Apologies if this has been asked before (I'm sure it will have been) but what are Toast dresses like for size? I wear a 12 in other stores.

Poplinskirt · 28/05/2025 19:04

@MounjaroOnMyMind

That is the age old question with Toast!
It really depends on the style and is incredibly variable
I have everything from XS to large.

I tend to look at the garment measurements and compare to dresses I already have and actually measure things to try and gauge the correct size.
Many of us order 2 sizes and this has been a familiar grumble about Toast sizing

In other news
I've ordered nothing -from Toast

Have found lovely comfortable, LONG , robust, non bandy leg trousers elsewhere and there is absolutely nothing grabbing me at Toast.
I either like something but have 3 of the similar style already or it's all sleeveless
Dresses I'm looking at you!
I counted 40 odd sleeveless dresses !
I'm not ordering as I know they will show my bra plus the colours are not me
Ho hum

ScottishMouse · 28/05/2025 19:22

Feels weird to say, but I am not at all bothered at the thought of an upcoming sale. Unless there’s some nightwear or homeware in it, there is nothing I am after. I love my blue pleat skirt that I bought a few weeks ago, but there is nothing at all else of interest.
I have (fortuitously, not through any great planning on my part) managed to fill most of my wardrobe gaps over the last few months elsewhere, and there is very little I need. I have sold on a few things that I haven’t been wearing, and noticed that they were mostly things with pattern or brighter colours, and my wardrobe is now pretty minimal, with about 85% being black/white/navy/grey/breton stripes, and just a few pops of other colours - the blue skirt, a rusty orange skirt from another brand, and the Toast rusty orange British wool sweater from winter are my faves. That’s not for everyone, but for me it has been so much easier to mix and match, and getting dressed in the morning has been so much easier and more enjoyable (the lovely weather recently did help though). Feeling quite pleased with my wardrobe for the first time in ages.

faustina · 28/05/2025 19:49

I've whittled everything down too @ScottishMouse - it's all very neutral so long as you count tobacco as neutral which I do - everything else is black and navy. It makes things really easy doesn't it?

Still waiting for the linen shirt (navy) to arrive - hopefully tomorrow. I had to get it sent from a shop in the end as it wasn't being restocked. I don't think there's anything else I need now, except the beautiful vita vero washing basket which is sold out, and perhaps some of the little terracotta pots which I quite like the look of.

@MounjaroOnMyMind - hope you find something you like. Read the reviews -they can be quite useful as well as the actual measurements, but you really need to try it on. Good luck!

ScottishMouse · 28/05/2025 20:20

I like those terracotta pots @faustina, they are cute.
Yes, it is so easy without all the colours and patterns. My winter wardrobe might need a little whittling to get it to as workable a collection, but I basically lived in two navy jumpers last winter so it’s obvious where my preferences lie. Maybe it just takes this many years of messing about with all sorts of clothes to figure out what really feels like you.

mizu · 28/05/2025 20:40

@MounjaroOnMyMind i live in TOAST dresses and have an array of sizes. As I usually buy from Vinted and I have been wearing TOAST for so long, I now sort of know a dress is going to fit by the style.

I always ask pit to pit and length if buying on Vinted or eBay.

A lot of TOAST dresses run large.

@ScottishMouseyour wardrobe sounds lovely, it’s a nice feeling to have the right things to pull out and put on. Not easy to do. I’m still working on mine, I definitely wear the same few items way more than others and they are either denim dresses, linen dresses or checked shirt dresses 😁

MounjaroOnMyMind · 29/05/2025 17:35

@ScottishMouse If the Toast rusty orange British wool sweater you mention is the one that was sold last winter, I'm so jealous. I yearned for it! I just couldn't justify the price as I was losing weight and guessed I wouldn't be in the same size the following year, but I'm determined to get one this autumn.

Snowyowl78 · 29/05/2025 18:49

Random question, does anybody know if other colours exist in this jumper or shall I give up looking? It’s from a few years back, 2022 maybe.

Countmeout · 29/05/2025 20:29

Is it a Mira @Snowyowl78 ? Rolled at the hem and neck? If so I have Pumpkin, a rusty colour that I bought on eBay thinking it was pumpkin and I also have a mustard colour one.

Stoic123 · 29/05/2025 21:48

@Snowyowl78 - as @Countmeout says, that's the Mira. I wore that exact jumper (in Jade) this morning before it warmed up. Love it so much.

I also have it in Truffle (lovely rich brown). I also bought the Papaya at the time (order history Jan 2021) but returned as colour didn't suit.

Stoic123 · 29/05/2025 21:58

@Snowyowl78 - ahhh - made a mistake. I did order the Mira in Papaya - but the Jade (one you've got) and Truffle jumpers I think are actually Rae jumpers . Apologies.

Snowyowl78 · 29/05/2025 23:18

@Stoic123 @Countmeout ah Rae, brilliant thank you! I will definitely stalk the truffle one on the second hand sites. I’ve had the jade one for ages but for some reason hadn’t worn it much but have realised it’s the perfect shape for most of my trousers!

Snowyowl78 · 31/05/2025 10:57

@oddandelsewhere bit late to the party, but re. Beyond nine, I have the Mabel Trousers and the Esme tops. The trousers definately come up big- because they are inclusive to pregnant and non pregnant people. Works well for me as someone who has a very temperamental stomach! I wear a Small in the trousers and am around a 14 IRL. So I would definitely size down. They are also rather voluminous and wide so you might want to consider that too. I know they have now got a slightly less voluminous version but I have forgotten the name. In contrast I find the tops much smaller, and size up!

