t-shirt

Leopard print wide leg trousers in the Damson Madder sale

Barrel leg leopard print jeans from Abercrombie. What can I say? I love leopard print. I have worn these quite a few times already and think they will work all year round

I have ordered and am waiting on a mustard Cos sweatshirt, and dark denim barrel leg trousers, also from Cos.

I would like another pair of Adidas Spezial trainers, either the mustard/pink, or the pink/green I think.

Britpopbaby · 12/02/2025 06:36

I’d like to buy another pair of Boden wide leg jeans as I have been wearing them constantly for the past two years and would like another pair of long leg rather than cropped ones. Other than that I’d like to buy nothing.

I have a wedding in April so need something for that. I have plenty of blouses/tops so I am thinking a pair of white trousers. Either culottes or full length. I will then get shoes and a clutch from Vinted I think which will be sold again after. Ideally I want the trousers to work with going on holiday in the summer too hence culottes as I think they’d work with my wedge sandals.

I also want some new trainers but not white. So many lovely colours around. Something bright I think. Missed out on some lovely samba equivalents in Marks and Spencer that were a lovely shade of blue. All sold out now.

I can’t wear brown or camel. Disappointing as there are some lovely suede jackets out just now. I have also seen a decent pair of wide leg jeans in marks and Spencer that I want to try.

Beyond that I am focusing on my Summer holiday. First hot climate since 2018 and I have nothing. We are going as a large family unit. 17 of us with days out, evening meals etc so need a few decent outfits for that.

Edited to say I didn’t make the clicky links to M&S. it must be. mn automatic thing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/02/2025 07:09

Re hot holiday - I want to try to get a couple of very thin cotton dresses, ideally with short sleeves rather than sleeveless. Ridiculously hard to find!

Munsnet have obviously made a deal with Marks and Spencer that any mentions in posts are automatically converted into hyperlinks
Even if I said: M&S clothes are rubbish…
Is it just me or is that a bit creepy, turning people’s posts into ads?

Pickandmixusername · 12/02/2025 07:49

They've got to make money somehow, so it doesn't massively bother me. What does bother me is them making money from our posts and then refusing to moderate properly. Relying on volunteers to mpderate after hours (free for mumsnet), let clearly fake, inflammatory posts stay up for days to get plenty of traffic, even when they are clearly upsetting people. The argument is always "well reddit / instagram / whatever does it too", but those platforms aren't anything to aspire to in terms of keeping users safe and tbf to them, at least they let you block other users which you need to do when they are nasty bastards. Mumsnet has resisted making that possible on here although people have asked for it for many years. Or "we can't possibly know if someone is genuine or not". Why not? I usually can about three days before the thread gets deleted but obviously not allowed to say it on the thread. Pay your mods and maybe they'd be better equipped to spot and investigate things.

Anyway, yes, m&s and also john lewis i think turn into links if mentioned. Not sure if other ones do too

Rina66 · 12/02/2025 07:58

I'd really like a suede jacket in tan or suede to wear with my brown suede loafers from M & S.
I've bought some cream looser fit jeans from H & M which I'm really impressed with especially for £22.99
I saw a pink boho style broderie anglais pop over blouse in Next (so much better in real life) that I thought I'd wear now with jeans and with shorts in the summer.
Lastly, some longer length sweatshirts with a zip neck collar that stands up (crew necks just don't suit me) to wear with leggings and trainers once I can get my ankles out!

Not creepy but a bit annoying because it's a general link. It's not just M & S. I think that Jonh Lewis links too.

TheOGCCL · 12/02/2025 09:35

I find the generic linking very weird as there can’t be many people who don’t know about the existence of these retailers. Marks in particular are notorious for having a website it’s difficult to find things on (if a poster mentions something but doesn’t link).

I’m trying to curtail my shopping habits but hope to get some new jeans, trainers and a shirt. I don’t want to buy anything randomly, has to be planned.

Floisme · 12/02/2025 09:44

I'd like to have a shoes / boots 'reset' because I've been wearing pretty much the same for years, if not decades, and I'm bored. But I said exactly the same a year ago and never found anything I liked. I'm fussy.

Or failing that, a jacket, which I've absolutely no need for.
