Here’s a new thread!

@OftenOrange i don’t think it looks too big from your photo, but I tend to like my clothes oversized rather than neat. I think it looks very promising from that pic.

This thread is so enabling. The chat of the pleated skirt made me go back to look at it online again, where it was sold out in my size in navy. But I was passing the Edinburgh store this morning, and popped in and tried it again. To get it out of my mind, you know? And guess what…it came home with me instead. That was after buying not one but two jackets (one sale but still) in another shop. I shall be cutting up my credit card shortly before I lose the run of myself.

IlovePond · 15/02/2025 16:15

Show us some pics @ScottishMouse
(Sadly, cutting up my cc[s] wouldn’t do any good as I know the numbers off by heart 🙀)

I will later or tomorrow @IlovePond. I’m stuck on the sofa in my pjs now, with a cosy purring cat on my lap!

IlovePond · 15/02/2025 16:25

Sounds cozy @ScottishMouse - I have a sulky dog taking up most of my sofa, with me perched on the end 😹

@ScottishMouse Love that you were enabled , it was meant to be 👗

faustina · 15/02/2025 19:53

@OftenOrange I can't see the legs in the photo, but it looks great on you! The single pocket doesn't look weird either.

@ScottishMouse - so pleased you found (two!) jackets - and a skirt. Yes to pics of everything!

ScottishMouse · 15/02/2025 20:34

@faustine, I know, two jackets! That makes up for the quilted one not working. Hopefully all my jacket wardrobe gaps are now full. I think the only thing my wardrobe has gaps for are good plain t-shirts (so hard to find) and sandals (also hard when you have tricky feet). Otherwise I should not be buying anything else for quite some time (erm, watch me when the next Toast drop comes though! 🙄)

Stravaig · 15/02/2025 22:09

I probably shouldn't mention the Spring collection emails from Plümo, Brora, Sideline, and Kate Barton :)

@Stravaig you're wicked 🤣

@OftenOrange Lovely waist gathering! I like roomy in a work jumpsuit, for winter underlayers, and plentiful pockets. For outings I prefer the single back pocket. Can you try the smaller size too and compare? Or you could double-check fit with some more photos, wearing the likely shoes, bag, etc and stand as if holding a glass at an event, rather than hands on hips?

As promised. Photos of the pleat skirt.

I am still swithering a bit if I am honest. It goes with a lot but it is a lot of heavy fabric, and feels weighty to wear, almost like I am in fancy dress or something. I’m just not sure if I will reach for it as much as it deserves, and I think it will feel too heavy in summer, even in Scotland, not because I would be too warm but carrying the weight around would be too much. Hmmmmm…..

Also photos of the two non-Toast jackets I bought, for anyone interested.
The first jacket is cord, Engineered Garments, and was on sale, I would never have looked at it at the full price. The second is Danton, slightly padded, I love it from the front, kind of wish it didn’t have the back darts as they remind me too much of an 80s bomber jacket I had in my youth, but I am not looking at the back. I needed something for over dresses and they will both be good for that.

The skirt would also be terrible for travelling as it would need to be ironed/steamed, and there is so much weighty fabric it would take up half a suitcase. Not that I travel very much, but…

mizu · 16/02/2025 16:41

@ScottishMouse re: skirt BUT it looks so good 😊 that whole outfit is right up my street.

ScottishMouse · 16/02/2025 16:53

@mizu my doorbell rang right after taking that photo and I answered it in the skirt. It was a uni student coming to pick up something my dd was selling, and she said “I love your skirt”!! A young person compliment!! But I nearly tripped on the skirt coming back upstairs!

IlovePond · 16/02/2025 17:03

I love that jumper and skirt combo @ScottishMouse

faustina · 16/02/2025 17:08

@ScottishMouse you'll learn to lift it slightly when using stairs - that skirt looks brilliant- I hope you keep it! I like the jackets too - I see what you mean about the bomber jacket effect on the back but it's very slight and looks great!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 16/02/2025 17:13

I’ve got a long heavy ish Toast skirt from ages ago @ScottishMouse and I thought the same as you but once I started wearing it I didn’t notice the weight. I’ve been wearing it loads this winter with leggings and boots.

Popplebop · 16/02/2025 18:24

@ScottishMouse this is exactly how I wear my skirt! I had it on today with a white big collared blouse from a couple of years ago and was also complimented when out at lunch. (Also a young person 😆). I am used to the swish of the material now but I agree - I had to gather it up like an evening gown when I was walking up some stairs otherwise it could have all gone horribly wrong…

ToastCosILoveIt · 16/02/2025 18:30

@ScottishMouse , I am wearing that very skirt, the green colourway, today. I have worn it with a thick teeshirt and the Toast ribbed mohair blend cropped cardigan and it feels fab. I actually packed this skirt into a suitcase and bought it to Ireland and back (ended up not wearing it there) and then bought it down to Cornwall in a bag and have now worn it without a sniff of an iron anywhere near it so I do think it is fairly hardy in terms of being crease proof. Mind you, I have the navy one and have washed it so I will let you know how difficult the ironing is.

One of the reviews on the website suggests that it looks good with heels and a little jacket too and I bet it does. I think it is a really versatile skirt and I intend to wear the navy one into the office with a cropped Cos jacket and some pumps.

ToastCosILoveIt · 16/02/2025 18:31

but yes, I know what you and @Popplebop mean about being careful on the stairs with it as it is think and you could trip yourself up (or down) if you were rushing and not thinking.

Stravaig · 16/02/2025 19:38

The bib is going down well, a flurry of happy reviews!

ScottishMouse · 16/02/2025 20:24

I think you’ve all convinced me. Thank you!

I love this jumper @IlovePond. I’m so glad I gave it a second try and bought it. Does anyone else do that - try something and discard it, and then go back for another try at a much later point and it then becomes one of their favourite items?