ToastCosILoveIt · 31/05/2025 11:50

I have the Beyond Nine Mabel trousers too in a black and ecru pencil stripe, very nice, as @Snowyowl78 says, baggy and come up big. I take a small as a size 12.

oddandelsewhere · 31/05/2025 16:44

Thank you for all the beyond 9 information. In the end I decided to get something I could try first, so drove all the way to Llandeilo and bought the wide leg linen and cotton anthracite trousers. Not exciting and somewhat baggy in a medium, but I really needed a pair of dark trousers and they are comfortable. I wore them the other day, and then again today, and constantly had the feeling that the zip isn't central on the front. On examining them closely the pleats aren't placed symmetrically. The first pleat from the middle on the right is much nearer the centre than the first pleat on the left. The ones in the picture on the website are exactly the same, so I won't be able to exchange them. I may get some beyond 9 ones now.
It seems ridiculous that trousers at nearly £200 should be so badly made.

OftenOrange · 31/05/2025 19:36

Has anyone bought the bright checked cotton skirt in the same check and colour as the Mul Mul shirt ?
I eventually bought it and it’s beautiful , but I still haven’t worn it because I don’t like it with any of my ( many) Toast t shirts . The only passable pairing to my eye is the boy t in navy .
I think it will be a return which is a real shame as I love the idea of it , and am really surprised as I’d assumed it would look great with so many tops.

OftenOrange · 31/05/2025 19:43

@ScottishMouse That is such a clever way to curate your wardrobe and I intend to follow your example!
I now think I look best in streamlined ,low key in a Japanese way , dark simple clothing . All the lovely patterned Toast stuff isn’t doing me any favours .
The Sale is such a lure but my best buys have been full price.
My favourite kit at present is the blackish barrel leg Boilersuit worn with an ancient pair of Arche ballet flats . Also the chambray flared shirt I got on Reworn.
I love that French blue skirt , I think it’s sold out though…..

ScottishMouse · 31/05/2025 20:11

@OftenOrange it wasn't really intentional, I just found that over the last while I was reaching less and less for patterns or certain colours. I similarly feel happier in a Japanese style aesthetic in neutral colours, which is something Toast can do well if you can look past all the colours and patterns. There are often Toast pieces that would love in a neutral colour but only come in brighter more unusual colours, and too many of those makes my wardrobe feel cluttered and hard to match.
Speaking of Japanese aesthetic, are there any Glaswegians here? I see that InHoos have introduced a clothing range including some lovely looking Japanese brands. I must find a reason to go through to Glasgow for a look soon.

IlovePond · 01/06/2025 10:23

@oddandelsewhere - that’s annoying about your trousers. It might be worth complaining to Toast CS with pictures as they may well agree to refund you. If the website ones have the same problem, it’s probably an issue with the design/pattern and they shouldn’t get away with it!

On a different note: It was warm enough for me to wear my orange bargain crinkle cotton sundress yesterday, (I also have it in Olive). Should it reappear in the next sale, I heartily recommend it.

ScottishMouse · 01/06/2025 10:35

@oddandelsewhere I rarely buy fixed waist trousers from Toast (or anywhere really), but the few times I have tried some on, I have noticed that the fly never seems central to me. I always assumed it was just me, and I am a weird asymmetrical shape, but perhaps not.
I would definitely complain, they are far too expensive to have to put up with that.

oddandelsewhere · 01/06/2025 11:16

@IlovePond @ScottishMouse I'm slightly encouraged by you saying I should bring it up with customer services, however I was silly enough to buy them (Stygian gloom in the Llandeilo changing rooms) I haven't bought Toast trousers before this season because OSKA ones are just a much better fit for me. I think quite a few of the Toast styles actually have the same pleat problem, and I suppose if it doesn't bother people then it's fine. However it bothers me A LOT! I'll have to avoid the trousers in future I think.
Apart from it being a bit dark I really like the Llandeilo shop. Except I phoned before I went this time to see if they had what I wanted which they did but they would only keep it for me for an hour or so. Given that they are literally at the back of beyond ( and that's coming from me who lives very rurally) I think it would be helpful if they could keep things a little longer. The Harrogate shop will happily hold things for a day or two.

Hi, @OftenOrange , I have that skirt and have worn it with various colour Toast tee shirts including the Alda tee in papaya, a pumpkin coloured tee, a navy one and the parchment coloured one as well as the boat neck tee in navy. I also have a couple of cropped or boxy blouses/shirts I will wear it with, including this lovely one from Ma & Lin https://www.ma-lin.uk/collections/blouses-tops/products/frances-linen-cropped-blouse-jade

I also bought the Mul Mul top and will wear them as a pair, I think they would be great for travelling. I love the colours in them and I think that lends the skirt to lots of colours on top. I see the skirt has sold out online and the top is only left in the larger size.

I'll be watching with interest when you're Japanese jeans arrive @ToastCosILoveIt I'm so tempted by them.

ToastCosILoveIt · 01/06/2025 12:41

They have arrived @VivienneDelacroix and I am wearing them as I type. They came on Wednesday and I wore them out that night, Friday night and am now back in the jeans paired with a red button through cropped short sleeve cotton jumper from Jigsaw. They are the perfect fit for my size 12, 5ft 5 body, very flattering, look really cool, nice dark denim, not quite inky. I love them and would snap them up in black if they made them.
